I see no reason why they should not have them. I do not believe all these scare stories that Iran would be a threat to Israel,America,Europe etc. If they did have them I could not see them being stupid enough to start a nuclear war that would see their own country end up like an over cooked turkey. As far as I know they are not going for nuclear weapons anyway and just want to use nuclear energy for domestic use. I find the whole hoha about them pretty hypocritical as when the Shah was in power the west was all for selling him any kind weapon he needed.
It's a very difficult question and i don't feel that i'm informed enough to make a decision. But I'll explain what i know. If Iran has nuclear weapons then a foreign invasion is unlikely take Pakistan for example. However if they make a nuke they'll suffer severe sanctions which could lead to suffering of the people. Or it could lead to an early invasion while the weapon is in development which would lead to a stressed situation that could lead to the use of nuclear weapons. If they don't make a nuke they may later be attacked. This would cause even more death and suffering then sanctions ever could and the attackers would likely suffer to. They also may not be attacked and simply be at odds with other nations and face restrictions to their country's sovereignty. The third option is to have the capability to build a nuke and launching devices for said nuke. This will lead to sanctions again but they won't be as sever. It also may lead to pre-emptive strikes or invasion but those are much harder to justify when Iran would have an absolute justification for developing a weapon capability. The first option is unreasonable and I don't see it happening. I think Iran is going for somewhere between option 2 and 3. I don't think they want to weaponize seeing as it would give Israel justification to attack. Now as far as I'm aware Iran will not have the capability to launch a nuke effectively and are not developing that. I also think it is unlikely that they could create a suitcase/backpack nuke. In all likely hood if they put all efforts into creating a nuclear weapon as fast as they could they would only be effective at hitting targets within Iran or on it's borders in several years. They would be decimated if they tried to hit anything outside of Iran by much more effective enemy nuclear systems. Ultimately Iran doesn't want to put itself in a situation where an attack against it can be justified but it doesn't want to be bullied by other countries either. So developing the ability to be able to make nukes for defensive use is their current choice. Is it the best I don't know but that is what they are doing.
The big problem is that it does not matter, if Iran makes a nuke or not. They will tell, Iran does. So the risk of war is the same.
True. No one really "should". Remember all those grave predictions regarding North Korea getting nukes? It's the same every time. If I ran a country that America decided for whatever arbitrary reason they did not like I would get a nuke, too. We have a history of leaving nuclear armed countries alone.
Yeah, its just amazing that there are so many apathetic libs posting here that could care less that the possibility of Iranian nukes being used and sold to other rogue nations with the chance and highly probable degree that nukes will be showering down on nations like Israel and the Western World right around when the world is suppose to end anyway in December (either by the Mayan prophecy or an obama win in the election) is ever so real.
No, there are already too many nukes that are just seating in silos, launch pads doing nothing a waste of money and resources.
Of course, Iran should have nukes. So should Chuck. He's the unemployeed deadbeat down the street. He's always wanted his own nuke and he's never threatened the annihilation of any country or state the goal was to kill all of any group. So, let's all here it for Chuck.
You don´t make them think. Nukes are not evil in their world. If the US nukes others, it´s a good thing. If others have a nuclear power plant, they´re evil.
No. Iran is governed by a repressive regime that actively supports terrorism, is allied with Syria and in particular Iran has called for the destruction of Israel and the United States.
As I believe the US is pondering the idea of calling for the destruction of Iran. Wouldn't be an issue without Iranian oil, though. Ask the North Koreans.
When has that happened? With a link please. Iranian oil has nothing to do with the possibility of Israel premptively striking Iran.
