This whole controversy reminds me of the Dixie Chicks incident where the lead singer said one negative thing about Bush. The media erupted against them the same way that they are reacting to Paula Dean right now.

    Political Correctness destroys.

    Not really.

People don't want to buy (*)(*)(*)(*) form folks they think are (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s. That is the beauty of capitalism and a free market.

Wah wah, conservatives only like the free market when it's not punishing racists. Corporations are allowed to do business in this manner if they so choose. They see her as a hot potato that they don't want to be holding; they don't want to be associated with someone facing these allegations and it's completely within their right to make those business decisions. As I've been told over and over by conservatives, corporations have an obligation to make money, and if they think Paula Deen is going to negatively affect their bottom line, they have an obligation to drop her like a turd.

And of course, that's what you would say if it was corporations doing something you liked. But it's not, so screw the free market, right?

And by "politcal correctness" do you mean, "not being a POS racist?"

And how does a singer saying something to distance herself from a horrible president compare to someone using racial slurs?

By "blacks" do you mean "one woman?" This is like the "I have a black friend, so I can't be racist" line. lol

Free speech doesn't mean you can't get fired for saying certain things. That's not in the constitution. Free speech protects you from the government punishing you for speech - it doesn't protect you from employers firing you or companies ending their business relationship with you.

Horse feathers. The big difference between the Chix and the fat sow is that the Chix had real talent and brains.

The food sucks and people don't like her attitude.

Is she somehow entitled to make a better living than someone like Ainsley Harriott?

Well this is not a freedom of speech issue, it is called the free market. If the publisher doesn't want to be associated with her that is their choice. As for them being sued, unlikely since there is probably a clause about actions.

But let me be clear as a bell. Paula Dean's free speech rights have not been infringed.

ironically, her free speech is what got her in trouble in the first place.

I think this has gone far enough. Time for at least one of the corporations to stand up for her.

    No,they are not comparable.

In the case of the Dixie Chicks, "the media did not erupt" . Right wing media erupted, and right wing media alone.

It was also an orchestrated campaign. The Dixie Chicks were chased off the air by Clear Channel Communications, the nation's largest holder of radio stations and syndication. Rush Limbaugh is their flagship product.

The Paula Deen thing is not an organzied hit job. The Dixie Chicks thing was.

Corporations only speak one language, and it isn't politics.

I haven't been following this much, I did not even know who she was before this, I think her apologies sounded fake, but maybe that is just the way she always sounded

but I agree with you, this seems extremely blown out of proportion if all this is about is something she said years ago

freedom of speech includes the speech of those criticizing her don't cha think?

even if I do not agree with what someone says, they still have the right to say it, and people still have the right to criticize or applaud it

personally I do not think ANYONE should use the N-word, that doesn't exclude any races... but that is just my 2 cents

Guaranteed most elected officials in DC have said racist and bigoted things in there lives many times. ALL of them. Even Obama in college. You think he didn't use the N word with some buddies? Or call guys white boys. Everyone has done it at one point.

Seriously. Her food sucks and she is not a particularly likeable person, and some people have figured out that she is the obnoxious redneck that her speech and manners suggest that she is.

She can go sell her books without a corporate subsidy, if she is really that good a cook.

She should've just shut up. People are acting as if it was just comments said years ago, yet her recent remarks in defense of herself have been just additional shovels into the ground for her own grave. "They" didn't take anything from her... her own mouth got her in the mess she's in today. Boo hoo. Sorry if that doesn't sit well boo-hooists.

Rush Limbaugh was hired to be a shock jock. He's in the business of sensationalist media. You don't exactly fire someone for fitting their job description.

She is also being sued for discrimination so that has an impact on what is happening. I'm not sure if I should have sympathy for her or not because I don't know what is true or what is not concerning the claims of the plaintiffs.

I was think more along the lines of Terminator, human create the machines which eventually gets out of control and destroys them. Didnt people say she's a leftist? Then she's part of the PC Marxist ideology that just ripped her a new one.
