I'm interested in what Canadians on the forum think of Justin? He seems to be a shoe-in for Liberal leader. Will he save the Liberals or guarantee the NDP's place as the alternative to the Conservatives?

He has one major thing going for him; his last name. I pray for the good of Canada that name is not remembered fondly. Trudeau Sr. nearly destroyed a great country.

ugh, rock star pretty boy with a famous last name. Bob Rae should have been the leader. I really hope this kid isn't just some flash-in-the-pan or he is going to take the Liberals down harder then the last election.

Why, you like the NDP/Liberal split? Great in a first past the post system.

Not really, its what gave Harper his Majority last time around and that was probably the worst thing to happen to this country.

Honestly I'd like someone to unite the left like Harper did the right, but I doubt that is going to happen for a while.

Thank you kindly for your info. Most of it is all good, I think. Not sure about the Multi-Kulti.

    1) Official Languages Act - Forced bilingualism even where demand doesn't warrant in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut (well three there). But unilingual French in Quebec. Sound fair?

    2) Reorganization of Armed Forces - To demoralize long-term servers, Frenchify officer ranks. What else accomplished? Oh, I forgot, de-royalizing and denying Canada's great history.

    3) Charter of No Rights - No protection for property. Constitutional enshrinement of OLA. A preamble that shreds all rights if that shredding is "consistent with a democratic society."

    4) See 1 and 3.

    5) Encouraging ghettoization and dependency on the part of new immigrants, rather than melding into become Canadian.

Sounds like Trudeau senior got a lot done. What is spawn going to do?

The population of New Brunswick is in practice bilingual, the only province that is. As for the rest - all Canadians should be able to get government services in either language in any province, including Quebec. Quebec is not a uniligual province. They have to provide services in both official languages, just like all others.
Each member of the armed forces swears allegiance to Queen Elizabeth II.

What the heck are you talking about here? "Ghettoization"? Are you a lost tea partyer?

I'm not a big fan other either Trudeau but generally speaking you may not be the best person to be able to evaluate either based on your lack of knowledge of history or current events.

My understanding, from having recently been in Quebec City is that government services are only selectively provided in English, and to a limited extent When I went on some hikes with my wife certain of the literature was translated and certain literature French only. As far as NB goes my understanding is that provincewide you are right, but that it's regionally either French or English with only a few areas using both languages.
I am talking about the merger of the forces. And you know what I meant.

    Ever been to Jane-Finch?
I may not be the best but my evaluation is not bad either. I watched his interview with Mansbridge with morbid fascination. He sounds like a social work school graduate student; gushing with compassion and understanding for the perpetrators of an attempted massacre.

Actually, the worst thing that came from Trudeau was the NEP.

Oops. Should have been on the list. And I have a fair number of Albertan friends who don't remember that fondly.

And of course Mulroney pulled it when it would required the rest of Canada to make payments in the other direction when oil prices plummeted during mid-1985 to early 1986.

sounds better than Calgary I run across any french services yet...

sorry no, that was in process even before PET was elected to the HOC in 1965, unification was the work of Paul Hellyer and the Pearson Government began in 1964 ...my bro-in-law spent 25yrs in the unified forces and had no complaints...

ever been to N/E Calgary? Citadel, Hamptons, Edgemont, Hidden Valley? all in Calgary we're all happy...your issue is obviously an issue of racism...

you overestimate you're ability to evaluate...

any combination of NDP and Liberals that creates a majority works for me, enough so that they can change the flawed FPTP electoral system and forever remove the possibility of phoney majorities and introduce fair representation, I want my vote to count!

I'm not keen on JT's idea of saving the senate as is, for that he won't get my vote, I want those lazy entitled *astards off my payroll...

I believe that the general population, who, for the most part will vote for Trudeau because of his father, do not know any of his policies. And, as a matter of fact, nobody knows what Justin Trudeau thinks. I don't think he's an excellent politician and I don't think he should become Prime Minister.

I would be happy, if we could find a candidate who would not allow himself to become Israel's poodle, like Harper is.

From my perspective, justin trudeau doesn't yet have enough experience to be prime minister. He has little to no business background, been in commons for only 5 years. I think he needs more seasoning and along the way he has to establish his own identity and competence with the Canadian voter.

As leader of the liberals, he is going to have to re-invent their platform and their organization. Since the NDP moved to toward the centre, they've eaten the liberal's lunch. JT is going to have to create solid differentiation if he stands any chance of governing.

BTW - I happen to think that PET was one of the greatest Canadians of all time. He reshaped the country for the better overall. Had more hits than misses making him a "+plus player".

Perhaps the better view is that he's doing what he thinks is right. I frankly think that most Canadians consider themselves to have more in common, culturally and politically, with Israelis than with murderous terrorist thugs. The world doesn't need another basket case such as Syria.
    Agreed.

His Mansbridge interview showed his appealing, and fresh, naivete. Not governing material any more than Kim Campbell was.

I don't know what made him so great. He essentially rent the fabric of a great country in order to create something that it wasn't and can never be; a multicultural and truly multi-lingual society. At best, French forced down the throats of Anglophones is a pain in the ***; at worst it's an expensive, divisive albatross.

what seasoning did Obama have before he became President? three years as a senator no business background...

JT's father PET had no business background and had only 2 years of HOC experience before becoming PM....

what seasoning did harper have in business? he's never had a real job, everything he's done was a political appointment for various conservative parties his only experience in the private world was a brief stint in a mail room, a job his father arranged...
