Default Top 5

Best
5. Monroe- helped end American colonization
4. Madison- wrote the constitution as well as an overall good president
3. Reagan- showed us the power of peace by defeating the Soviet Union without a bullet fired
2. Jefferson- helped guide this country the right direction until the Federalists messed it up again
1. Washington- led a brand new country into peace and prosperity and greatly contributed to the success of one of the greatest social experiments in the history of the world, a government based on liberty and freedom.

Worst
5. Johnston- was just an all-around idiot
4. George W. Bush- the government was never bigger than under his administration
3 FDR- almost lost us the war by focusing our efforts on Germany instead of Japan, which was the country that actually attacked us. He also pushed the country more towards socialism than any other president
2- Jimmy Carter- too many things to list http://www.papillonsartpalace.com/jimmycarter.htm
1. Lincoln- the greatest tyrant this country has ever seen

True! So few people get this. I discussed this in more detail on another thread. They see him as "saving the union" but he set the precedent for the usurpations of other statist Presidents like Wilson and FDR. He issued greenbacks as legal tender and introduced the income tax. Both were struck down by the Supreme Court after the war, but the statists never gave up their fight to get them back.

Why does is this same thread repeated?

The notion that Abraham Lincoln fits anywhere but in the best category is preposterous, and few historians would disagree.

He created the income tax because the war had to be paid for some way or another.

The Soviet Union collapsed on its own inertia. It's naive to think Reagan Himself defeated Soviet Russia. I mean come on... here's a nation which represses dissent, oppresses its own people, operates gulags, and then comes along Gorbachev who opens it up to democracy. At the same time, Russia's economy for decades has been geared towards heavy industry. Light industry is ignored, thus consumer goods are scarce, while the military has all it needs. You think any nation can keep that up forever without collapsing?

And then when democracy finally takes hold due to Gorbachev's open policies and de-Sovietization, Reagan takes all the credit.

Do you have any sources showing he focused the majority of war funds on Germany? I was under the impression we handled two fronts, and handled Japan rather well; after Midway, the Japanese weren't able to mount offensives, and were strictly on defense. If that's true, you can reassign (not saying FDR ever did) material and manpower to Britain in preparation for the invasion of France.

He pushed us towards socialism? When did FDR institute collectivization of production? Curious minds need to know. Sounds like you don't even know the basic definition of socialism.

Gorbachev wouldn't have done (*)(*)(*)(*) without Reagan opening his eyes.

What w/ Lincoln on the worst. I really the only huge mistake he made was suspending habeus corpus but thats just me.

My opinion

Best
5. Abraham Lincoln-Ended slavery and pulled back the rebelling states
4. Harry Truman-Ended WW2 and helped defeat global tyranny
3. Thomas Jefferson- James Monroe-made a doctrine that kept our country safe for generations
2. George Washington- ended American Revolution w/ a victory andstarted the country off on a good foot
1. Ronald Reagan- Ended Cold War and cleaned up situations with Libya and Iran

Worst
5. Woodrow Wilson-let nearly 1500 americans die and almost had us invaded before we finally joined
4.Lyndon Johnson-sucky president who let hundreds of thousands of soldiers die on a faulty attack plan
3.Franklin D. Roosevelt-introduced Social Security fraud, income tax, and focused war on Germany instead of the Japanese who attacked us
2.Bill Clinton-turned White House into a hooters, and did nothing on terrorism leading to 9/11
1.Jimmy Carter-Did not defend the Shah our primary ally in the Mid East, let OPEC control oil market, and "Gave" the Ayattollah hostages

Are you saying Gorbachev's policies on perestroika and glasnost were actually Reagan's ideas? That's certainly a first.

By the way, if you want to look intelligent, keep using profanity.
