The Answer is:

NOTHING!

NOTHING has 7 letters.
NOTHING preceded God
NOTHING is greater than God.
NOTHING is more evil than the devil.
All poor people have NOTHING.
Wealthy people need NOTHING.
If you eat NOTHING, you will die.

Actually I think it was 17% of Stanford students were able to figure it out...but even more ironic is 80% of kindergartners asked answered correctly...

It's a good riddle though...

What two words starting with the same letter are synonyms but become antonyms when you remove the first letter?

No one got it? Don and doff are synonyms. On and off are antonyms.
