1. Mississippi State 2. Florida State 3. Alabama 4. Michigan State 5. Oregon 6. Auburn 7. Georgia 8. TCU 9. Notre Dame 10. Ole Miss Also Receiving Consideration: Baylor, Kansas State, Ohio State
see here is my problem with subjective polls.... you have 4 teams with 1 loss Ole Miss who beat bama, yet are ranked below bama Oregon who beat Mich State, yet are ranked below Mich State and you have Notre Dame who lost to a top 4 opponent, (a "better" loss than Oregon losing to an unrnaked team and "better" loss than the team that Bama lost to It'll be interesting tomorrow whenever the first selection committee announcement of the season is released to see how much they listen to ESPN and the Herbstreets and Finebaums of the world or will they go with the conference champs against each other I think FSU's last big test is getting past this trap game against a Louisville that, while not quite good yet, is going to be sooner rather than later, with Petrino back at the helm. I don't think Miss State will beat Bama but when AU beats Bama, the SEC west is going to be a clusterfawk. There is a good chance, the SEC will be won by a team with 2 losses
That will work itself out.... either we go undefeated and deserve a shot, or we don't.... question is, does a 1 loss Bama beating Miss State vault them over a (hopefully still) undefeated FSU? I know what you will say.... I also know what the polls say. and again, so long as we stay in the top 4, I'm fine with that... it'll all work itself out in the wash but the problem I have right now is the goal was to "settle this on the field" kind of thing. Here we had Oregon and Mich State "settle it on the field" and Oregon is still ranked lower? When they were both undefeated, Oregon was ranked higher than Mich State Oregon beat Mich State now, when both teams have 1 loss a piece, suddenly, Mich State deserves a top 4 ranking over a team that beat them?
my top 4 currently 1. FSU 2. Miss State 3. AU 4. ND 5. Bama 6. Oregon 7. Mich State 8. Ole Miss 9. Ga
who I think will make win their conferences 1. GA 2. FSU 3. TCU 4. Mich State 5. Oregon 6. But don't forget, ND is still technically independant and very much in the mix if you take the conference champs, you have 6 teams and 4 spots, I think it has to go to The sec the ACC (only if it's FSU and they are undefeated, a 1 loss FSU, even if they are the ACC champs still, doesn't get in) the Pac-12 Notre Dame if FSU loses, you drop the ACC and add the Big x!! champ
Michigan State has a better quality loss than does Oregon. Georgia deserves to be ranked above South Carolina. Ole Miss deserves to be ranked above LSU. Alabama deserves to be ranked above Ole Miss. Head-to-head competition is only one aspect of a team's ranking. Since you don't like "subjective" opinion polls, perhaps you'd prefer the Sagarin Rankings: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/sagarin/ These rankings don't involve human judgment. The computer simply crunches the numbers.
again, that was the 'subjective' part that everyone was trying to get away from. Oregon and MSU settled it on the field.... MSU lost South Carolina has many more losses though.... if they had just one loss, we could use this example again, LSU has multiple losses, it's not even like MSU and Oregon or Bama and Ole Miss I don't think so currently.... it was settled on the field, Ole Miss won. So unless one or the other teams gets another loss, like South Carolina, or LSU, then between the 1 loss teams... let the on the field settle the tie breaker. head to head needs to have a lot more weight if "settling it on the field" holds any importance to you. Subjective favors your team.... on the field favors other teams numbers still shouldn't trump "playing it on the field" AU shouldn't have been anywhere near the national title game due to how they played last year.... a hail mary win over a 5 loss team, a last minute game winning drive against a nobody, kick 6.....losing to a 3 loss team, they were 3 plays away from being a 4 loss team.... yet, they dang sure nearly won it all. here we have teams that have played head to head.... and you still want to rely on subjective measures because your team is a beneficiary of that.
"Settle it on the field" is the battle cry of losers. Any football team can lose a single game to an inferior opponent on any given day. A single elimination playoff tournament is not an accurate method for determining the best team in the league. It has been instituted, and it will surely be expanded, in order to give losers an opportunity for a miracle win and a Cinderella Championship. Sagarin Top 10: 1. Alabama 2. Auburn 3. Mississippi 4. Mississippi State 5. Georgia 6. Oklahoma 7. Baylor 8. TCU 9. LSU 10. Oregon FSU is #13, based upon objective metrics without the subjective aspect of human emotion.
you're making your own argument.... that's why you have teams like South Carolina beating the Ga's, or just some random upset from time to time.. But when you have teams with equal losses.... ie - bama/ole miss (both with 1 loss) and MSU/Oregon (1 loss each) you only want Bama ranked higher because they are your team. what are objective merits.... noone has proven they can beat FSU. Everytime a top 5 team tries.... FSU wins. Bama quit playing FSU as out of conference games because Michigans and Penn States could be beaten, vs an FSU
You have nothing to worry about during the regular season. FSU is on a glide path to a playoff slot. The post-season games are the ones that you should fear.
Bama and FSU have rarely played one another. If you want that to change, then write a letter to Jimbo Fisher. It would seem like a natural matchup. Alabama vs. Florida State. Nick Saban vs. Jimbo Fisher. Mentor vs. protege. Don't count on it, Fisher said Thursday after his pro-am round at the Regions Charity Classic. Someone approached Fisher recently about playing in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff, perhaps against Alabama, in the near future. The new Florida State coach, who worked for Saban at LSU, nixed the idea. "People were saying, `Why dont you open up with Alabama or somebody in that Chick-fil-A Kickoff?' " Fisher said. "I said, `Listen, our big non-conference game, we already have Florida. I dont need to go pick up Alabama or Auburn or Tennessee or somebody like that.' "
if Bama's not worried about playoffs, they will lose.... just like what happened when they didn't worry about OU, a team they were better than, IMO One thing I have really appreciated about FSU over the past two seasons, is no team is being overlooked as a team we should have no problems with. NCState in 2012, woke FSU up. Coach Fisher has done a great job in keeping current players reminded what can happen when you go in thinking the game is a sure thing since then. I'm concerned Lousiville can beat us. I think we are a much better team.... but if the coaching staff can keep FSU understanding that Lousiville can indeed beat us.... we have a much better chance of winning out. We are better than every team left on our schedule.... that doesn't mean that any of them can't beat us if we overlook them. Bama was better than Ole Miss, but they overlooked them. - - - Updated - - - I'm not doubting your story, but I can't find a link to that.... I did find this, however.... http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/23/jimbo-fisher-wanted-alabama-not-auburn-in-bcs-championship/
Here's your link: http://blog.al.com/kevin-scarbinsky/2010/05/dont_expect_another_alabama-fl.html Tell you what... You worry about FSU and I'll worry about Bama. As for Auburn, you should feel fortunate that they were so damned lucky in their last two regular season games last year. Otherwise FSU wouldn't even be in the conversation regarding the 2014 playoff.
don't be upset your team overlooked AU, OU, and Ole Miss, and my team keeps winning. I was at the FSU/UM game where the stadium was chanting "we want bama" FSU wanted them badly.... Bama choked (or ducked us... take your pick)... and they choked again
who is Bama's big out of conference game? I know in 2010, it was Duke.... DUKE. when they still sucked..... lol Mich? Penn state? neither have been relevant other than in preseason hype. ND and UF are just fine as out of conference games. UF is up more than down.... and 2 bad years shouldn't be a reason we can't count them overall. AU isn't always good. Seems they either play for a title, or go 3-8.... it's hit or miss with your rivals too
uh oh, one SEC team defeated another SEC team which was in the top 4. So, what happens when a top-4 SEC team gets defeated by another SEC team? Why there's another SEC team ready to move into the top 4 hmm, lemme see MS State Alabama Auburn FSU what do 75% of the top 4 teams have in common? I know, they all are in the Big 10, ah, no, that's not it They all are in the ACC- nope, wrong again PAC 12? nope S E C S E C S E C S E C S E C
as we who support the SEC understand. We eat our own. It's how it is and thus why the SEC championship is viewed as the true national championship
uh huh.... how did that work out for the SEC last year? FSU run rimshot over Ms state, Ole miss has trouble with AU and Bama. I've never said the 2 goods teams you have aren't really good.... I just said that the other 12 teams sackride the two good teams and circlejerk themselves into top 10 rankings. aTm and SC and LSU had no business in the top 10 but when when MSU ran through top 10 LSU, #6aTm and then pulled an upset on AU... the SEC likes to just say "3 top 10 teams in a row" nm that 2 of them are not in the top 10, and aTm isn't even ranked anymore.
Rimshot? Maybe you meant roughshod? As a drummer, I am familiar with one meaning of the word "rimshot". Perhaps it has other meanings as well? Freudian slip?
I will blame autocorrect on that one.... lol http://deadspin.com/fsu-rb-karlos-williams-being-investigated-for-alleged-d-1650816238 I have those ESPN updates to my phone about FSU. It's notification tone is the ESPN music #do-do-doo.... do-do-doo I swear, it's a pavlovian dog thing but instead of being trained to drool at a bell ringing, I cringe at the ESPN sound now. It came through at work yesterday, my co-worker (a gator fan) and I heard it, we both were "uh oh, what did Jameis get accused of now?" Well, luckily it wasn't Jameis, this time, but I read it to her, she just started laughing.
I have been generally supportive of Jimbo Fisher as both Georgia fans and AJC sportswriters have accused him of covering up for Jameis Winston being paid for signatures. This has obviously been nothing more than an attempt to distract from Todd Gurley actually being busted for selling signatures. I can't support Jimbo any longer. He's really jumped the shark regarding this Williams kid. Karlos was already in hot water for being a member of a gang who offered to sell a fellow student marijuana, and then robbed him at gunpoint when they showed up at his home. Now Karlos has been accused of beating up his pregnant girlfriend, and this is Jimbo Fisher's reaction: On Friday, Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher denied a report by a radio station in Jacksonville, Florida, that Williams would be suspended for unspecified violation of team rules. At the time, Fisher called it "another false report." "There's another false report, and that's amazing how things happen," Fisher told reporters. "Whoever has sources, whoever has rumors, needs to check who they are talking to -- because that is about as far from truth as there is." Fisher also said: "It's funny. That guy, who's a tremendous kid, a tremendous ambassador, I don't even know where that [suspension report] would come from. It kind of caught me off guard like 'Whoa.' Karlos has been wonderful." Jimbo, in my opinion, needs to seek professional psychological counseling. If Karlos Williams is a wonderful ambassador for FSU, then getting the hell out of Tallahassee probably wouldn't be a bad idea either.
no, he wasn't saying the beating was a false report.... Jimbo was responding to the reports that Williams was already suspended..... that THOSE reports (not the abuse report itself) was false. I'm so confused on the Williams issue right now. I can't sort through the real reports and the false reports, is he suspended, going to be, not going to be. This is the crap FSU deals with and everyone just jumps on board the "jimbo is covering up" bandwagon. People are being led to WANT to hate FSU and it's working. is anyone complaining that Treon Harris is starting for UF this weekend or blaming Muschamp for "starting a rapist". Nope, because UFisn't on a national title contending team.... . But ask anyone in the nation (other than FSU fans) if Jameis is a rapist.... they say he is.
I understand that. Still, he didn't have to refer to Karlos as a wonderful ambassador. He could have simply said that he is not suspended. I suspect that Jimbo is losing touch with reality. Are the Tallahassee PD even allowed to arrest FSU football players?
