Why would you think that's my solution? By "we" I meant America. I certainly don't condone any of it.

Iraq is gonna have to eat crow and retain mercenaries like Blackwater.

Their army is utterly worthless and their Iranian masters won't bail them out.

The alternative is getting beheaded by ISIS.

You are wrong. ISIS was birthed by Iraq invasion and subsequent decade of violent occupation.

Who knew wanting a fascist dictator gone is a bad thing.

Oh sorry, It wasn't a treaty it was an "agreement" which is why Bush didn't get it ratified by congress.

Taking that galactic sized leap to Marxist is a most interesting demonstration of how your mind works,

I certainly am not surprised that there are many conservatives who have absolutely no problem with a president reneging on the word and honor of the nation committed by his predecessor in the form of a bilateral agreement of future action.

Kinda like their cherry picking of the constitution they constantly indulge in while whinging about protecting it.

Sorry, I keep forgetting that our system of education has been eroded by Politically Correct Liberal ideology that is not necessarily Marxist but Socialist.

Caliphate rising. We're not gonna be able to stop it. Iraq and Syria are done for.

Bush and Obama have done a great job in removing the dictators of that region who were preventing ISIS from forming.

Congress Should Debate SOFA with Iraq

    By George Will
    March 5, 2009

WASHINGTON -- On Dec. 6, 2007, while she was away from the Senate pursuing the presidency, Sen. Hillary Clinton asked Majority Leader Harry Reid to introduce her bill S. 2426 to prohibit funding for implementing any agreement with Iraq "involving 'commitments or risks affecting the nation as a whole,' including a status of forces agreement," unless Congress has approved such an agreement. The "commitments or risks" language is from State Department criteria for when congressional approval should be sought for international agreements.

Clinton declared it "outrageous that the Bush administration would seek to circumvent the U.S. Congress on a matter of such vital interest to national security." Clinton's co-sponsors included Barack Obama and John Kerry, who now chairs the Foreign Relations Committee.

Last Aug. 1, Sen. Joe Biden introduced S. 3433 to prohibit funding for a "security commitment to, or security arrangement with" Iraq that has not been approved by Congress. Biden was indignant that "Iraq's leaders plan to submit the agreement to their parliament -- but our president does not." Iraq's parliament has debated and ratified the agreement called "On the Withdrawal of United States Forces from Iraq and the Organization of Their Activities during Their Temporary Presence in Iraq."

It stipulates U.S. duties "while conducting military operations" as part of "temporary assistance" to the Iraqi government when acting against "al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups, outlaw groups, and remnants of the former regime." And: "In the event of any external or internal threat or aggression against Iraq that would violate its sovereignty, political independence, or territorial integrity, waters, airspace, its democratic system or its elected institutions, and upon request by the government of Iraq, the parties shall immediately initiate strategic deliberations and, as may be mutually agreed, the United States shall take appropriate measures, including diplomatic, economic, or military measures, or any other measure, to deter such a threat." Sen. James Webb, a Virginia Democrat who co-sponsored both the Clinton and Biden bills, said "any" agreement with Iraq should earn "the explicit consent of Congress."

Granted, the United States has "status of forces agreements" with about 115 countries and most of these SOFAs were created solely by executive actions. The new agreement with Iraq is, however, more consequential than a normal SOFA. Besides, after all the American blood and treasure sunk in Iraq, and after the deep divisions among Americans caused by the way the war was justified and the occupation was conducted, any negotiated arrangement that formalizes ongoing U.S. security commitments or assurances to Iraq should take the form either of a treaty requiring a two-thirds vote of the Senate or a "congressional-executive agreement" requiring simple majorities in both houses of Congress.

So although there was a call for Congress to vote on the SOFA, especially from the Democratic Party majority in both Houses of Congress, President Barack Hussein Obama failed as part of his first acts to secure a Congressional ratification of the SOFA that G.W. Bush secured with Iraq in the last month of his presidency.

You mean 13 months before Bush's term ended, don't you?

Why didn't Bush seek ratification again?

Yes you do seem to regularly forget your system of education, since you repeatedly confuse the two political ideologies.

Like I said, it an interesting insight into how your mind works, not to mention your own ideological entrenchment.

You do realize that America has been a hybrid capitalist/socialist nation for quite a bit longer than you've been alive, don't you? In fact, its ascendency to superpower was almost exclusively under that hybrid system. But of course that is to be ignored by conservatives in order to perpetuate their misconceptions of the American economic model.

No I haven't mixed my ideologies. The fact that Bush did not get a ratification of the SOFA agree was simply because there wasn't enough time left in his presidency. However wasn't it incumbent upon the new administration to follow up. He refused to negotiate with Iraq and unilaterally withdrew from Iraq.

No I didn't miss a thing. The last group of funding from the U.S. went into lining tunnels in Gaza with concrete. Will they do the same again?

Is there really a need to rehash the connection between Socialism and Marxism again?

He had 13 MONTHS, but that isn't enough time for a republican president and a lifetime too long for a democratic president in your part of the world.

apparently revising history is also a talent you have.

Nothing like making completely uninformed and unsubstantiated accusations because your partisan ideology makes them feel like they could right.

    [/QUOTE]

Just like there isn't any need to rehash the "connection" between the tea party and the john bircher Kock brothers. Or the connection between sub atomic particles and homophobia.

amazingly you don't deny the FACT that America hasn't been a capitalist economy for almost 100 years which more or less coincides with American economic and military ascendency.

Wonder why conservatives long for the good ol' days when America was a capitalist second rate power.

The Gaza thing is a whole different production, three sound stages down the way here, and to your left.
How long would $212M fund war in Iraq? About 6 hours.

I care more for the women/children caught in the crossfire, Israel is a totalitarian regime, much like Saudi Arabia and Baharain. I want to establish a "Neutral Religious Zone" via UN support. I've had it to here with innocent civilians being slaughtered by two sides of violence.

thanks for the demonstration of your ignorance of Israel AND what a totalitarian regime AND a theocracy are.

Religion is but a part of the equation, not the whole enchilada.

I'd love to hear more about your neutral religious zone. What is it? what is it designed to achieve? what area does it cover? how is it to be implemented and enforced?

No! You should be thanking Barack Hussein Obama for the current situation in the Middle East. He's held the reins of leadership for the last 6 years.

Some people think that we can stop people from forming their own nations. I wonder how many lives and how much money and time they are willing to spend to oppress people in other parts of the world?

It seems that in this case the Iraqis had sufficient equipment and manpower to counter the IS forces. For some reason they just didn't want to fight them and now the IS forces might execute them. Since the Iraqi soldiers know that's what happened to other Iraqi soldiers they are either complete cowards or else they don't care if they are executed.

Maybe some of the American chicken hawks will go defeat the IS forces. They seem to have an abidance of guts and willingness to fight. We'll give them a ticker tape parade when they return victorious.

We should have outsourced their training to the guys who trained the IS forces. It seems that they did a much better job than we did and for a lot less money. I'm sure that a lot of folks became millionaires skimming off the money.

No one is innocent in wars. You're on one side or the other. If they didn't want to be massacred they should have grabbed some guns and ammo and started fighting like the Kurds did.
