Yes, but it is a big leap from those lines to a min wage increase bringing those lines together, and that is if one even believes that bringing those lines together is helpful to society in general.

"Tiny"...my rear end. The 'cost' of 'doing business' equates to who you can pay off, whether the fine is less than the cost of 'doing business' and whether you get caught or not. The way they roll into town, and steamroll over the communities that they invade, it's no wonder they're such a conglomerate at this point. They only carry certain sizes of selected (high profit) items, they threaten and bully their vendors (as I've covered), and they build brand new store right next to an older one, as a matter of routine. (where do the gobs of cash come from when they do that, huh?). It's not about 'tiny profit'. It's about much more.

Yeah, yeah. Hang the managers as sacrificial lambs in case they get caught implementing their agenda. Compartmentalization DOES work, no doubt.

You crack me up man. The big corporate defender, who knows all about me, with all kinds of brilliant assessments of me, and my situation (of which you know absolutely NOTHING about). Hey, maybe you can answer this for me? Does Walmart ship in busloads of illegals to 'cash their paychecks", like they do in my area?

Obviously you are not familiar with "Quintiles." If you go to a chart of the same information the bottom two lines tend to average the curve of the bottom quintile. View attachment 24854

Actually, how dare workers unite to extort money from capital.

You are easy to understand. You show us every time you post.
I don't believe that for a minute, but on the slim possibility you are partially right, why not report the to the INS?

Corporations never do anything bad. I understand. The INS? Not a bad idea...I'll give it a shot. Thanks man.

My failure to comply with the 'bend over and receive the corporate shaft' shows that I don't 'understand'. Oh well, such is life.

Employment at my place of business is not a human right. Unionize if you want to, it's up to you, but get off my lawn while you do it.

The unionist idiots wonder why new manufacturing tends to start their business in right to work states and are shutting down in Union Shop states. AND paying very good wages. Alabama is now considered one of the most prolific auto, engine, truck manufacturing states in the country.

One of my run ins with a union was the electrical workers union in Georgia. When I was an E-4 in the army with 6 kids, I rewired the power entrance to my home. Before I could switch the cable from the old 60 amp system to the new 200 amp system it had to be inspected by the power company. Twice a man came out, asked for the receipt from the (union) electrician, and twice left without even looking at the installation. I had the engineer from Ga Power come out who inspected it and proclaimed it to be one of the most professional jobs he had ever seen. I was an electronics technician in the army and did the entire job in what is called in the field, square wiring. That meant that every wire was fashioned with 90% turns and were 100% visible without moving anything when observing. I was able to do the job with what at the time was the power company contribution to go all electric. Had I called an electrician it would have been more than I could afford. It wasn't the only run in, but it is the most flagrant violation of ethics I had seen.

A later run in was in an industrial overhaul facility in Germany. I was the MATO (materiel officer) responsible for hiring, training, supplying and budget of a 600 worker factory facility. One of our workers (all were union) had been out on medical leave leave for over 2 years. He was observed in a parade marching with his drums and was terminated. His union sued us (the US Army) for illegal termination and the trial lasted almost a month and the union did not ever back down. The labor court found for our facility but we were still required to pay him his wage during the litigation and all of his legal costs and union legal costs.

No, I am vehemently anti-union, and I base that on my experience, AND the fact that our labor laws now protect labor from unsafe and poor work conditions. Unions are no longer a reasonable for functional part of US labor.

Here's what they don't understand. The jobs MY company provides belong to ME, and I will award them to who I see fit to fill them based on criteria that I decide. They are MY jobs to fill, they do NOT belong to the people who fill them. The company belongs to ME, and I will run it as I see fit. If unions want to try to strong-arm me, and the law offers me no relief, I will close the doors and move my company to somewhere that offers a better business environment, or I will take my ball and go home.

I'm a Wal Mart hating libertarian. I hate them because of how they obtain their low prices. They don't do it through honest means. They do it through strong arming suppliers. If they would have low prices because of an extremely efficient business model, efficient transportation and distribution networks, etc that would be great. But that's not how they do it. They do it through screwing suppliers.

I worked for Wal Mart for one day. I went through 6 hours of training and couldn't stand it. After watching videos about how to say no to unions, how to deal with the desire to shoplift, etc I'd had enough. When filling out the paperwork I had a choice of 1-12 on circling the highest grade completed. I had to ask where to write in that I had a 4 year bachelors degree. I was paid 6 dollars an hour. In 2001. Screw that place.

Seems you're ok with a corporation maximizing profits but not the individuals who work for corporations. It's that mentality which necessitates unions.

Alabama has one the highest poverty rates in America at 47. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_poverty_rate

And ranks 15 from the bottom on the Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity by State. http://www.kauffman.org/~/media/kauffman_org/research reports and covers/2013/04/kiea_2013_report.pd

It is the workers who produce all the wealth in society, that is why I find it ironic that anyone could criticise workers for 'extorting' money, which is what we currently use to measure/value wealth.
    I could give a (*)(*)(*)(*) that you're a democrat, I am no spineless liberal.

You may be no spineless liberal, but you obviously do not understand mature economies. The concept that capital is the excess production of labor has gone the way of the Dodo bird. the fact is workers earn wages based on what capital creates in the way of jobs. The "workers paradise" has never really existed and labor as the creator of capital is just as passe'

What we have are wage quintiles broken down to reflect what the actual wages are or can be. The bottom quintile is the lowsest 20% of wages and they are represented as an average. Each higher quintile tells us what the average wage is in the next higher 20% of the work force, and so one. This is not something I invented, or like or want to push on anyone, it is simply an analysis of money earned by each group in our economic system. The latest full statistics we have show the bottom quintile had about a $16,000 income in 2003, the 2nd quintile had about $20,000 in 2003, the 3rd quintile about $42,000, the 4the quintile about $82,000 and the top quintile averaged $120,000 a year.

So lets put them in a column.
    5 $120,000
    4 $ 82,000
    3 $ 42,000
    2 $ 20,000
    1 $ 16,000

No one says that is a glorious record of wages earned and since they are averages some made more and some made less within their own quintile. So lets do a little thought experiment. Lets raise the income by double in quintile 1 to $32,000. Is there anyone among us who believes that the other quintiles will stay the same? Or do you recognize that it is likely going to increase proportionally. That would make the 2nd quintile go up to $40,000. What you see is the spread has increased from $4,000 to $8,000, and that takes into consideration that the second did not go up progressively. Looking at the 3rd quintile we see that historically it has gone up progressively by a small %. The natural increase in the 3rd quintile is 2.2 x 1.1 x $42,000 such that now the 3rd quintile average income is $102,000, while the 4th quintile goes up 1.33 x 1.4 x $82,000 such that now the 4th quintile is about $152,000 which is even more progressive and the highest quintile will be 1.2 x 1.46 x $120,000 to $210,000.

    5 $210,000
    4 $152,000
    3 $102,000
    2 $ 40,000
    1 $ 32,000

Now, in case you are wondering where I got those numbers, it was from a chart on Wikipedia which sources at:
Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2003
    # Carmen DeNavas-Walt, Bernadette D. Proctor, Robert J. Mills
    # August 2004
    # U.S. Census Bureau
    # U.S. Department of Commerce
    # Table A-3: Selected Measures of Household Income Dispersion: 1967 to 2003 pages 36-37

The relative increases are based on inflation adjusted to 2003 $$$ and it represents a progression of income should the historical model continue to be accurate.

So now, lets look at the figures. Do you see the progressive increasing in income inequality? Does anyone believe that the bottom quintile average of $32,000 would have more buying power than the original $16,000? I don't like the facts any more than you all do, but they represent what historically happens as wages increase from the bottom up. Inflation will maintain buying power in the next 35 years as likely as it did in the past 35 years. You people will have to be a whole lot smarter than me, or our current administration or our past administrations to change the direction all of this is going. And frankly, I don't believe you all are one iota smarter than me.

Good night, I am going to bed.

A CEO, a Conservative and a Liberal walk into a room. There are ten cookies on the table. The CEO takes nine and whispers to the Conservative.......Liberal's trying to take your cookie!
