Default The immigration / amnesty bill was dead...Part II

Quote:
Hispanic Leaders Call Latest Immigration Bill 'A Step Backward'
The bipartisan immigration bill being considered by the U.S. Senate would force thousands of immigrants to live in legal limbo for years and strip immigrants of their civil liberties, leaders of several Hispanic advocacy groups said Wednesday.

“Those (immigrants) who cannot show proof of continuous employment, who are unable to score high in the point system, will have to come up with $20,000," said Pablo Alvarado, executive director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network. "I cannot go and ask people to support this bill."

Some Hispanic rights advocates, such as Ms. Lemus, said the bill doesn't address a "broken immigration system," and instead is too heavily focused on beefing up border security.

"Of the $4.4 billion that is supposedly going into the bill, most of it is for security of the border," she said.

And we want to give complainers like this citizenship?

Here’s a hypothetical situation…You are living in a wood and cardboard shack somewhere deep in Mexico with no work, no hope for work, two sick kids, and your in-laws living with you – just to make life miserable. One day, you hop on a bus to Tijuana, cross the US border (illegally of course)…and in time you have relatively stable work, making $6.00 per hour. You are living in a worker's camp with a real mattress bunk bed and a roof that doesn’t leak. Plus, you are getting fed 3 square meals a day.

The only really big problem you face is “La Migra”, or the Border Patrol. If they catch you, they will throw you back to Tijuana. But in the meantime, you are sending money home…your wife has purchased a small house made of brick, the kids have seen a doctor…basically your life has taken a dramatic turn for the better.

Then some Catholic preacher comes along and says, “Hey, amigo, the US government is going to let you become a citizen of the US. You can bring your family, send the kids to school, and maybe you can be foreman someday.” “Gracias Dios”, you say. “But”, the preacher says, “you must pay 20,000 US dollars.”

Now here’s the question…do you say, “Forget that, where can I find such big money? …Or do you say, “If I work double shift and at McDonalds on my day off, I can get that money in less than 2 years! Wow, become a citizen for only $20,000? I would gladly pay that.

Here’s my reply. If you are one of the 5 billion poor people in the world and offered a chance to become a US citizen for $20,000, how can you complain? In the future that 20 grand will look like chicken feed when your kids are in college and you and your wife are pulling in $60 thousand a year. Anyone not willing to make that sacrifice is NOT WORTHY of becoming a US citizen. “You can’t handle it”.

But maybe somebody else feels we should give away citizenship papers like grocery stores give away food coupons. "muy estúpido"

Default ...

They complain because they want amnesty, but they aren't getting it.

They'll push for anything they can get before any new laws are passed, but if the bill were to pass as is, many of them would except the penalties, pay up, and become citizens. Many others would refuse and continue on as they are now.

Default Life comes down to a few moments. This is one of them.

Actually I think I support this bill based on how much they are against it as a reason in and of itself. Any bill they're happy with and you know the American people are getting screwed over. This is probably as good as it will realistically get.
