The Republican meltdown is off and running. Speaker of the House John Boehner’s office responded to the news that President Obama will announce his executive actions on immigration by calling the president a lawless emperor.

Boehner spokesman Michael Steel responded to the news that Obama will make his immigration announcement in Dallas on Thursday night by saying, “If ‘Emperor Obama’ ignores the American people and announces an amnesty plan that he himself has said over and over again exceeds his Constitutional authority, he will cement his legacy of lawlessness and ruin the chances for Congressional action on this issue — and many others.”

Who do Republicans think they are kidding? Boehner and McConnell were never planning on cooperating with the president on anything. Mitch McConnell ran for reelection on the promise that if Republicans won a Senate majority, he would break Obama and force him to do the GOP’s bidding.

The whole idea that Republicans were ready cooperate, but Obama ruined it was a myth. Republicans thought that by winning the midterm election; they could force the president to sign off on their agenda. They have been shocked by the fact that the president has moved to the left. Instead of giving Republicans everything that they wanted, the president and Democrats have geared up for a fight.

President Obama’s speech on Thursday night will be a mushroom cloud that swallows up the Republican Party. Republicans have tried for years to avoid the immigration issues, but the party is deeply divided and being government by an incredibly unpopular position on the issue.

Obama’s executive action, which is well within his constitutional powers, is already triggering an epic meltdown. The Republican camps that are calling for a government shutdown or impeachment are reaching an uncontrollable boiling point.

John Boehner sat on the Senate passed immigration reform bill and refused to allow a vote. The gridlock and obstruction chickens are coming home to roost, and the Republican Party is going to collectively lose its mind tomorrow night.

Obama is still playing chess while congressional Republicans can’t get out their checkerboards.

    http://www.politicususa.com/2014/11...ion-action-calling-obama-lawless-emperor.html

Mr. Easley hits several key points, but there are two main ones-

    1. The GOP has no viable options for "stopping Obama". Impeachment is political suicide.....Government Shutdown the same if slightly less so....and as a poster here at PF cleverly pointed out "How do you de-fund something that doesn't cost any money?" (Or as Stephen Colbert pointed out humorously, the GOP "threat" to de-fund is like parents telling their son to rake the leaves, and if he doesn't... they're not going to buy him a rake. :) )

Variations on the theme of de-funding still come back around to (A) not effecting policy implemented at the USCIS by the Administration or (B) vetoing by the President and a Government Shutdown.....something Mitch McConnell has said numerous times he WILL NOT allow (not after the Ted Cruz Oct. 2013 fiasco).

    2. The President playing chess while the GOP plays checkers.

Obama is using the already existing DIVIDE in the Republican Party against them on immigration. While the Leadership and RNC desperately WANT a comprehensive immigration bill to try to woo Latino voters in 2016.....the Base want nothing more or less than "Kick 'em ALL out and build a Berlin Wall on the Rio Grande"....which is pure xenophobic fantasy

Now, forced to oppose his executive actions (or look weak or be "selling out" their Base), the Republicans will be forced into a hard-line position on immigration that will be very difficult for them to extract themselves from.

After the President acts, how do Boehner and McConnell then try to craft a bill on immigration with even the luke-warm "process to legal status" that some Republicans have been discussing....a "second class citizenship, that's not citizenship" for immigrants currently here. The GOP Base would go nuts over that even bare bones scraps-from-the-table approach..

Obama didn't create tha GOP Civil War...they did. He's just taking the opportunity they made and using it against them. And aside from a lot of whining and complaining and name-calling...

there doesn't appear to be a damn thing the Republicans can do about it....except, as noted in the title of the piece....."melt down".

How do you know impeachment is political suicide?

Elections have consequences. The Dem Party decisively lost the 2014 mid term elections because the average Democrat Party voters is ANGRY at Obama and at the Dem leadership; otherwise they would have gotten off their duffs when both Obama's and both Clintons begged them -- begged I say! -- to vote.

So elections have consequences and the GOP won and the Dems lost, and so Emperor Obama will begin feeeeeeeeeeeeling -- and leftwingers so very often seem to be all about feelings -- the resulting political pain in the not so distant future. Oh and in 2017 the GOP president will use Phone and Pen to undo most of what Obama has done. Now won't that be nice?

    One clue? This guy-

By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Talk of impeachment was cooked up by a White House desperate for something to rally Democrats ahead of November’s elections, House Speaker John A. Boehner said Tuesday, flatly ruling out any action on the controversial suggestion.

“We have no plans to impeach the president. We have no future plans,” Mr. Boehner said. “Listen, it’s all a scam started by Democrats at the White House.”

So why is the Right so upset today....if it's going to be a "GOP permanent majority" (like Tom Delay promised back in 2004)....in 2017????

Shouldn't you left wing types wait until the Republican led Congress actually takes over?

Remember.....any meltdown is the direct result of Obama's actions. I personally think Obama is lashing out at the American people because he's pissed about the election. He has no intention of working with Congress or the Senate come January. He continues to believe he's been elected Dictator. Not so.

Here's how Obama thinks working with the other side means: "You Republicans send me something EXACTLY like I want, and I'll sign it. Otherwise, forget it." Sorry.....that ain't how it works and it sure as heck didn't work that way for Bush or any other president, for that matter. He has definitely "poisoned the well" now. You cannot state that you're going to work with the other side....and then the first thing you do is intentionally (*)(*)(*)(*) them off by acting alone on something as important as Immigration.

Why was the Left upset by their massive mid-term election losses . . . if those loses were actually unimportant and did not matter? People, eh?

it's called a representative form of govt.

The people decided that the GOP as majority in the Senate and House is what they want as it reflects their desires. When we had 2 years of liberal utopia we kept hearing that the country wanted liberalism and had the ACA crammed through as well as cash for clunkers, caulkers and stimulus.

Now the people have had a taste of liberals and said no thanks. Why was the voice of the people loud and clear in Nov 2008 but not Nov 2014?

Contrary to what our intrepid "progressive" pundit Jason Easley has to say, it's Obama who is playing checkers. Now Emperor Arbitrary Executive Fiat has given Republicans all the political cover they need to kill Harry Reid's pipe dream of getting a big omnibus spending package passed this year (something Reid warned Obama about, to no avail) along with any comprehensive immigration reform bill that the Emperor would arbitrarily change and enforce on his imperial whim.

Next year, the only legislation the Megalomaniac in Chief and his party will see is a raft of politically-disadvantageous Republican-sponsored legislation that will paint them into an obstructionist corner. Furthermore, Obama and Democrats will now be saddled with facing the political consequences of focusing on an issue that isn't the top priority of the American people and ignoring the objections of a plurality of Americans by granting temporary amnesty to a bunch of illegals while the economy and employment are still floundering (thanks in large part to the "progressive" Babeuvian Illiterati's nihilistic preoccupation with fundamentally transforming the United States).

Congratulations King Checkers. You're made the GOP road to controlling both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue in 2016 so much easier. Keep up the good work!

    elections have consequences.

however, the republicans claiming that they represent the American people when they garnered less than 30% of voters is a tad disingenuous.

It should be fun to watch as the Republicans come to the realization that opposing is so much easier than governing.

And THEN what will they do...specifically?

    - - - Updated - - -

Well, it's good you're agreeing the GOP is melting down....especially since they can't actually DO anything to stop what they are whining and complaining about.

    - - - Updated - - -

Fine....again...tell me SPECIFICALLY what Boehner and McConnell will do to "stop Obama" or "threaten Obama" to make him not use executive action on immigration?

    What's their move?

    - - - Updated - - -

We always knew that....how do you expect people who hate the Government...to be able to govern???

What you seem to forget is that the mid term elections repudiated Obama and his policies. Americans are sick of him and understand what a weasel he is. But Obama seems to think that Americans still love him. LOL Man, is HE in denial!!! He is jeopardizing your party in 2016 and raising his middle finger to the people. His FIRST loyalty is to the American people----not foreigners. He, himself, said that if he did this, it would make him an emperor. The Republicans will do what they can for the next 2 years, but the American people will finish off the Democrats in 2016. You had better reign your emperor in. There is no royalty here.

oh it would be, an impeachment proceeding is the only hope the Democrats have in 2016 and Boehner and McConnell know that which is exactly why they will not do it. There will be a lot of pissing and moaning among the Republicans and a few far righters like Cruz will play to their base. At the end of the day though Obama's actions are just a deferred deportation which will go away when he does in 2016. The GOP just won th4e Senate and expanded theirhold on the house by not being jerks while the Dems came off as jerks, so the core of the GOP knows that and won't let Obama goad them into doing something stupid. I just expect a lot of noise from the 24 hour news cycle for a few weeks then some payback in January but nothing major. Watch and see

    So

    1. You can't actually name anything the Republicans can do.

    2. "It'll be a Romney Landslide in 2016 and Tom Delay permanent GOP majority!" Right?

    - - - Updated - - -

Pretty much it. "pissing and moaning" and "a lot of noise" for a few weeks.

Then Fox will start up the "War On Christmas" and distract the Right. :)

    I rest my case

McConnell’s remarks also serve to underscore his and other Republican leaders’ effort to avoid any whiff of the threat of a government shutdown when funding runs dry on Dec. 11. Instead, top Republicans are urging measured responses from their rank-and-file, hoping to avoid impeachment and shutdown talk as they mull how precisely they will respond to Obama’s actions and balance the demands of conservative Republicans agitating for a fiery confrontation.

“My belief is you can’t capitulate, but you need to push back smartly,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). “If you overreact, it becomes about us, not about President Obama.”

I don't know. Go ask someone who claims to have the power to predict the future.

I just hope they plan to act within the guidelines of our constitution, unlike our current president.

We've been over this, Cap'n - unless you can provide me with all the specifics in the Emperor's latest proclamation I can't respond with specifics myself.

However, I have already pointed out to you what His Majesty can expect from the GOP this year and next. Not only do elections have consequences, so does flipping off the American people and their representatives in Washington, but...

I can I can, they can selectively fund the government while choking Obama's pet agencies like the EPA. If he refuses to sign them the he is the one doing the shutting down, if he signs them they will be on a shoestring budget lol

Was it "The Republicans will de-fund ...er...something....and if Obama vetos it, it'll be a Gov't Shutdown that Mitch McConnell keeps saying he doesn't want....and unlike the last two times Republicans shutdown the Government...THAT time the American people will support and love them for it ....and unlike the last two times....the Democratic President will surrender....because it's completely different THIS time, we know...."

"Oh, and despite what we were saying just a few months ago about how 'Amnesty is a ploy by Democrats to get millions of new voters and thus destroy Republicans with illegal voters'....NOW we're saying "Amnesty will destroy Democrats and millions of voters will become Republicans."?

    That about it?

And how did threatening a government shutdown work for Republicans the LAST time they tried it?

How do you figure that this executive amnesty doesn't cost any money? The processing of 5 million illegals will cost a lot of money. It seems that's right up the Congress's alley to not provide funds for that.

Well it does not seem to have worked with Cruz, he is busy running his mouth with talk of defunding a piece of the government at a time until the Dems give in or the government is shut down. He has shut the government down once and it is obvious he believes he can get away with it a second time. Want to talk about regaining in your boy, the GOP better get him hogtied and duct tapped and locked in a closet because if Cruz gets his way the GOP will be crushed by the American People in sort order and the odds of them ever rising from the ashes are slim to none.
