It means the RWers want to turn our poor into the rest of the worlds poor. Until they achieve that goal, they won't be happy.

BTW - your list is pure garbage. Most of those things are dirt cheap and can be given as gifts and handme downs as there a millions of microwaves, tvs, dvds, etc.
A car the poor have, barely runs and is 20yrs old. Yep, they are the luckiest poor on earth. Are you jealous?

No one, I REPEAT, NO ONE, want people living off the gov't permanantly. EVER!!!!!!!!!!

If the problem is so simple; that the poor and even middle class simply cannot pay their bills because they don't make enough due to greedy businesses not paying them; then raise the minimum wage.

Oh sure we'll lose oh 90ish percent of the businesses in America, but oh well at least the poor and middle class who can't be bothered to work more than 8 hours a day 5 days a week will have their cushy little lives; minus some stuff that they used to have since those businesses had to close...

Actually, that could totally work now that I think about it...

Okay so we raise the minimum wage on any company that makes non-survival products. (aka no raise to minimum wage increase for businesses that sell gas, food, etc)

Then we watch all the stores that sell useless crap like dog ice cream fail. With the useless crap businesses, out of business, the poor and middle class won't be able to buy that useless crap, which means they can pay their bills and buy useful crap to make their lives better!!

Aside form your civility and rations approach to having an adult conversation - the ems have locked the "poor" into a never ending cycle of dependency which sometime extneds to the next generation

So are you calling the US Census Bureau garbage?

It is clear the "poor" have it darn good thank to people like me paying for for their handouts

I am not surprised a civil leftie measures compassion by how much money is taken from me and given to someopne else

Someone else the left deems worthy of it

No, that would be the political system we have. That of crony capitalism. The large corps have things just the way they like them. Move jobs overseas, getting tax breaks to do so. Increase profits. Regulations to thwart small business competition.
No it's not because of a political party, it is because of our political system.

If you do that you artificially raise the price of exports and increase the demand for cheap imports, killing many more jobs. You furthermore destroy the ability of the less skilled to get a job. Not to mention the inflation that will lead to a new standard of poverty. Did you think this through?

and why does that happen? Becuase of the lefts insatiable appetite for power. Power that comes from keeping people poor

The poor are kept poor by the left increasing the size and cost of government to keep the handouts flowing

As taqxes go up, and the ledft continues to punish achievement more and more companies sya the heck with it and leave the country

People like me who work 50 hours a week (or more) are taxed to death and treated like dirt by tolerant libs when we dare to speak up and point out the 40 year failure of the lefts War on Poverty

Out of our 7 vehicles, the 1991 Chevy Stepside is the most reliable we own. See we, well okay truthfully our boys, are extremely responsible about her maintenance... Just sayin'

Funny how if you take care of the car, do not run it into the ground, trash the inside - it will last and last and kep on running

I drive a 10 year old car and it has over 250,000 miles on it

Our 1996 Subaru Legacy went belly up not too long ago; 478,000 miles. Although honestly we beat the chit out of her, 73 miles a day 365 days a year for 15 years doing our paper route up, on, and over two mountain's here in Alaska. She regularly pushed around up to 3' of snow in the winters; our customers up there used to joke that if we didn't "plow" the side roads for them they'd never get to work. :D

Also; yes, we are 1%'ers who have been doing a newspaper route for 20 years...

You have read absolutely nothing of my statements if you claim that I have stated that the system is fine.

My objection to your statement is that it is dishonest. You know well that Romney's statement was that he wasn't worried about taking care of the poor because the safety net - if it's broken - is considered by him to be easy to fix.

Tougher - as he's stated - is fixing the economy which is causing duress of the middle class.

Do not be dishonest; it's unChristian.

This is not the fault of the wealthy; there will always be wealthy people. It is the fault of stupid policy that we have allowed to be law, including many of the policies that you support, which do exactly the opposite of what you think they do.

This is a problem of the FED, and of Government expansion, but you are hopelessly unable to focus on the real causes. Hopelessly.

The system favors the wealthy far too much. Now, whatever THE PEOPLE must do to rebalance the "system"... is all I'm concerned about.

I admit the legal mechanics of it is not what I know deeply or are all that interested in... but I can see that it needs to be done.

I saw that "Occupy Movement" coming many years ago; and no, it is not over. Things will change, one way or the other. It is clear that "The 99%" aren't going to stand idly by, and be screwed-over for ALL time.

Nice diversion, but it appears the question was for proof that the "war on poverty" is being advanced in any way. Are there less people dependent on the government? No In fact last year 14 million Americans received food stamps, the highest it has ever been.

Spending on "entitlements" is the highest it has ever been, despite the fact Obama said hje would go over those entitlements "line by line" and get rid of the ones that didn't make sense.

Spending more is not going to raise anyone out of poverty, it only raises the bar on how you define poverty.

But, you see, your doing it with your grand children's money.

I think your quote is actually from the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank.

Regardless of what YOU or anyone else says... I think bolstering the middle class is the key to this nation's economic success.

All these (right-wing) ideas which do nothing more than make corporations richer AND increase their power... are those which will take us FURTHER into FAIL.

This thread has done a pretty good job of illustrating why some people succeed and many people fail. Look at the attitudes of the "can-dos" vs. the "it's-not-fairs." It's like night and day.

Look at all the excuses the lefties are throwing out here. I don't see a (*)(*)(*)(*) one of them that says, "Maybe my life could be better if I would do what is necessary to better myself." It's all just whiny class warfare rhetoric about how some big, mean system is holding the poor little dears down. Save us, Superman! We're helpless! No one is holding you down but yourself. You can keep blaming your problems on other people and feel better about why you will never amount to anything, or you can take some personal responsibility and carve out the life that you want. But most of you won't do that for the very reason I pointed out earlier. Because you have too much already that you don't appreciate. You are too spoiled. You think being broke in America is poverty. You should spend a year in a third world country and then see if you don't realize all the opportunities you have around you that you take for granted every single day.

I have no pity for mediocrity. Nor should anyone. If you're waiting for the government to make your life better, you deserve the life you get. Because you've done nothing to improve your own situation other than complain.

If we don't seek to preserve the middle class in America, we are FINISHED. Say anything else you want... but that is a fact.

America also has the poorest in the world, taking the increasing disparity between the richest and the poorest as an indicator.

Does that apply to everybody? Or just poor people?

What if all you'd like is for the government to stop taking the side of the wealthy against the poor?
