So, what's the deal, are they are aren't they an alley? White House clarifies Obamas statement that Egypt is not an ally "I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy," Obama said. "They're a new government that is trying to find its way. They were democratically elected. I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident." That comment had Egypt watchers scratching their heads, especially since technically, Egypt was designated as a Major Non-NATO Ally in 1989 when Congress first passed the law creating that status, which gives them special privileges in cooperating with the United States, especially in the security and technology areanas. Hmmm. Sounds like Obama shoots from the hip without aiming.
How is that a gaffe? They are a new government. And they do need to prove themselves to us before calling themselves our ally. Hell most conservatives on this board have already taken the next step and considered Egypts new government an enemy.
While blindfolded. Protip: If you're going to be a destroyer of the nation you're president of, at least make it look like you know who your allies are supposed to be.
How could he possibly know? He's a Democrat. Only Republicans know how politics works. See where that got you.
Let the Boy King off his carefully prepared leash, and his handlers immediately have to break out the "nuance" machine... Get this idiot OUT
Well, North Korea's situation is different from most. We only send them aid because it's better than going to war with them. We don't have the same situation to contend with when it comes to Egypt. They're unstable, but they're not crazy like little Kim is.
Is that what your Boy King was doing when he had no ME embassy contingency plans in place for 9/11?...like beefed up security?
I get frustrated at the low level of intelligence at times on this site. It's like my 16 year old daughter would have fun making fun of how idiotic some of these posts are. Egypt our ally? How did Egypt help out when we went to battle with their neighboring countries? How many bases or camps do we have in our allied country of Egypt? Obama was right!! COME ON PEOPLE - THINK!!!!
Is it a smart move to leave our people unprotected? Fresh out of a revolution doesn't sound to stable to me. Obama may have just as well of killed them himself. His stupidity is a mortal danger.
Looks like he's sending out some protection for the rest of our folks. The (*)(*)(*)(*)ing idiot should have done that in the first place for everyone and we wouldn't see the blood on Obama's hands today.
OMG!!!! A foreign policy gaff!!!! Wait, this isn't about Romney and the Olympics? Oh, well, don't worry about it.
I guess TheTaoOfBill, and DBM didn't quite get the question. I'm sure their silence isn't the result of being speechless. So let me just ask again. Did Obama forget to take Egypt off our alley list? Or is it a good idea to keep countries on the list before they prove themselves. [crickets]
This is really a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)slap to Egypt because they have so far done nothing to lose their status as ally. Obama is just incompetent, that's all this is.
Seeing that the Senate hasn't been busy approving or rejecting treaties with Egypt, it stands to figure we didn't just tear up all our treaties Egypt when the government changed.
The silence is because I'm at work. And as far as I'm concerned this particular Egypt has never been on our ally list because this particular Egypt is a brand new country with a brand new government. This wasn't like just electing a new president. This was a complete regime change. It's a fresh slate. I would also say the same of North Korea if the people of North Korea revolted and set up a democracy. I think they would not be an Ally or Enemy at that point.
