...but to reiterate (as I’m sure you saw on page one) this plan would be operational for all illegal immigrants regardless of race or ethnicity. We would just need to be clear when publicly speaking about it to only mention “Illegal Immigrants” and we’ll never need to reference “Illegal Mexicans” specifically.
Even if you do say only "Illegal Immigrants" the majority thinks of illegal Mexicans more than illegal Cubans or Chinese, or even Canadians. Including Hispanics themselves I think. I suppose it doesn't really matter though.

Just wanted to clarify a segment of my OP: the homeless. In an effort to reduce the need for a guest worker program, my initial post suggested:
Quote:
Using the Sheriff Joe Arpaio method, create tent-like minimum security jails for appropriate inmates, surrounding large agricultural areas. These centers could be used for low risk non-violent criminals, able-working homeless, new illegals that jump our double layered barb-wire fence, etc, etc, etc, etc.”
I would never want to place the able working homeless in the same agriculture grounds as the prisoners, but instead make it two separate institutions.

First, we would need to separate the homeless into: able-working and non-able working. Non-able workers are placed in mental hospitals, disabled living homes, rehabilitation, or jail/prisoner picking grounds if they turned homeless to dodge past legal action. The able-working homeless should have an opportunity for a home, a job, and additional living wages. There is a common industry that's given a description "A job that the average American won't do"...that's right: agriculture!

Acquire cheap housing in agricultural areas, provide a farm for them to work on, and earn their own money. It cleans up our streets, puts food in homeless’ mouths, gives them shelter, and contributes to a low wage American industry. Win-win-win.

They come here because their countries suck, our jobs pay better. Fine the employers.
You Guys should Be listening to him because He's Right. The only thing debatable about what you wrote is I believe it's the GOP that are for the Cheap Labor. The Democrats court them for political power under the blanket of 'equality'. It's absolutely true that the Democrats want their votes. They're not Americans, only a backward minority and they never will be just like the blacks. No debate. That's a fact.

Just to achieve some clarity...you’re saying “Righty” is right and we should be listening to him?

I agree with your descriptions, but what does this have to do with the proposal? Nothing like this is even being discussed here.

They'll never assimilate. They're going to become a permanent underclass just like the blacks. They're far too different and socially, culturally and academically backward to ever even hope to collectively assimilate into the mainstream white American society. The only immigrants that have assimilated and can assimilate are the Europeans. Truer word never spoken.

Hey hey...now they’re starting to get it:

LA Times, March 1 2007
Colorado to use inmates to fill migrant shortage
Quote:
DENVER — Ever since passing what its Legislature promoted as the nation's toughest laws against illegal immigration last summer, Colorado has struggled with a labor shortage as migrants fled the state. This week, officials announced a novel solution: Use convicts as farmworkers.
...
The Department of Corrections hopes to launch a pilot program this month — thought to be the first of its kind — that would contract with more than a dozen farms to provide inmates who will pick melons, onions and peppers.
...
Prisoners who are a low security risk may choose to work in the fields, earning 60 cents a day. They also are eligible for small bonuses.
...
Some of the state's 22,000 prisoners have agricultural experience. Convicts can participate in programs on prison grounds to break wild horses and grow crops. About 700 inmates work in other jobs outside prison, such as on fire crews.
...
In California, where growers also have complained about a lack of workers, inmates have not labored in private fields since the 1940s. Prisoners then were used as farmhands while laborers were fighting in World War II, said Terry Thornton, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections.
...
Krikorian, of the Center for Immigration Studies, said the Colorado prison experiment was "a sign that there are solutions other than importing foreign labor."
...
He said "ultimately they're going to have to improve the wages and working conditions" to attract legal workers, as well as to mechanize parts of their farming operations.

Just thought I’d post some numbers: The leading worry about removing illegal immigrant workers from our labor force would be the collapse of the agriculture industry.

Although this does not propose that all illegal workers in agriculture need to be replaced, but only that a large gap can be filled by helping the other troubled Americans already here. Obviously not every non-violent prisoner will be fit for this type of (closely monitored) work, nor would every homeless person or every welfare recipient be applicable, but a large portion of these troubled Americans could benefit from this sector in our economy.

Quote:
Based on estimates provided by the Pew Hispanic Center, there were approximately 12 million projected illegals as of March 2006. Of this 12 million, approximately 7.2 million unauthorized immigrants were employed, some 4.9% of the entire civilian labor force. In some industries, the percentage is much higher, such as 24% of all farm workers, 17% of all workers in the cleaning industry, 14% of all construction workers, and 12% of all employees in the food preparation industry.
Will the Increasing Illegal Immigrant Population Cause an Increase in Workers' Comp Premiums?
Only ~1.7 million illegals working in the Agriculture industry.

Quote:
On December 31, 2005 -- 2,193,798 prisoners were held in Federal or State prisons or in local jails -- an increase of 2.7% from yearend 2004, less than the average annual growth of 3.3% since yearend 1995.

US Department of Justice - Prison Statistics

There were 744,000 homeless people in the United States in 2005, according to the first national estimate in a decade.

The Impact of Welfare Reform
~1.89 million on Welfare

Default Hey Folks

My proposed theory on how to deal with illegal immigrants? Shoot em in the head. It always worked in South America.

Hmmmm...No. Let’s conserve this thread space to rational and mature suggestions. TIA.

In regards to the above numbers I quoted, the illegal immigrant workers in the agriculture industry are incorrect...and in fact...overstated. 24% of all farmer workers is irrelevant if you don’t have the total number of farmers that were surveyed (which that source did not). So I went searching for other sources:

Ripe crops languish in the fields
Quote:
”The number 1.25 million represents about 50 percent of the agricultural workforce,” Feinstein noted.
1.25 million illegal agricultural workers according to the reputable Diane Feinstein.

Some memes never die
Quote:
From the L.A. Times and Rice University’s Professor Donald Huddle: “Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare.”
Using cis.org statistics: 2% of 12 million is ~250,000 illegal agriculture workers.

Washington Times: Senate confronts immigration, April ‘05
Quote:
The Senate will vote tomorrow on the first major changes in immigration policy in a decade, including a measure legalizing up to 1 million illegal-immigrant agriculture workers and dramatically changing two of the nation's temporary-worker programs.
1 million illegal immigrant agriculture workers according to a Senate bill that would “legalize undocumented agriculture workers”.

NPR: Study Details Lives of Illegal Immigrants in U.S.
Quote:
More than 10 million illegal immigrants are thought to live in the United States. The overwhelming majority are Hispanic; most are from Mexico. A new report from the Pew Hispanic Center examines where and how these undocumented immigrants live and work.
...
Illegal immigrants can be found working in many sectors of the U.S. economy. About 3 percent work in agriculture; 33 percent have jobs in service industries; and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (16 percent) and in production, installation and repair (17 percent).
3% in agriculture of the 10 million noted is 300,000 illegal immigrant agriculture workers. From the Neo-Con organization of NPR.

So it ranges anywhere from 250,000-1.25million illegal immigrant agriculture workers. Even if you overestimated and claim that 2 million illegals are doing the spotlight job newly named “A job Americans won’t do: Agriculture” its still pathetic when you compare it to the 3,687,000 American Citizens who are either on welfare, are non-violent prisoners, and/or are homeless (which typically includes jobless).

That’s not to say that all of those 3,687,000 citizens who’re capable of work should be utilized in that specific sector. But to claim that if we don’t have a guest worker program, and constantly allow a serf class to flood our farms, that the industry will collapse and we’ll be paying $10 for a head of lettuce is absolutely ridiculous.

New interesting statistics I found while looking for correct ag-workers : illegal population percentage:

Guestworker Programs: A Threat to American Agriculture
Quote:
This is not to say there has been no growth in agricultural labor productivity. In fact, between 1960 and 1994, the quantity of farm output doubled, while farm employment shrank by 57 percent.
...
There is little doubt that fruit and vegetable production could survive, and thrive, without importing foreign workers, whether illegals or guestworkers. In fact, even during World War II, at a time when 16 million Americans were in uniform, there was no economic rationale for the importation of foreign workers. As William and Mary historian Cindy Hahamovitch has shown, the Bracero program was instituted at that time, not to ensure the continued production of food, but to prevent wage increases and possible unionization after 20 years of rural depression.

Has Illegal-Immigrant Favoritism Pushed African-American and Teen Unemployment to the Back Burner?
Quote:
The three charts at the end of this post from the Bureau of Labor Statistics should be cause for concern.

They show the unemployment rates for Blacks (African-Americans), all teens, and African-American teens during the past 10 years.

Each low unemployment-rate point achieved in 2000, when the overall unemployment rate reached its low point of 3.8%, was much lower than it is currently. Specifically:

-The Black/African American unemployment rate is 1.5% point higher (8.5% currently, 7.0% in April 2000). The percentage of African-Americans who are unemployed is still 21% higher (8.5/7.0) than it was at its low point in 2000.

-The teen unemployment rate is 3.4% point higher (15.7% currently, 12.3% in June 2000). The percentage of teens who are unemployed is still 28% higher (15.7/12.3) than it was at its low point in 2000.

-The Black/African American teen unemployment rate is 10.4% point higher (30.4% currently, 20.0% in April 2000). The percentage of African-American teens who are unemployed is still 52% higher (30.4/20.0) than it was at its low point in 2000.

If the 2007 unemployment rates in the these categories were the same as they were in 2000, the overall unemployment rate would be about 0.3% lower, and much closer to its 2000 low.

But why are the three unemployment rates just cited so much higher? What is present in 2007 that wasn't present in 2000?

How about perhaps 3.5 million or more (using a conservative estimate of 500,000 per year) additional low-skilled illegal workers who have entered the country since then, taking jobs away from relatively lower-skilled African-Americans and definitely lower-skilled teens -- jobs that African-Americans and teens could have and would have done?
