I personally think its great to sentence them to prison if they stay there!. The trouble is so many people are not being justally punished. In the papers the other day i read of someone who commited arson and was sentenced seven years yet i hear of a murder commited and he got five. This may be a slight over exaggeration but it happens. I feel that no one should be sentenced to death as that is no punishment to some criminals as they seem to not care. however i do feel prison is the best place, but murderers should get sentenced life not eight years then sent out on good behaviour as some will act. what i mean is one example is There was one man who was a canniable and was sentenced something like eight years then let out on good behaviour but once released commited yet another eleven attacks. I also feel that once in prison some people should be put in complete isolation as i feel everyone strives on attention and with none of this its a great punishment.
However im going a bit off topic. I dont agree with the death sentence i do feel its an escape and i feel prison is the best method if done correctly.

I don't agree at all with the death penalty/capital punishment. I think it's immoral - moreso even than torture - and I think it wastes money. If in life people have purpose, why can't people do useful work when they are convicted of a crime? Alas, we pay tax for convicts to sit and eat on death row for years until we pay for them to die. Meanwhile, little Johnny is starving on Monday morning; when he gets to school he can't wait for lunch...

On average it costs roughly $36,000/year to house an inmate. That is more than some people make in a year. To put it into perspective, it costs more to keep the criminal, that murdered someones parents; alive, than the victims made that year in salary. That to me is a gross injustice. Knowing that the families of victims have to pay, to keep the very person that committed the crime, alive, day after day. Where is the justice for the victims, knowing that the criminal will be living in a 6'X10' cell for the next 8-10 years. Also, during their 8 year sentence, they will not have to provide anything for themselves. Prisoners receive medical and dental care, where some of the victims couldn't afford to have medical or dental care.
I realize that the Capital Punishment system is certainly not a perfect system, but our legal system as a whole is still by far the best system on the planet.

Thou shall not kill is not the same as self defense or punishment. Killing a murderer is both of those. Just because they are in jail does not mean they can't kill again and in fact they often do. Some prefer life in prison because of the importance they have there versus the outside world. The only way I would support taking away the death penalty is if we housed them in a cage where they never got to do anything other than eat and drink bread, water, a piece of fruit and a vegatable three times a day. They were given no rec time and no tv. They only received their food and water after they spent 10 hours breaking rocks. Then I'd support doing away with the death penalty. The fact that it costs more is an excuse. Let's make the appeals process shorter and make it less expensive instead.
What I find ironic is that liberals feel a baby that's been in the womb for 8 months that hasn't hurt anyone can be cut into pieces with a saw yet find it immoral to put to death someone who raped and murdered children.

I am with you on this point. The Bible does not say "Thou shalt not kill." I find nothing immoral with killing a murderer.

Thinking on it. Killing a killer, you are just as bad. God invokes the punishment to his rules. He says "You murdered, you broke the fifth commandment, to Hell with your soul". It is not our place to break a commandment in responce to the breaking of a commandment. It is Gods place to punish those who break his commandments, not ours.
Plus even more, that is religous view, not really the view government should look for. The worst punishment possible is to let them rot in jail.

You know, I think people involved in these huge scandels, such as Enron, are the ones who are always ignored. If you rip off a seven eleven at gunpoint, you go to jail for how long? And yet, if a black man were able to pay his power bill, it probably wouldn't happen so often. I mean, they go off and kill themselves anyway, we might as well make a public example out of them! Granted, we would have to throw Bush in jail at the very least, as well as Clinton, and Reagan, and Bush's dad for all those savings and loan scandels, but hey. The system isn't perfect. You know?
Oh, and um. you guys act like God wrote the Bible or something, sheesh. ...that last part was a joke...kinda...what about judge not that ye not be judged or something like that? I don't know, the Bible drives me crazy. |

I think it would be worst to be imprisioned for the rest of my life then to be executed. Regardless, I would still be alive. I could better myself, write books, create many forms of art, do countless useful things while rotting in prision. It would be a life without rights, but it would still be life.
I'm all for the death penalty. Execution and life in prison are basically the same thing. The convict won't be allowed to learn from their mistakes if they are in prison for the rest of their life. Even if they do decide to become a decent person, it doesn't matter at that point. So whats the point of keeping someone alive to suffer? And why do convicts sit on death row for years at a time? Does it really take that much time and money to kill people? The Aztecs killed 200,000 people in one day. |
