I'd be upset if this was in the US. But the Nazi's lost that war, and I'm pretty sure the homeschooling laws come out of that, when the article talks about "parallel societies" I'm pretty sure that's what it means.
I do feel sorry for people who aren't neonazis that get caught up in it though. But is it that hard to move about in the EU? Or even from Germany to the US? |

I strongly disagree. I very much do not believe that the government should have the power to force children to go to school. I believe in home-schooling and I think it's a great idea for families that can manage it, as long as someone does get around to teaching the kids the necessary skills and knowledge. I do think that parents have a responsibility to make sure that their kids can read, unless there's some impairment issue. But you have to leave it up to parents to figure out how to accomplish that. I don't really think there should be a penalty for failure to meet this responsibility, however real it might be. Life will impose a penalty that the government can't.
Also, purely on a practical level, parents are in a position to know how to educate their children, and what's important for their children to know, much better than that of the government. The government should offer itself as a resource in this regard, helping parents, not policing them. And accepting what the government deems to be help should not be mandatory. Your characterization of liberals is based on your own slander of liberals. It's not accurate. |

He's exaggerating (for the US), but I think what he's getting at is that at this point the schools are pretty well liberal unless they're private. So a lot of home schoolers are of the conservative set and liberals might not like that and try to interfere.
For example Billies kids might, in addition to the three R's, learn "To shot cocksuckers that try to take their guns". Probably some other stuff. So if that got out I could see some liberals at least wanting to intervene somehow. |

What are we, fascists? Why would we ...?
Oh, wait. I forgot. Loads of people think we are fascists. Well, we're not. Also, we're really not in charge of public schools in America. At least, not the public schools I went to. They were pretty much bastions of church and white history lessons. |
