For the orthodox faith the bible is an allegoric, mystic and metaphoric book and only idiots (heretics) can take it literally , also the bible is not scientific , "god" doesn't make scientific statements and the purpose of the book is not that . From the little i know jews also think of their scriptures as mystic and metaphoric and catholics as well (catholic church accepts evolution for example) . The only people who think the bible is scientific are protestant sects of newbie nations with very short exposure in philosophy and minimal tradition in scholarship .
Well the fundamentalist view of the Bible really emerged during the Depression and the Dust Bowl via preachers like Amy Semple McPherson.
Aaaaaand I didn't need to read one more sentence after the first one. People who think think the bible is scientific in the slightest way do not understand science, or are being intentionally dishonest with themselves.
Long before that, actually, as you know. "The Fundamentals" was published in 1910, and Darby was spewing his crap in the 19th century.
True Darby was a crackpot... but his ideas didn't get wide acceptance in the US until the traveling tent revivals of the 1930s.
Before the Bible, mankind didn't even know he could reach the Moon. if so, he woul've went prior to the Bible. It was the Bible that explained to us what's out there and what's possible for us to achieve. And to correct myself, I say the Nephillim taught mankind how to create the wheel. otherwise we'd still be walking around today.
and yet man didn't reach the Moon till 2,500 years after the Bible was written. not only does the Bible contribute nothing to science, but its actually hampers science.
It always has. Technology began developing rapidly 10,000 years ago... and was shared rapidly. The idea that it came from the Bible or the Nephilim is nutty.
Exactly! because it took mankind that long to figure out how to do it., but the inspiration to do it and what was out there, came from the Bible. I have no doubt. Otherwise mankind would have never gone up there. No other book would've inspired him to do so or he would've done it prior to the Bible. Not even the Nephillim could make him totally understand what was possible until the Bible came.
Sort of like King James being a black man? I have to wonder if this comes out of the Ethiopian church.
Do you include Social Science in your comments above? The Bible seems undeniably concerned with our social behavior and the consequences that it predicts will come when whole generations collectively act sexually prudent and socially responsible to others, as opposed to when they do not. Much of the present social disruption (Abortion, Gay Marriage, pre-marital sex, divorce, etc), in our own culture today revolves around the same things as the Bible focuses upon. Since Sociology is a Soft Science at the moment, it seems fair to say that the ancient testimony and even its reported history of fallen societies and the explicit focus on sexual immorality is releveant commentary, as worthy as any other in this discipline of Sociology.
But things the Bible says can not be scientifically disputed, like the Big Bang certifies that time started ticking with an "In the beginning." And, Pangea supports that once "all the waters under heaven were collected, TOGETHER in ONE place"... (Gen 1:9). Now we know that a long Dark Age existed before God said, "Let there be light,":... (Gen 1:3-5) So on and so forth. Though Science isn't developed nor approached by these simple declarations in the Bible, Science has now been used to show they are true.
Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
What does building a tower have to do with space travel? And the entire point of the story of the Tower of Babel was that this was a bad thing to do.
Yeah, it was bad, Who says going to the Moon is a wise focus for an world about to collapse with obe nation pitted against another? But that is another subject, and I was just saying in response to you, that man's effort to reach into the heavens is mentioned clearly.
Dave, the Bible approves of sex with one's offspring, so the bible is not a good role model to follow, clearly.
Dave is clearly delusional because he believes that talking donkeys in the bible are real, and he believes in a talking dead guy, and in a talking snake, and in dragons (Bible), and I doubt he's removed the favorable references to UNICORNS in his Bible (he's too intellectually weak to do that.) He seems like a nice guy though.
