Many political leaders including Alexander Hamilton and James Madison were dissatisfied with the government under the Articles of Confederation. They claimed the government was inadequate for meeting the problems of the United States.
A number of prominent leaders also disagreed with the Articles of Confederation including George Wasington who said it was more shadow than substance. These testimonials and the low success rate of the Articles led to the Constitutional Convention. There they created the longest lasting both Rebpublic and Constituton. That is why I would call the Constitutional Convention a miracle...To be continued |

Yeah, I have to agree, miracle? You sound like Reagan when he said "This Constitution is such a perfect document it could only have been fashioned with the guiding hand of God."
Granted I am a "liberal," but the Constitution is in no way a miracle or anywhere near perfection. It was a good start, but there are many things that can be improved upon. To support my opinion I like to quote Jefferson: "[The purpose of a written constitution is] to bind up the several branches of government by certain laws, which, when they transgress, their acts shall become nullities; to render unnecessary an appeal to the people, or in other words a rebellion, on every infraction of their rights, on the peril that their acquiescence shall be construed into an intention to surrender those rights." --Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Virginia, 1782. |

The U.S. Constitution is "famous" (if you want to call it that) for "standing the test of time." Meaning, it's the only document in history, to be written years ago, and stay in it's original form, without being completely rewritten. Sure, we add amendments, but that's not anything "major." I'd call that a miracle.
If this doesn't make COMPLETE sense, then blame it on it being so late (early?) and having no sleep. I'd come up with a better answer if I was fully energized. But I think you get the point.
