http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/05/27/miami-police-shoot-naked-man-another/ Why is it legal? In my opinion police should never be allowed to shoot an unarmed suspect. He could of tackled the guy, or kicked him, or wacked him with a club. But now he's dead.. A huge overreaction to a situation. This cop should be jailed for manslaughter.
This cop is a hero.. The naked man wouldn't stop and in a cocaine psychosis.. He would have bitten the cop's face as well.
i was a armed security officer in a mean casino in las vegas in the 1980s seen fights worse then this i would of never pulled out my 9mm smith see my proflie same pistal in photo, there was no need to i had backup close by and pepper spray and he must have a tazzer on him so other means of force levels should be used thus the victoms life was not in jepority
You had back up nearby? This cop had been flagged down on the street.. And evidently the facial wounds on this victim are life threatening.
But was there really a need to shoot multiple times? The details aren't available so can only guess. Yes, there is often the need to use guns even with unarmed criminals but restraint should be also practiced as far as practical. Can't really say what happened here though.
For what reason is there to use guns at unarmed criminals? The police are also supposed to be fit and able to use their physical statue to chase down criminals and then use assortments of hand to hand moves. Are the police in Miama clinically obese to only use guns.
The naked guy continued his biting attack after he was shot the first time and continued when he was shot the second time. There was a witness.. the woman who flagged down the cop. This is in a nicer area of Miami.
The cops have less than lethal options, and they are ranged. I have no idea why the cop didn't bother trying those first. I'm curious what the full situation is.
Aren't police supposed to be lean? so run after suspects. Although in Miami they seem to prefer bulk and guns.
Well clearly he wasn't normal, but there's no information that the cop even tried less than lethal. It sounds like he pretty much walked up, said hi, and started shooting until the guy was dead. Of course part of the issue is that the link given has such a small amount of information it's hard to come to any reasonable conclusion, but that's pretty much what it's sounding like.
I guess its for the Police Department to decide then whether it was excessive force or not. Can't the criminals also be lean and fit? What do you do then?
No.. He yelled at him to stop several times... There is another thread with a more detailed report somewhere.
That is why being a police person is a difficult career. They fill multiple roles, sprinter, martial artist, diplomat and beaucrat for the paper work. But simply shooting 'criminals' is insane. What next, the police doing drive bys?
True. But situations can justify using gun can be necessary often even on unarmed criminals. At least its far better than the 76 year old who accidentally pressed the emergency services button and when he refused to open the door, the cops broke in and shot the man. The cons here were actually defending the police in that.
but your missing the point theres levels of force..he went to deadly first http://www.policetest.info/FORCE_CONTINUUM_POLICE_USE_OF_FORCE.htm
Oh, please, Trucker, tell us about your adventures and the fights worse than this one. The victim apparently lost his face and I'd say his life was in jeopardy.
