Are mandated school tests in English anti-immigrant?

Illinois' state senator, Iris Martinez, wants to allow tests in native languages...

"Under the law, school districts must show improvement in many categories of students, including those who have limited English proficiency"

I think this is pretty basic, if you move to america, you need to learn english. That is the language that was agreed on and thats the language we need to stick to. If they do not know english despite programs that seem more than happy to teach them then they can go back to where they came from.

My opinion is that there should be no central or even statewide policies on this. Individual schools should choose whether to have bilingual tests or not. If they choose not to, then what language they use is up to them. Yes, I think schools should have the option to do all their tests in Spanish, if they like. It would make sense for some of them.

Teddy Roosevelt got it right during the first mass migration to America from Europe:

I don't think we should have to make tests multilingual because of immigrants. I think first we should worry about the English speaking kids who can't read the tests.

You want to live here and enjoy the freedoms our Ancestors died for? Speak English, Read English, Write English. I am so tired of buying an American product (the few there are anymore) and having to look through the instruction book for the English Directions. Everything in America should be written in English.

If state schools don't enforce english testing, they are not doing their job. One of the main reasons for schooling is to prepare people for the work force. Without english, immigrants will be subjected to (*)(*)(*)(*)ty ass jobs.
