The federal govt has no power to make such a law and hopefully the states will nullify this like many states have done with much of obamacare.

We need to offer sterilization to the non-college women.

Sterilization is a preventive procedure for women who have serious heart conditions, kidney disease, diabetes, et al - for whom pregnancy could be seriously debilitating or fatal.

Or they can have the sterilization done and enjoy the rest of their life.

Does it bother you that people have sex?

No, it bothers me to have to contribute to the a pool that is already 15 trillion in debt subsidizing a society's need for consequence free sex.

If you want consequence free sex, pay for it yourself out of your own pocket. Stop trying to get taxpayers to subsidize it. Why is it that frackin hard to understand?

Why do we have to subsidize sexual behavior?? Why can't we just continue to let women deal with it on their own as they always have? When did they become weak and dependent?

Face facts, America is too greedy and incompetent a society to ever successfully administer a single payer system that doesn't reduce the quality of medical care for most of us in order to pander to the needs of a few protected groups in society.

I'm sick of getting (*)(*)(*)(*)ed over for the weak. The US Government forces me to live a lower quality of life than I have too and I'm sick of it.

So you think that insurance companies should drop paying for pregnancies and births?

I wonder how many college age girls can confidently make the decision to permanently sterilize themselves?

I'm saying lets not add any new mandates! I'm saying the Government needs to **** of the insurance industry and stop trying to decide what the product they sell needs to contain.

End the top down, centrally planned Government 'solutions' to our social issues! They are not real solutions! Our stupid Government is incapable of solving any problems.. period.

It wouldn't be so bad if you left wingers were more reasonable concerning this issue. It wouldn't be such a big deal if you all were supporting contraceptives, sterilization, etc, for medical purposes, but that's not the case. For you all, the narrative is "women are being oppressed", and it's total B.S. The medical aspect is just a convenient way to shoehorn things.

It's creepy, it's like there is an obsession with finding ways to keep people from reproducing. Leave it to California to be at the forefront of things.

I think paying for a sterlisation is better than the woman getting you to pay for her birth control, or having an abortion.

Yes, and it would prevent the woman from getting pregnant. So no abortion, and no welfare baby. I would have thought the cons would be happy about this!

This is far too extreme. I think it's actually quite inhumane and irresponsible to create the conditions for a college age girl to get a free sterilization on a whim. Sterilization should be an absolute last resort when not used for medical purposes. If avoiding pregnancy is the goal, take some BC pills or use condoms for Christ sake, rather than permanently destroying your ability to reproduce shortly after leaving high school.

This is left wing extremism masked as a fight for women's rights.

Oh yeah, of course it should be a last resort, and only after the woman has used birth control. Such an operation should not be permitted until the woman is past child bearing age.

Where you get the idea that this procedure would be some kind of "casual" birth control alternative is beyond me!

That is the intention - to use it for medical purposes.

But there are more than a few women with heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, various ectopic pregnancy predispositions, etc. who could very well have their life saved from sterilization.

And save HUGE money in medical complications from these situations, BTW, if you think the small cost of sterilizations are draining your pocketbook.

I am familiar with this - I got a vasectomy when I was 20 years old because of a genetic mutation that, once started, will kill 50% of any children I may have. The issue had not seemed urgent, but a girlfriend had decided to stop taking the pill (without mentioning it to me) and I have strong feelings about passing on genetic conditions.

My insurance covered it (those were the good ol' days of a $50 annual deductible with FREE, FULL employer-paid insurance from my employer for my ENTIRE family, if I had had one, all this from a JANITOR JOB!)

If my insurance hadn't covered it, would I as a horny-as-heck 20-year-old managed to NOT have a million-dollar-medical-cost baby throughout my younger years? I doubt it.

US healthcare was the envy of the world before the 1960s because it was a free market system. It offered the highest quality care to the most amount of people at the lowest cost. Ever since the government started getting involved in the system, the % of people covered has gone down, the quality hasn't kept up with technology, and prices have gone through the roof.

The incentives of the left are well intended, but in their own irrational pursuits they fail to look at the actual results of government involvement in healthcare. The proper solution would be to take the power away from big pharma and big health insurance by getting the government out of healthcare, letting the free market take over once again.

Also, please show me where in the Constitution it's authorized for the federal government to intervene in the healthcare system. If you can't do it, then we can safely assume that it's illegal for the federal govt to do that.

re #2: thats where reading the op comes in handy

All student health plans, HHS said Friday as it finalized a new regulation under the Affordable Care Act (otherwise known as Obamacare) must cover the full set of cost-free women’s “preventive services” that HHS ordered last month must be covered by all U.S. health care plans
