Oh barf! He was a good character actor who might or might not have begun breaking into meatier roles as a permanent career change. He was also a drug addict who messed up. Sure it's a tragedy, but as such things go it's a small tragedy. End of story.
WTF? Have celebrity fixations much? He was a selfish messed up individual who made a living portraying things he wasn't and stupidly died leaving three kids that now have no father.
..... WTF: How would it look for his three kids to see your epitaph on their father's tomb: "Here lies a selfish messed up individual who made a living and stupidly died leaving three kids that now have no father." I think you have a f***ed up view of adult love and compassion for our fellow man. To trash on a dead man who obviously felt overwhelmed by his life and possibly took it, I find to be totally gruesome, selfish, jealousy prone, and is precisely what separates us from animals in the forests. Animals act sometimes better than humans, especially on forums. Your utter callousness, and ability for taking cheap shots at dead men is duly noted. Only (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) do that!
The jackass abandoned three children to SHOOT DRUGS? What a selfish SOB. Finding people who can "play act" well, is no great endeavor, or challenge.
His acting career is over, quit pretending. Husky is absolutely correct that he died selflishly, stupidly and left three kids without a father.
There's no 'cheap shot' here; it is what it is and was what it was. A long addicted man OD'd leaving behind 3 kids. Nothing makes him any better or worse than the 38,000+ or so OD's that occur in the US annually. >Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)< I could give a squat what 'you' duly note and you can take your faux 'compassion' for this one individual and shove it. Go cry for the others as well.
Because it isn't HOFFMAN's ACTIONS that should be excoriated in terms of his selfish disregard for his OWN CHILDREN, right? Always easy to spot the poster, with NO KIDS, isn't it?
Yep, and as a matter of fact it would make for a great epitaph and warning for other self-indulgent and irresponsible character actors on the edge of actually breaking into the big time that they can still lose everything by resorting to the needle or powder or crystals or whatever.
..... Sir/Madam/Other: You are discriminating against me because I have no children; does that in any way lose any of my credibility in anything I have said regarding the renowned, distinguished actor Philip Seymour Hoffman? Please explain why I have to have children in order to have any adult and compassionate views of an accomplushed actor and subsequent demise or shut up....
You are not being "discriminated against" ; you are begin ACCURATELY DESCRIBED. There is nothing distinguished about a SELFISH (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) who ABANDONED THREE CHILDREN , he could have been PLAYING/WATCHING MOVIES/HANGING OUT WITH, because he felt that a heroin bender would be more entertaining. Hoffman was a selfish, self-centered, SOB, who didn't deserve the children he had. Your inability to grasp this , which is OBVIOUS to any parent, is the reason it is easy to determine that you are not one.
..... That's because you live in Maine where they tied on an Amendment to their no-abortion bill..."No moviehouses/ theatres/houses of infamy allowed because Mainians will be corrupted by Democratic Hollywood" shortly after Maine seceded from the Union.... But get the video "Capote" and you will see the incredible range this actor had...he stole every scene he was ever in and s/b truly Resting in Peace just on his credits alone.
Nope; which is sort of the point though. Sort of a "See what I did? Don't do the same thing!" admonition to youth . . . not that youth is inclined to listen to or heed such things.
Two quick things, then I'm done with spending another iota of time discussing a selfish self absorbed individual that died to an OD leaving behind three young kids; 1. Your view is not an 'adult' view...more like a adolescent celebrity worship to an troubled individual that deserves no more or less than anyone else. 2. Compassion...huh? Your so called compassion is adolescently misdirected; to a very sick person that selfishly looked after his own addiction and left behind three young children. A compassionate adult would be concerned about the kids. No wonder your world view is what it is.
While I despise what he did to his family, if one seperates the man from the actor, the actor was one of an almost chameleon ability to sink into his roles. His MI3 villain was one for the ages, capote (while a dull film in general) rightfully got him an Oscar, but my favorite turn from him was in Charlie Wilsons War.
congrats Hoffman on being 4 days drug free. whitney houston is coming up on what... 3 years drug free. if you need any support, get with her.
.... 1) No It is discrimination, and if it is myself being 'accurately described' then it is off topic; the thread is about a renowned actor committing suicide turned into a bashing contest for the edification of a small 'groupie conclave' whose main contribution here appears to be thread derailment. You are one of that small group. 2) Are you really giving a complete stranger who committed suicide other alternatives he could have used instead of committing suicide? Really? And all with your questionable, suspect fetish of using big letters? 3) Now you are charging a person you don't know, is dead and unable to defend himself, of being an unfit parent? 4) The question was: "Does 'not having children' discredit my ability to have adult, compassionate views on an accomplished actor's demise" which you have not answered with anything but blowing smoke, as usual. You and your little groupie are embarrassing themselves today, eh? Maybe you should go away and come back to fight another day. Today in this thread we are talking about Philip Seymoue Hoffman and trying to be aware and intelligent enough to honor his life...not his death.
