Thats why public healthcare sucks whatever you choose to do with YOUR body becomes every body elses buisness!

Oh, I agree. Problem is, if we made smokers pay for their own medical treatment, they'd complain, and the vast majority would die from their illnesses because they wouldn't be able to afford to pay the medical costs.

Threatening smokers with paying their own medical bills will likely incite quite a few smokers to kick the habit.

I wouldn't suggest barring them from the public system i would just reserve public healthcare to the poor, the minority who genuinly can't afford the private system. For some reason the majority here flock to the system which is supposed to be for the poor. I would slash the care provided by the public system so it only covers the basics. Then the medium income earners who are using it would move to private systems. Competition would go up private healthcare costs would go down. Hospitals would be in a race to who can provide the most comfy booths and shiniest hallways! And most importantly alot of the burden of drinkers and smokers will be out of our pockets! woohoo!

I'd love it if the burden of drinkers and smokers were out of our pockets.

Private health insurance is not something everyone can afford, though. I'd like us on the public health thing to just not help smokers out.
Surely the Government can implement something like this - make smokers pay for their medical care. Threaten them with that and I bet they start throwing their cancer sticks away!

Sure they could. Our government does stuff like that all the time. Problem is i simple don't want them practising power like that! first smokers then drinkers then forum users!!!

Well, if the Government could make private health insurance more affordable, I'd be all for it. I'd take out PHI then, and everyone else can worry about the smokers!

Im sure they could all they would have to do is cut down taxes on industry that supplies health insurance aswell as those in the medicine industry. Create policy to cut it up and increase competition between them. Then simple reduce the public system and the private one will become far cheaper! Any thing Rudd can do buisness can do better!
