I thought this would be worth printing since in another thread, someone brought up the ol' Cleland mythology, largely created as the ongoing attempt to portray republicans as mean spirited. The basic dem mantra was you can never criticize cleland the politician, because he lost limbs in vietnam. Cleland lost his seat becuse he stopped representing the people in his district.

Four days after the Khe Sanh action, he got out of a helicopter with two U.S. enlisted men. The area was not hot, that is, there was no enemy action there at the time. One of the enlisted men accidentally dropped a grenade as he got off the chopper. The pin somehow came out during the dropping. That enables the handle to pop off which starts the fuse burning. Cleland saw it lying on the ground, was unaware that the pin was out, and bent down to police it up. It exploded as he reached for it. He lost both legs below the knee and his right forearm. but rather than recognize the actual circumstance our resident swiftboater parrots what that "icon" of truth, ann coulter, has to fabricate about it (while defending dubya's (*)(*)(*)(*) poor service record): Quote:
