Default US military intervention

In 1839, John L. Sullivan wrote a piece in his magazine "Democratic Review" that seems to have shaped American popular attitude to foriegn affairs since then;

Quote:
[O]ur national birth was the beginning of a new era of history, the formation and progress of an untried political system, which seperates us from the past and connects us with the future only, and so far as regards the entire development of the natural rights of man, in moral, political and national life, we may confidently assume that our country is destined to be the great nation of futurity...We are the nation of human progress, and who will, what can, set limits to our onward march? Providence is with us, and no unearthly power can...For this blessed mission to the nations of the world, which are shut out from the life-giving light of truth, has America been chosen; and her high example shall smite unto death the tyranny of kings, hierarchs, and oligarchs, and carry the glad tidings of peace and goodwill where myriads now endure an existence scarcely more enviable than that of the beasts of the field. Who then, can doubt that our country is destined to be the great nation of futurity?
In other words, America is the last best hope for humanity.

And boy, have you been busy at bringing the world American ideals;

I'm not so sure every one of those listed in the link you provided are US military interventions by the US on another country. Some listed are within US borders, and here's an example of one that wasn't an intervention by the US at all:
Quote:
YEMEN 2000 Naval Suicide bomb attack on USS Cole

I agree with Senax, many of those on the list aren't real interventions (Iran 1946, come on), but I think it's safe to say most of them are valid.
The importance of those interventions is misleading, it equates WWII with (real) police actions. It also doesn't list the countless political/economic interventions done by the US in countries within and outside its sphere of influence.

If one were to make a similar list for France, Britain or maybe even the USSR, in the same timeframe the list would grow to rather similar lengths.

This link is fluff and a waste of time as support for a negative stance on american activity. For example does it mention WHY we invaded Panama? How about 1) Noriega was a known drug trafficker, and 2) He declared a state of war on the US. A statement of activity is nothing in and of itself. It is neither negative or positive.

U.S. military spending ($343 billion in the year 2000) is 69 percent greater than that of the next five highest nations combined.
This is said to make the U.S. look like we are what? We are the richest nation in history and we have most of the highest technology and war making equipment in the world. Our "stuff" costs ALOT, and that is why the figure is so large. In other words, so what.

I know you love to bash America mouse....

But even you would have to admit that the continent of North America that the US presides over is possibly the "breadbasket" of the world.

America possesses vast natural resources and large quantities of highly arable land. IF America so choose, she could feed, clothe, and house(provided construction materials) the whole world.

Of course that would be a perfect world devoid of farm subsidies and democrat/republican/independant greed. In other words..

Fantasyland.

single most powerful/able defiantly. but it wouldn't call it a rich country. wealth per person certianly isn't the highest. and i wouldn't call a person with a lot of crediti cards rich, i'd say they have power and credit, but i'd rathe thrust the man with a pot of gold rather than a dozen credit cards.

america has a lot of buying 'power' and other countrys don't mind loaning the US money, but lets not confuse it with rich.
