Now that's really frightening right there - death threats for teaching evolution? I wonder why UK left wingers are so intimidated by Muslims, to the point of granting them their own little "Sharia-governed" reservations. The UK's really lost its pride and looks like it's fastly becoming a nation of pansy boys - a lot of whom would probably let themselves be forcibly converted to Islam rather than seem like a "racist"

    http://www.standard.co.uk/news/imam...kill-him-for-preaching-evolution-6574985.html

The imam of a London mosque who preached that Islam and the theory of evolution are compatible said today he feared for his life and his family after receiving death threats.
Usama Hasan, 39, who also believes Muslim women should be allowed to uncover their hair in public, said: "There are enough nutters out there." He stopped leading Friday prayers at his Leyton mosque after a hate campaign was launched against him.

Dr Hasan also stepped down from his post as a senior lecturer in engineering and information sciences at Middlesex University after protesters disrupted a talk by handing out leaflets against him and saying he should face death for his views. Police advised him to stay away from the Masjid al-Tawhid mosque. The father of four said: "This was incitement to murder, death threats, there are enough nutters out there and I do worry next time I am in a public place or if I lead prayers.

"I have already beefed up security at the house. I am worried about my wife and young children. I do a lot of public speaking and I may need it (security) for the rest of my life."
The Cambridge University graduate believes he could be targeted in a similar way to MP Stephen Timms who was stabbed by radicalised student Roshonara Choudhry.

In an effort to defuse the situation, Dr Hasan has decided to retract some of his "inflammatory" comments about Darwin's theory. He said Islam was "not ready" to have such a debate.

Tensions rose in December when a visiting Saudi cleric told a congregation in Birmingham that anyone who believed in evolution could not lead Friday prayers. In January five men disrupted Dr Hasan as he led prayers at his mosque, saying he was un-Islamic.

In response, the academic, who is also vice-chairman of the mosque, held a lecture entitled "Islam and the theory of evolution", arguing how the religion and theory were compatible. It was disrupted by 20 men who distributed leaflets calling for him to be executed as an "apostate".

His views have also caused a rift among leaders at the mosque, where his father Suhaib Hasan, a Wahhabi scholar, is chairman.

A statement from the mosque secretary Mohammad Sethi - that appeared on extremist websites - said Dr Hasan had been suspended because his lecture resulted in "considerable antagonism" from the community and for his "belief Muslim women are allowed to uncover their hair in public".

His father said on the mosque's website that his son had been the victim of a "vicious agenda" by a "faction of trustees". Maajid Nawaz of the Quilliam Foundation, a think tank on Islamic extremism where Dr Hasan has worked, blamed fundamentalists for trying to "hound" him from his position.

What an incredibly stupidly ignorant interpretation of events, pontificating on a subject so completely foreign to the poster at so many levels.

it's amazing to watch people like you who would cut off your own balls rather than admit the failures of liberal multiculturalism

Sounds like a reaction by right-wing Christian zealots in the conservative Southern U.S., if one of their more enlightened clergyman decided to include evolution in a Sunday sermon.

Those creationists would go batsh!t crazy.

Creationism may be nonsense, but you also seem to forget that Evolution is still a theory.

Funny how those who demean religion, and yet treat scientific theory as if it where a unquestionable word from a god.

    Irony

He didn't say there aren't any problems, only that the OP is willfully ignorant of the realities of them. The OP was also needlessly abusive with it, just like you were.

To few of us have any background on this case to do so intelligently.

As far as I know there is no orthodox dogma within Islam that would apply to evolution. It is not in the Qur'an.

The protesters are Wahabi, that is Salafist. They do not speak for all Muslims, as we saw in Mali. Certainly those people are free to leave at any time if they cannot obey our laws. The progressive and moderate Muslims are free to worship here as the will.

Contrary to common speech, in science, the word "theory" has nothing to do with being uncertain, it means a body of knowledge. Evolution is both a fact and a scientific theory, and will stay a theory no matter how much it is proven. Germ theory of disease is a theory, too.

Yes, but the worst it would get is that Ken Ham or Kent Hovind would debate you until you got so bored that you would rather watch paint dry. Death threats? Seriously, our religious 'wackos' are a bit more evolved.

Parts of evolution are still being debated, like the single origin theory or better known as common decent, or the (LUA)Last Universal Ancestor.

What you're stating is a common misconception about Science, and how science provides absolute truth. i believe the theory of evolution of evolution is the best explanation of the origin of life on earth, but too say there's no room for doubt is unhealthy and pretty unscientific.

You can receive death threats from Muslims for just about anything. Guess why most Muslims won't speak out on those terrorist that are dragging their religion through the mud?

I would consider death threats from these wackados as a badge of honor. As the world gets smaller and people cultures live more closely, vigilance should always be the watch word when it comes to protecting freedom of speech and exchange of ideas. Just like authoritarian statism from the left, and regressive rightwing reaction, political islam needs to be spoken out against.

I'm afraid speaking out against it is futile, they just don't care what you think.
