WP rates Obama's complete flip-flop as an Upside-Down Pinocchio.

    Obama-Univision Town Hall, March 28, 2011:
    Obama-Interview with Univision, Jan. 31, 2013
    Obama-Google Hangout, Feb. 14, 2013
    Obama-Interview with Noticias Telmundo, Sept. 17, 2013
    WP Fact Check results:
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/wp/2014/11/18/obamas-flip-flop-on-using-executive-action-on-illegal-immigration/

And there you have it, the complete flip-flop on how Obama perceives his authority, which only reinforces his recent statement that he'll act unilaterally on immigration and "if" Congress sends him a bill "he agrees with" he'll sign it and nix HIS order. So, he's reversed from "a path through Congress" to a path "despite Congress".

The vast majority of American's do want Obama to act unilaterally. Yes, they want our immigration to work better, but they instinctively know the president acting unilaterally isn't the right way to achieve it. And since they only know he's planning to act, but don't know the details of HIS plan, it only adds to their apprehension. But beyond the issue of immigration they can't help but sense the impact of an action of this magnitude will have our system of checks and balances, the separation of powers and our foundational governing principles. We have system, and despite Obama's seemly endless frustration working within it, he should shelve his "I can't wait" attitude and act responsibly within it.

He's absolutely full of (*)(*)(*)(*). He's on a mission... garner more votes for the Dems, and diminishing the caucasian majority is probably an upside in his mind.

When this goes to the courts, they will play all of these sound bites. After all, he was a constitutional senior lecturer, and so should be an expert on it. If he says it's overstepping his authority, he should know. I am sure the judge would agree.

He was right in 2011. What he is about to do is NOT LEGAL.

It's still going to happen though.

He doesn't care. The Richard Suck media doesn't care. His toadys don't care. He's never getting elected to anything ever again. The entire Republican hegemony won't stop him.

WTF? Why not? Hypocrisy is no bar. Morality is no bar. The Constitution is clearly no bar in the past OR the future.

The Supreme Court already unanimously stopped Obama when he tried to overstep is authority to make recess appointments to the NRLB.
This issue has only to get to SCOTUS for the beat down to happen again. There is absolutely no doubt that the ability to use discretion to
enforce some laws more than others doesn't give King Obama the power to simply disregard federal immigration law altogether.

Yes, people often have to change their position when they come to the realization that those that are supposed to be involved in the process refuse to take part in it. If Congress does not want to do their part the President has every right and the power to do it for them in some cases and this is one of those cases. The Cons need to stop the whining and sit down with the President otherwise he will go forward with his power and the Cons will then have no say in what is installed.

The short term solution is to pass a budget that funds all the government EXCEPT for the mechanism by which Obama will attempt to defy the law.
The long term solution is to get Obama before the Supreme Court to defend his claim that the law doesn't apply to him and his wishes.

Actually it is Legal. What we are talking about is giving a select group of illegals the opportunity to apply for citizenship without the fear of being deported, those that take advantage of it will be safe if they are granted citizenship and those that do not qualify will still be subject to deportation. Nothing illegal in that what so ever and not nearly bad as granting AMNESTY as Ronald Reagan granted to Millions. Once he signs it and it moves forward the Repubs can take it to the SC and see if their claims are true or simply whining on their part.

Do you have even the slightest hope that the Republican hegemony can do this right? They can't organize a two car funeral.

Oh, BOOHOO, the Repubs were never going to address the issue and anyone claiming otherwise is full of it. We are not talking amnesty, no matter how many times your repeat the Lie it will still not be true. Don't like it take to the Supreme Court and fight it, good luck with that.

First off, I did not approve of Reagan's decision, but I still thought the rest of his Presidency was outstanding. I thought his immigration policy was flat out stupid.

Second, I think that rewarding CRIMINALS who ILLEGALLY entered a soveirgn nation is the most hilariously stupid thing in the entire world. It's offensive to those immigrants who wait years for the proper authorization to come to America.

If you break the law, you should be punished, not rewarded. Why do we have laws, anyway? Let's just ditch those.

Immigration reform is not our most pressing matter. Employment for millions of americans having to live on the gutted social safety nets is. But since there is nothing that can really be done with getting people back to work, other than a massive WPA, given our economic model no longer is capable of generating the jobs we actually need, there will be one misdirection after the other, to keep from addressing our more important problem. The repubs can only offer up tax cuts and deregs, which given our model, won't do a damn thing except give the elites more to invest overseas. We are screwed, and all of this other stuff is just theater.

I disagree with the rest being outstanding, some good and some bad, but that is another topic, I only mentioned the Fact that he had done far more than what is being suggested by Obama.
Same old argument, sorry I tune that out when it comes to those that were brought here as a small child or baby and have lived here all their lives, they did nothing wrong. I would also extend that to those that have lived here a decade and have been good people and simply want an opportunity to apply for citizenship.
Oh by the way, I AM a Naturalized Citizen.
We are talking about logic and common sense here, quoting the same old rhetoric simply does not fly with me.
Want to stop the flow of illegals arrest those that hire them, by the way NO ONE IN WASHINGTON WILL DO THAT, ever ask yourself WHY that is?

That's not what he is doing.

You don't understand what is going on. The opprotunity to apply for citizenship isn't part of his proposal. No one can apply for citizenship until they've been a permanent resident first, and this plan doesn't even directly grant these people permanent residence.

What he is doing is much less than what you seem to think, yet he does not have the legal authority to do even the little bit he is doing.

I don't care if it's been done before, if it has, it wasn't legal then either.

I don't mind if you dismiss my argument or not. I am simply someone who thinks that laws should be followed. Why do we even have borders or immigration laws if we just give them citizenship? What a smart idea to flood the job market when unemployment is still in the sh*$ter.

This whole thing is so dumb it's funny.

Wrong again, not about the pressing issue, but that work programs are the only way to bring businesses back up to speed. There are two things that can be done that will get the ball rolling very quickly and neither has been done. One is to treat all goods made overseas by American Companies as imports and tax them as if they were imports because after all that is exactly what they are, Imports. Second Pass a Freakn Budget already, no more excuses no more blame games, get a four year budget worked out and passed, once that happens businesses will have the confidence to invest in R&D and manufacturing and if the first suggestion is in place they will far fewer reasons ($$) to send the manufacturing overseas. You would be surprised how many new jobs would be created by doing just those two things. Now we wait for the usual Con replies saying how unfair the first one is, after all their masters have to make huge profits off the backs of people in third world countries and how demanding they pass a budget is asking too much of the Representatives hire to do so, oh and the usual blaming of the other guy for their own inactions and obstruction. That said: Nothing is going to change, I know it and You know it, we get exactly the government and Nation we deserve, after all we allow it to continue as usual and we support those that ignore the will of the People like the sheep we have become.

Not dismissing it, pointing out that the rhetoric has solved Nothing and will continue to solve Nothing. ONE MORE TIME, the President is not just giving them citizenship, good grief is that too hard for you to grasp, I know you are smarter than that. It only allows those that met certain criteria to APPLY for citizenship and if they Qualify they will be granted it. Oh and AGAIN, we are talking about people that are ALREADY HERE, and have been for many years, no new flood of illegals are going to be joining the market. Jeeez where do you get this nonsense? Do some actual research, by the way going to FOX is not considered "research".

Yea but that doesn't change anything because they are still in the country. Not deported....

And yes it absolutely changes the job market. There are many jobs ONLY available to US citizens.

When did I mention anything about Fox? Are you jumping to conclusions? That's not very mature.

So in other words congress isn't even necessary and a president can do whatever he deems necessary? How is that a winning argument?

    - - - Updated - - -

Reagan had congress's approval. Democrats drew up the bill and they voted on it. Obama is just trying to push it through by himself.

Correct and they have been here all along. For those people or at lest many of them the problem will be resolved for those that do not qualify or are denied they will have to take their changes like the rest of the majority of illegals and risk being deported as they should be.
If only that were so, if employers really cared these people would not be able to get jobs here but since we are talking about people that have been living here for a very long time we can assume they are employed so they really would not be taking any jobs away that they have not already taken away. Once again the only way to resolve that issue is to arrest those that hire illegals and as I said we both know that is Not going to happen and until it does all the talk of fences and more border agents is just that, Talk, because they know that no amount of security on the border will resolve the problem without actually doing something about why they come here.
No I am not say you mentioned FOX, I am saying it sounds like the same old rhetoric I hear over and over and it gets old when one should know that making such statements does not actually address the issues involved here. Time to stop playing the blame game and start doing something to resolve the issue. By suggestions are as follows:
    1) Allow a moratorium from being deported for those that can prove they have lived in this country continuously for over 10 years and those that were brought here as children and have lived here for over 5 years. Allow them 36 months to apply for citizenship and get approved.
    2) Make the process to get a Green Card easier and faster so that those that want to simply work here can do so in a legal way, I would assume that takes care of the vast majority of workers.
    3) Arrest those that hire illegals and fine the heck out of them and for those that refuse to get the message give them time in a prison to reconsider their actions.
    4) Build more double fences and hire more border agents to help seal the border better and while at it ensure that those agents are better equipped and armed to deal with the drug runners coming into the country.
    5) Change the system so that those here illegally cannot draw any sort of Federal assistance nor enroll their children in our schools.
    6) Arrest and deport those that do not want to follow the new system rules and those that repeat it for a third time are subject to a 5 year prison sentence.
You would be surprised how those simple rules if funded and enforced would change the landscape and for the most part resolve the issue. Thing it the border cannot ever be totally closed to those really want to enter illegally, it is simply too long not to mention the thousands of miles of coast line we have, but it will address it in a serious way. You have any solutions than to deport them over and over and over?

Nope, never said that. But what you fail to grasp is that the President does have real Executive Powers that can be used to do some things, you may not like it but that is just the way the system is set up. There are ways to override those orders, that is IF you have enough support, otherwise you will have to bring it to the SC or learn to live with it until you can elect one of your own into the Whitehouse and they can overturn it.
