I was raised a Catholic here in America in the '50s and '60s... Since about the early '90s here in America, the phrase "Judeo-Christians" has been repeated over and over by many US media sources until it has become a regular part of the US vernacular.....When I was growing up such a term would be considered an obvious oxymoron....I was taught in religion classes at my Catholic school circa 1957-1969 that we should pray for Jews as they were all going straight to hell, because they were mainly responsible for getting Jesus hung on the cross, therefore needed to repent. and ask Jesus to fogive them and become true believers.....Crucify him, crucify him, was the Jews mantra on the "Good Friday" I was repeatedly taught about in my school days...I had never heard any cleric or teacher in my Catholic education refer to anything resembling Judeo-Christianity...

Now, just 40 years later, we as Americans are all of a sudden described as "Judeo-Christians"...Seriously, when exactly did this transformation take place, who was behind it and for what reason? I also notice that every Christian candidate for POTUS in the last 20+ years has been photographed wearing a yarmulke along side some guy in a whacky hat and beard (just like the guys who supposedly insisted on having Jesus murdered) stuffing paper in some mythical Jewish wall...

Did the Catholics and Christians in general here in America discover some new information in the last few decades promoting this strange transformation or were they just BSing us for the first two millinia? I have long since realized that what much of what I was taught in Catholic school was a bunch of crap , and no longer consider myself a Catholic, although I have a great appreciation for the teachings of Jesus Christ, as I understood them...Any ideas where this "Judeo-Christian" buzzword came from and why "Christian-Zionists" have become such a powerful force in US politics.

    Cheers

Now I know nothing about religion except the basics but that does seem odd how a Christian can also be Zionist, they probably became that way due to world war 2? Honestly I have no clue.

There is no such thing as Christian Zionists. The term is used to differentiate between people who call themselves Christians but don't believe in the bible or its fulfilled prophecies, and those who do.

I, of course, belong to the latter.

    One word: Abraham.
It's actually more accurate to say "judeo-islamic-christian".
In any case, it's a better approach than the vicious family feud those three tribes have going today.

I was raised Lutheran and we had a much different outlook concerning Jews. We were taught that they were God's chosen people and that some of them had simply strayed away from Jesus. No one I heard every blamed the Jews for Jesus death because it was Pontius Pilate, a Roman, who ultimately had him executed even though he had an opportunity to let him go. Maybe your Catholic teacher's should try reading the Bible from time to time. That was one of the reasons Martin Luther said "Go F#$@ yourself!" to the Roman Catholic Church in the first place.

It is all about which Christianity you were raised with because Protestants have for the most part been the most vocal supporters of Israel, a hell of alot more supportive of Israel than most American Jews that is for sure.

Martin Luther was very critical of the Jews during his lifetime. I'm surprised that you are not aware of that fact, being a Lutheran and all...

    EXCERPT:

Martin Luther: The Jews and Their Lies
(extracts from the Jewish Virtual Library)

I had made up my mind to write no more either about the Jews or against them. But since I learned that these miserable and accursed people do not cease to lure to themselves even us, that is, the Christians, I have published this little book, so that I might be found among those who opposed such poisonous activities of the Jews who warned the Christians to be on their guard against them. I would not have believed that a Christian could be duped by the Jews into taking their exile and wretchedness upon himself. However, the devil is the god of the world, and wherever God's word is absent he has an easy task, not only with the weak but also with the strong. May God help us. Amen.

He did not call them Abraham's children, but a "brood of vipers" [Matt. 3:7]. Oh, that was too insulting for the noble blood and race of Israel, and they declared, "He has a demon' [Matt 11:18]. Our Lord also calls them a "brood of vipers"; furthermore in John 8 [:39,44] he states: "If you were Abraham's children ye would do what Abraham did.... You are of your father the devil. It was intolerable to them to hear that they were not Abraham's but the devil's children, nor can they bear to hear this today.

Therefore the blind Jews are truly stupid fools...

    ***

Now just behold these miserable, blind, and senseless people.

    ***

...their blindness and arrogance are as solid as an iron mountain.

    ***

Learn from this, dear Christian, what you are doing if you permit the blind Jews to mislead you. Then the saying will truly apply, "When a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into the pit" [cf. Luke 6:39]. You cannot learn anything from them except how to misunderstand the divine commandments...

Christians have hated Jews for millennia. During the Crusades, they exterminated any Jews they found along the way to Jerusalem, just for the fun of it.
There's no real difference between Protestants and Catholics when it came to hating Jews.
More recently, the Catholics have had a little better record on the issue since they formally forgave the Jews for killing Jesus in the 60s while the Protestant fundamentalists still dream about Armageddon and the destruction of Israel as a required prelude to their Rapture fantasy.

LOL, the Greek Orthodox Church used to have a "burning the Jew" (in effigy) ritual as part of Easter celebrations back in the day too! Now we have to make sure our presidential candidates are "vetted" by ritually bowing down to Israel. Why are we supposed to support Israel with unconditional love exactly, I was never fully trained in that?

And why is Zionism OK? What if I said I wanted to start a country for White Christians, that caters to and favors White Christians above other people, is that OK? It should be, if Israeli Zionism is OK.
