Default Be afraid. Be very afraid.

The US is under attack!

Quote:
Rear Adm Harris said he did not believe the men had killed themselves out of despair.

"They are smart. They are creative, they are committed," he said.

"They have no regard for life, either ours or their own. I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetrical warfare waged against us."
Thus spoke the overwhelmingly compassionate Rear Admiral Harris who had presided over these men`s continued illegal incarceration.

What a joke.

Default ?

Fine with me. At least they didn't take others out with them. And that's a good thing.

Default RE

It will be a good thing when America is ruled by moral people with basic human compasion again. Phenomena like McCarthyisim or the Klan always chear me because I remember that periods of moral darkness in the US are temporary.

In Iraqi prisons it turned out that many of the people we held were innocent, according to the Pentagon, of anything. We never realized this because, as at gitmo, we never gave them trials. So we will end up the moral leapers in this case as in all to many in this administration.

In the end the end does not justify the means.

Default a publicity stunt!

"Three suicides at the US's Guantanamo prison camp have been described as a publicity stunt by a senior US official.

The deaths at the weekend were the first at the prison since the United States began holding terrorism suspects there in 2002.

Colleen Graffy, US deputy assistant secretary of state for public diplomacy, told the BBC World Service the suicides were a "good PR move to draw attention". New Zealand Herald

Are they not insane, to go to such lengths....just to embarrass the Bush administration! (no no no, it had nothing whatever to do with being shackled and beaten for years, with no prospect of ever having access to due process or a fair trial, brutal years without hope, full of fear and intimidation and threats...only a fool would consider that such conditions might conceivably lead one towards a consideration of suicide).

If you decide to kill yourself out of simple despair, then you don't coordinate the event with 2 of your buddies - you just do it. No, the desired outcome was this...

Default 23 attempts

Why not co-ordinate their attack on Bush with all these? Well, none of them were really going anywhere with their lives anyway...they might as well indulge in a little breath-stopping PR, just to pass etenity...

Default good riddance to bad rubbish

it was a stunt as attempted in the past. If they do kill themselves off it will certainly save money on trials. Meanwhile Bush stated he is waiitng for a ruling as to whether they can be given military trials and if so he will proceed immediately. Maybe we should ask for contributions to the expenses by various countries and individuals?

Default A final irony?

Well, final for Mr. Al-Utaybi anyway.

Meanwhile, a US lawyer has said that one of three who killed themselves was due to be freed but did not know it.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5073634.stm

So let me get this straight.

This man was such a hardened terrorist, such a threat to the West, such a head-chopping, plane-bombing Islamic pyscho `baddest of the bad` (thank you, Donald)

That he was about to be released without charge

Could that mean he`s not guilty of plotting to destroy America? I wonder how many `waterboarding` sessions it took to discover that he wasn`t a such a threat.

Still OK? Saved a few bucks, huh? Still good? Not even the tiniest qualm?
