Default US respect for human rights

Where are the neo-con shock over human rights in foreign leaders when the people commiting them are friends of ours?

Quote:
With Aliyev sitting in an armchair next to him, Bush held out Azerbaijan as "a modern Muslim country that is able to provide for its citizens, that understands that democracy is the wave of the future."
Quote:
Aliyev replaced his father, Heydar A. Aliyev, in October 2003, in an election that also drew sharp criticism from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which saw evidence of ballot-stuffing and a falsified vote count.
Quote:
But, it said, "the government's human rights record remained poor, and it continued to commit numerous abuses."
Quote:
The report cites "torture and beating of persons in custody, leading to four deaths," as well as arbitrary arrest and detention, particularly of political opponents, harsh prison conditions and corruption in the judiciary.
Quote:
President Bush praised Azerbaijan's president Friday despite human rights problems documented by the State Department, and said the country had a "very important role to play" in meeting global energy needs.
Quote:
Bush expressed his appreciation to Aliyev several times, thanking him for support in the war in Iraq and for his help in achieving "what we all want, which is energy security."

lol we will hear several times today why human rights violations and a need to bring democracy to Iraq justified the war there. Just as long as the country in question was not a friend of ours, in which case somehow that was not important at all.

Default What would you have him do...

...start another war?

Make up your mind, either we're in there face or we're not. Leading by example is sometimes a better solution, but I know how you war mongers are.

Default My answer

is that we should be consistant. Dont pretend to support human rights, when in fact that is simply a cover for US security issues.

Default over-simplification

I know its an over-simplification but much of the world now views the US as the wolf in sheep's clothing.

Or worse - The Beast, imagining itself Saviour, who instead of Rapture brings pestilence, Apocalypse....

Noesti supports terrorists and despots who murder people.
IOW he has nothing worth reading to say about human rights.

He wants to abandon millions to terorists and has the gall to post this crap...what a joke.

There has not been one single thing he has posted on where he has not bashed the US and defended the actions of whomever. Not one.

Yes, so if countries follow the Bush example they can:

- Arrest citizens without charges
- secretly detain people
- secretly abduct people and take them to be tortured
- spy on their citizens without warrents
- start wars based upon knowingly dubious claims

But I do agree that we should lead by example. I just wonder why you would think so since this administrations examples are more like China or the old USSR.

I so look forward to you running for president because you have all the answers. Like I said, I really look forward to you lefty simpletons to run the show, being everything is so black and white to you. The major difference will be the partisan hatred will dissipate.
