So??? Is it "acceptable" because they are not white?
If you are going to look at removing illegal firearms then you HAVE to look at where they are obtaining them - and since we are on the issue of children and guns

I thought that the argument was that children are more likely to get killed by a gun than defend their home with a gun... you wish to move the goalposts? We can do that... but I am just going to finish tidying up the first argument as if you had not abandoned it once your "debunking" did not go so good.

    219. Now... considering most people inclined to teach their kids gun safety probably don't give their kids access to firearms, even if they know how to handle them, till around 10. So... in that span of 10 to 14...

This is a pretty narrow group of kids in this society, in this climate, who are trained and have access. The number then dwindles further as to the number of home invasions which would put them in the position of defending themselves.

I believe you will find they are overrepresented.

Where do gangster kids get guns? Gangsters. Bikers. Parents. Friends... but mostly? Robberies.

So if you would like to address robberies, they are illegal. As robbery is the primary vehicle for obtaining illegal guns... it seems smart to both have one, in case someone decides to come looking, and have them locked, but accessible. Biometric gun safes/locks are my solution.

We should work on reducing costs of certain kinds.

??????????? Talk about redefining goal posts ???????????

So far all I am seeing is issue dodge

The American Academy of Paediatricians (you know those people who look after little people) have come out with this statement

    http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/early/2012/10/15/peds.2012-2481.full.pdf

So you can brush off child injury as "just those gang bangers" but the truth is if there is a firearm in you house your children are at risk of being killed or seriously injured either through

    Accident
    Suicide
and or recruitment to a gang

That it total crimes reported but the essence of Klecks study was that most crimes stopped are not reported.

No... that was not your comparison. I don't give a (*)(*)(*)(*) what the AAP has to say about the second amendment. I gave you hard facts. Hard numbers. The number of kids, that is under 15, killed by firearms in 2010 was 219.

I am suggesting that the number of home invasions involving 10 - 14 year olds... you do remember the OP is 11... those who are victimized is probably greater than those who defend themselves. The number of kids that lose gunfights defending their home is pretty much nil. Usually the sight or fire of a gun gets them to getting on. The losses to bad parents? Hard to even think about rationally... but only 219 tragic losses involved firearms, most preventable with common sense.

We lose a whole lot more in car accidents... beatings/shaking... falls... drowning... while tragic... child losses to gun violence is acceptable, if 3 times as many are worth your pool to you... you don't have a right to a pool. They kill a lot more kids than guns.

Above 15, MOST illegal guns come from neighborhood robberies. You hit houses often enough you end up with guns, because they are not secured.

And for every one of those incidents, there are 20 more incidents of responsible gun owners protecting their lives, their families, their homes, and their property from violent criminal scum that do not get reported in the media because the media is not interested in showing both sides of the story to give proper perspective. Only in demonizing guns so that the ignorant and the uninformed will remain afraid of them.

The numbers you quote on the anti-Kleck side sort of forget to cover the crimes attempted and not completed and the crimes tried but not reported, which is most of the nations crimes...

Rubbish! Are you telling me that someone comes to rob you with say a knife and you pull a gun on them - you would NOT as a concerned citizen report that? The police would NOT file a report?

That contention is as flawed at the rest of Kleck's rubbish research

Then on that we do agree

I honestly doubt you are going to rationalise what is happening over there in relation to guns any time soon but making it safer in the home - that could be a start. See I really think of all of the strategies we Aussies put in place in 1996 securing guns was the most effective. It cut down on theft - didn't stop it but it cut it down, made it more difficult for guns to be used in domestic violence and suicide and kept them out of the hands of kids

Yes I agree that maybe instead of taking guns away you start encouraging gun safety with federally supported interventions like gun safes. Make it part of a voluntary registration process

    Hmmmmm..................might start a thread

Not just making them safer for the occupants, but securing them from thieves. That will cut down on the problem areas.

Agreed - unfortunately the whole discussion on guns has polarised to "gun nuts" and "gun grabbers" with little room for those in between. Look I have no issue with someone living in the South of USA, especially near water, owning a gun for protection against crocs - sound advice as far as I am concerned. I have a HUGE issue with people putting holes in people simply because I have had to deal with the aftermath. We cannot stop it but we can mitigate it - same as we did for car related deaths.

    NCPA and Breitbart :roflol:

Look around old chap I have already debunked those so called statistics numerous times

But once again YOU CANNOT COMPARE CRIMES STATISTICS BETWEEN COUNTRIES

Different laws, enforcement, penalties, justice system, ways of collecting data (ours is more accurate than yours) ways of collating data (we include many things you would consider "minor" crimes etc etc etc

In 1977 I was involved in a carjacking. As I had a car full of guns, coming from the range, I simply picked one up, pointed it at the fellow who was too busy tripping, falling and running to use the knife he had. I most assuredly did not report the incident.

In 1983 I was awakened by someone twice my size and half my age trying to smash in my door demanding to see 'Alice' who I most assuredly did not know. He was dissuaded from destroying my door and then me by the Walther I poked in his face....Again I most assuredly did not report the matter.

The 'why' is simple...Once called the police in many cities are far more interested in arresting the gun owner than the fellow who got away.

how can there be "illegal" guns if everyone has a constitutional right to bear arms

now we could make owning a gun a privilege and treat it like driving, IE you need a license, but as of right now it is a right, just like freedom of speech

maybe we need to crack down on the how a Gun is used rather then who has a Gun

And in BOTH instances you could easily have managed the incident without a gun

Good thing I live in a country where I don't have to be afraid of a home invasion. And we are not armed, lol.

    - - - Updated - - -

You should know by now that no American can handle a sticky situation without using a dangerous weapon. They won't even call the cops to report the person who refuses to leave their front yard - they'll shoot him instead. And that's apparently legal. Go figure.

So what happens to you if you sell a car to someone who kills a child drunk driving?

LOL... and your source doesn't even know the difference between the words "of" and "or". At least try and use a source with a rudimentary knowledge of writing. That way, you won't be laughed at so hard.

I'm laughing out loud as well, given your highest violent crime rate. But hey, at least you'll just be beaten or stabbed to death rather than shot, eh?
