Default Forget about tortore in Cuba it's happening to us now.

This is very graphic but the whole thing was recorded and is online here:

Police torture in Knoxville TN
When Tennessee law enforcement officials showed up at the home of Lester Siler, who they suspected of drug use, they asked Lester's wife and son to leave. They didn't know that Lester's wife had turned on a tape recorder in the kitchen.

When Lester exercised his constitutional right not to sign a consent to search his house, these officers spent the next two hours torturing him. They beat him with bats and guns, held loaded guns to his head, threatened to shoot him, dunked his head in the toilet, burned him with lighters, attached his testicles to a battery charger, threatened to cut off his fingers, and threatened to "go get" his wife and take his child away from him. Then they arrested him for "evading arrest"."

Default Awful

While this is awful, I don't think it is official US policy. It is against the law and hopefully these officers spend a long time in Jail. And hopefully there is a large investigation to see if this was "common" in that police department.

But I think having the "official" US policy that this administration has adopted, that includes "stress positions" and "waterboarding" and other phrases to gloss over using excruitiating pain and near executions is worse.

Hopefully these cops will face justice, our CIA torturers won't.

Default old story

http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story...4&provider=top

Quote:
....The judge took this all into consideration, but
David Webber was sentenced to 57 months in jail; Samuel Franklin and Shayne Green received sentences of four and a-half years each, while William Carroll will spend four years and three months behind bars.

That is too much time, according to family members.

"I can't describe it, it seems unfair, he did wrong, but it just don't seem right," said Shayne Green's brother, Gary Green.

But Lester Siler's family says they are satisfied.

"Mr. Siler and his family respect the judgment that was handed down by the court today, and they look forward to moving on with their lives," said Siler's attorney, Kristie Anderson.
Apparently, they were sentenced last summer.

They must have held the tape as evidence and just released it. Probably for the best since something like that would have inflamed a lot of people. Best they are already tried and locked up before the tape hit the public.

That tape should be played to all cops just to let them know that kind of stuff won't be tolerated. Although I don't have much pity for drug dealers, bad cops are just as bad. I wonder why something like this didn't get picked up by the main stream media? It would be nice of them to let the average peon know there are a few cops that might torture you.

This is exactly why we need oversight, and checks and balances, and all those wonderful things the Republicans seem to have forgotten about lately.

Heck, I don't know if those cops were Reps or Dems or neither, but I do know that local police have been given a whole lot of freedom lately, and you can't do that job for very long (and be constantly immersed into the dark side of life) without developing some hardness.

I've known cops here in LA, who've completely lost it. They started out as good people trying to make a difference, and ended up as bad people making the wrong kind of difference. And justifying their evil and corrupt actions in the name of "enforcement".

Freedom requires constant vigilance, and the whole idea of oversight and checks-and-balances is to prevent the development of the power structures that allow these evil regimes to be created and to flourish. And ultimately, that's why we have "government", isn't it? Laissez-faire politics that encourages "independent initiative" will only help for so long, and then it becomes very dangerous without the proper oversight.

That may be ideologically offensive to some people, but it's a harsh reality that has to be dealt with, and taken seriously. History is too rich with examples not to take that concept very very seriously. IMO.

Pretty clear this type of thing is not tolerated. The 12thman already showed that its an old story and that they where charged and sent to prison.

..........I have no idea wtf Republicans have to do with anything here.
