It may sound low but I’ve heard it so. It develops that our jurisconsult M. Saakashvili has decided to have recourse to his Western colleagues, calling some experienced lawyers from Europe and the USA.
Certainly he is ready to pay them retainers from our state budget. And I think their fees will be vastly superior to their payment for work at home, because they ought to focus on finding clear legal mechanisms for efficient supporting his regime now and for guaranteeing his victory during early presidential elections in January.
And I am sure these rumors are reasonable. There is no secret that more than once our President has needed legal support of his Western sponsors. For example, in 2005-2006 groups of US lawyers constantly arrived to Georgia for assisting our local authorities (with their “weak theoretical training and low efficiency”, as Western experts consider) in creating legal basis for their initiatives to resolve the conflict in South Ossetia. As far as I know, in spite of having met failure they’ve received fees, amounting to 550 thousand US dollars.
And now surely our president won’t begrudge the cost of their attempts of finding a fair cause for “legitimate” excluding his main contenders from participation in forthcoming elections either.
