I’ve always loved the sight of orange trash bags on the California freeways. People who made some wrong decisions pay for it by improving our community.

I would like to see this implemented for non-criminal illegals to earn their citizenship into our country.

Starting 7-8 years ago, assign a Community Service sentences to illegal aliens inside the US. Not sure about what the proper amount should be, but those that jumped the border within the last year will have a much larger sentence then those who came 7-8 years ago (scaling as you go down).

Give them a decent amount of time to complete their Community Service (1-1.5 years). Able working illegals will have physical labor, and the elderly and less-abled females could serve food at homeless shelters or whatever. Physical laborers would have to contribute to cleaning streets, painting over graffiti, trash picking in public areas, etc (something that directly contributes to the community...not some small job for a company's backbone).

After they completed their sentence, get health exams, do all the regular processing...they win the grand prize. Those who do not complete their community service within the given time are subject to deportation.

An idea to compensate for the overused excuse: “They take jobs that the average American wouldn't do”:

Agricultural Community Service Centers

Using the Sheriff Joe Arpaio method, create tent-like minimum security jails for appropriate inmates, surrounding large agricultural areas. These centers could be used for low risk non-violent criminals, able-working homeless, new illegals that jump our double layered barb-wire fence, etc, etc, etc, etc.

The working inmates would earn a certain amount of money, just as they do in Prisons/Jails today.

I just don't think it would ever pass, hispanics would be calling racism. But I do think giving people an incentive to become citizens legally sounds good to me. I like Arpaio, although disagree with several of his ideas. But tents, sans brown recluses, would be good.

It'd definitely need a new "proposition name" to be taken seriously, but this could be applied across the board for all illegals regardless of race/ethnicity. So...even though some hispanics would still be screaming racism...the rational thinkers would hopefully see past it.

I thought of this idea a long time ago, and could've sworn someone brought it up since then...I'll have to expand on this some more I guess...Agricultural Community Service Centers obviously have a lot of potential and a lot of gray areas…

Its a horrible idea. Why don't we just chain them up and call them (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s? I bet you Democrats would love that. The Democrats have been looking for cheap labour and cheap votes since they lost the civil war. Giving them 50 million Mexican voters would be a bad idea. Stop comprimising with the evil ones.

The prisoners have always had work programs for when they're locked up. We don't chain them up and call them names. It gives them something to do, grants them small amounts of money, and contributes to whatever industry they're working in.

The Illegals would not be citizens until after finishing community service sentences and going through all the processing. It wouldn't be a small sentence that they can dish out in a week. It would be a serious commitment and a serious contribution.

A large group of Illegals wouldn't even bother and they'd tell the US to "shove it". This would separate those who value America...and those who want to spit on it.

...and I would be all for fining employers who hire illegals...

Your idea holds a lot of weight, but righty does make one small point. Many of us Americans know how immigrants are treated, especially the non-english speaking ones. They live in most of America's worst conditions and there isn't much waiting for them. I'd say if you wanted this idea to work there will have to be check-ups. Any HONEST government represenative would have to be able to come around whenever they want and report any malifications in the housing or the overall environment. Even though we know their illigals (they would be working to change thet) they should have at least a few of America's luxuries like: one TV, VCR, and/or DVD player, one sterio and one computer per camp. FOR THE IMMIGRANTS ONLY. They should have schedules and recorded computer time. I think this will give them a taste of the American life and teach them that to get the finer things in life, one must live according to the rules, the American Law System. It will help keep them out of trouble hopefully and give them hope for a future.
