To become a permanent resident, you have to comply with the law - obtain visas, etc.

Generally (I say generally because, like most govt legislation, there are a number of exceptions, loopholes, etc) children of people living illegally in Australia, are not given automatic citizenship.

Of course but you need to understand that ppl b/c of circumstances have Visas run out. My mom coming to this country didn't know any English or how the system worked. She had no mode of transportation and since it was the 80s there was no internet so she could research for herself how to renew Visas. Also she was hosptalized 1 week before my birth so should couldn't leave the hospital anyways. I say if your Visa expires you should get a grace period of a year. I also believe regular officers should have information about whether ppl have expired Visas or no. They can detain them until ICE arrives.

Things happen, it doesn't mean you punish an unborn child because of it. An unborn child who excels in school, graduates college, and owns a business at 22. An unborn child that pay plenty to taxes and has the same rights as you.
