Three people have been charged after Australian and German detectives smashed an international gun smuggling syndicate alleged to have been run, at least in part, from a suburban Sydney post office.

Police raided 11 properties in Sydney on Tuesday morning, including Sylvania Waters post office, in the city's south, eight homes and an import business.

They arrested three men, including a 30-year-old post office licensee, a 21-year-old worker at the import business and a 27-year-old telecommunications technician.

The men were charged with a raft of offences including supplying firearms, aggravated possession of firearms and participating in a criminal group.

All were refused bail and are due to appear at Burwood and Sutherland local courts on Wednesday.

It's alleged the trio were part of a syndicate importing Glock pistols from Austria via a gun dealership in Remscheid, west Germany, using falsified documents.

Police began an investigation the operation in February after tracing guns found in Sydney, including a Glock linked to a shooting in Campsie in late January, to a batch made in Austria.

The weapons were traced to the German gun dealership, which is alleged to have imported them to Australia using false consignment data.

Sylvania Waters post office is alleged to have been the end destination for the guns before they were distributed to bikie and Middle Eastern gangs across the city.

"We will be alleging these guns were being imported specifically for use by criminals, including outlaw motorcycle gang members and those in Middle Eastern organised crime groups," NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said in a statement.

"One firearm has been linked to a south-western Sydney shooting and we are making further inquiries to see if others are similarly linked."

A fourth person, a 28-year-old woman, was also arrested in Sydney and was being questioned on Tuesday night.

German detectives arrested a man in connection with the investigation after raiding a number of properties in Remscheid on Tuesday and seizing a number of documents and parcels.

Detectives involved in the Sydney raids also seized a parcel containing 140 Glock magazines, seven firearms, ammunition, drugs and computer equipment.

    ==============================================

We have lost all control over the arming of criminals.
    WAKE UP AUSTRALIA!

Australia lost control when scum-bag politicians diverted Australia's police force into being tax collectors and revenue raisers for the Government, instead of law inforcement officers, which they are trained and employed by the public to be.

Pauline Hanson advocated that the police and Government should be seperate entities and not combined. Maybe this is something else she will be proven to be right in a decade into the future.

Pauline was jailed under false evidence and pretences, and every time the woman tries to convey a message, its twisted and distorted into being racist, xenophobic or stupid.

I think under those circumstances, anyone’s patriotism would be wearing thin.

Australia needs more Pauline Hanson’s who will put the well being and interests of Australia and Australians over the interests of foreigners and foreign Governments.

I think Pauline has more patriotism for Australia in her little finger than all the scum-bag politicians in Australia put together.

No one is advocating that all Pauline’s policies were workable, but all she needed was some help and guidance to make them work.

I suppose Australia needs to import 1000 Greeks to work as Taxi drivers in Melbourne also, because that is what they are planning to do.

These sleazoids in the Taxi Council have lobbied the Government to bring over 1000 Greeks to work as taxi drivers, because they reckon they cannot find drivers. LOL LOL

Why not bring over 1000 New Zealanders or Tongans to work as drivers - why Greeks?

Could it be that Melbourne has the second largest population of Greeks outside Greece?

If something does not exist then it does not exist. Is there a problem with that logic?
