    Imagine a world without liberalism.

John Lennon asked us to imagine a world without religion, but I've never heard any songwriter ask us to imagine a world without liberalism.

But such a world would be a much better place, would it not?

The socialist decline of Europe would never have happened.

The economy of the world would not be in the deep depression it is due to the over-spending of the socialist countries.

Factories would be built in America, not in China.

Detroit would be a boom town, not the ghost town it is becoming.

Blacks would be fully employed, prosperous, and have stable happy families.

The borders would be secure, but that might not even be necessary because Mexico would be a propsering nation as well.

Vatican II would never have happened, and the Catholic Church would still be growing and prosperous and strong.

Young people would grow up knowing that the future is better today and that there will be lots of jobs and opportunities for them when they graduate college.

    Why?! (That's extremely unrealistic.)

I already saw "Oz" and "The Matrix" (good movies); plenty of unreality there. I don't need more, really.

Gabriel.. serious? He has no solution other than more tax cuts for the fabulously wealthy!

The current RW meme is quite funny once one realizes that they're failing on literally every issue.

    Think?

    Unfortunately, there is no solution.

There are simply too many liberals in positions of power in order to save our world.

So the West will continue to decline until it falls and there is a new Age of Darkness.

Perhaps during this new age of barbarism, monastaries of the Catholic Church will re-emerge as havens of civilization, places where learning and science can be protected while the rest of the world is under the power of robber barons and bandits.

If that happens, it will prove that history is a circle, and we are in the Decline and Fall portion of that circle.

No, the Catholic Church cannot save modern Western world. It is too far gone for that. What the Catholic Church can do is preserve the knowledge of the western world in underground computer banks and while the outside world falls into darkness, preserve those underground computer banks in fortified monastaries guarded by warrior monks.

At some point, a new civilization will emerge and the monastaries can share the knowledge they preserved so that humans will literally not have to reinvent things like airplanes, and automobiles.

There will be no bunker busters after the fall of civilization. People will be fighting with small arms and hand grenades, maybe, but nothing more complicated than that.

Any way, who's going to be motivated to drop a bunker buster on a monastary preserving ancient knowledge in underground computer banks?

The only people who would do that would be an anti-technology luddite cult who want to keep the world in a state of backwardness forever.

But why would anti-technology people use an advanced weapon and how would they even know how to use it?

A more likely event is the monastaries are looted for other valuables and the computer banks are accidentally destroyed in the process.

But with back-ups, you would have to destroy ALL the monastaries in the world to completely wipe out the knowledge.

I would have loved to hear John Lennon rewrite "Imagine" at the end of his life. Allegedly, he had become a Reagan loving Republican who was somewhat ashamed of his earlier idealistic views.

John Lennon declared that he wasn't a violent revolutionary when he came out with the song "Revolution" but I think at that point he realized he was under FBI surveillance and wanted to avoid getting deported. Who knows if he really meant it.

First off, you don't have to imagine a world without liberalism. You can read about it in most of the books by Charles Dickens.

Second, most of what you describe above was created by the neocons and blamed on others. We had a wonderfully workable system during the 50s, 60s and 70s. Then Reagan Republicans and Clinton Democrats took a system working excellently and created the mess we have today. They changed working tax policies, working regulatory policies and working trade policies. Remember the concept: "If it ain't broke , don't fix it." Well, they (both parties) fixed it real good.

To take just one point from the above list: Do you really not see that the global recession was caused by the unregulated gambling on Wall Street, their fraud and greed. Followed up by a bailout that violates every tenet of the conservative deregulation free market economics they bribed our legislators into implementing?

The deregulation of mortgage lending was a Democrat idea and George Bush tried to warn the Democrats and they ignored him.

The bailouts were a bad idea and I have always said so.

And none of this has anything to do with the topic at hand, which is "Imagine a World without Liberalism."

    Maybe I should add:

In a world without liberalism, the government would not use extortion to force banks into making bad mortgage loans to people who can't pay back.

The motivation behind that policy was to get more minorities into homes they owned.

That's a good idea to get minorities into their own homes, but forcing bad loans that are then repackaged and sold on Wall Street was an idea that was bound to have bad consequences.

Is GoldLine even open anymore? I thought they closed after they got sued for lying to customers about the market value of the gold they sold, and I also thought that Beck got in trouble for plugging those sales on the air.

I never thought buying gold was a good idea. You can't make money off it, all you can do is put it in a vault and watch it gather cobwebs.

But what do I know? I thought real estate was a good investment. I underestimated the ability of Democrats to totally screw up the safest investment there is and make it worthless.

And the first to go would be Tony Abbott and then Christopher Pyne. Barnaby Joyce would be high on the list.
