For one of those rare moments of my life, I agree with Time 100%. This cyclone could escalate to the hundreds of thousands dead after the humanitarian crisis in Somalia in the early 90s, and similarly, we need to response with UN military action. Obviously, Somalia was a failure because after a handful of casualties for a great cause, the American public and Bill Clinton got spooked out of the region. Indeed, the fallout caused the World Trade Center bombings, but under a persistent, if not stubborn, President, I truly believe we can stay in Myanmar until Than Shwe is removed and aid delivered.

My fellow Conservatives, this will require us to swallow our pride and seek European help. We're obviously already stretched to the limit militarily enough to have had snail-paced response to Katrina, and I believe that pleading for Europe's hand in this would do wonder for our credibility across the pond. It really is imperative that we bring aid to the people of Myanmar, and the only way to do that might very well be with UN forces.

I don't know if it will happen, but to really prove that Cons mean to help to the world for just non-US interests, we have to help Myanmar.

Europe has no military worth mentioning. They can't even keep a minimum level of troops willing to fight in Afghanistan. They certainly aren't ready to take new missions on.

If they don't want our help, we should let them and their neighbors deal with it. I can see some air drops, which are mostly useless, but an invasion? Thats crazy. We have enough to deal with in iraq, iran, and syria, let alone all the other places we are fighting the islamomorons that doesn't make the press much. We have no vital security interest in Mynmar and therefore the expense, the risk, and the effort are simply not justifitied.

Let's see Europe take care of this without us. Invade and then we will even help by handing over the aide we have for those people. Of course, it will never happen. Europe simply doesn't have the power, let alone the will. They are completely helpless without the power of the USA. Meanwhile however, they are all to happy to criticize us for our military spending, while we are the primary funder by far of the UN, international aid, and bascially anything that ever needs doing.

Its really pathetic to see these weakling fools unwilling to fight for their own freedom so eager to criticize the greatest force for good in the history of the World, the USA.
