While the UNO adopts a resolution, which unequivocally condemns glorification of the Nazi movement and former members of the Waffen SS, EU High Commissar for general foreign policy and security policy, Xavier Solana, decides to nominate former Estonian Ambassador to Germany, Dr. Riina Ruth Kionka to the post of Representative of the EU on Human Rights!
Maybe, he is out of the fact that she is a daughter of a former Estonian legionary Waffen SS, who has not turned his Nazi coat and bought up his daughter in the traditions of fascist ideology, too. I concede that Mrs. R. Kionka was successful in screening her Nazis principles of life and keeping her European colleagues in the dark about the war past of her father.
But those, who have closer links with her, know that her recent vacation of the position of Estonian Ambassador to Germany has been connected with her close contacts with representatives of some neo-Nazi groups and even her involvement in preparation of their actions in Germany! The scandal was blanketed by present German authorities. And what next?
Mr. Solana tries to create a base for a new and juicier scandal! But his hasty and dangerous decision will give rise to a political row not at the level of one European country, but at the level of the whole EU! So I consider it should be reevaluated as soon as possible. Besides of it we should remember that it would be very careless for Europe to promote persons from the country where human rights are violated (45% of Estonians are not citizens of this country) at the state level!
