(CNN) - A fraternity fraught with scandal quickly shut down a chapter in Oklahoma when a video surfaced that showed members singing a racist chant that used the n-word.

The video shows a group of young white students chanting the n-word loudly and boisterously while riding on a bus.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon's national chapter shut down the chapter Sunday night, suspended all of the chapter's members and threatened to remove those responsible from the fraternity for life.

In the video, the students are heard chanting, "There will never be a ni**** in SAE. You can hang him from a tree, but he can never sign with me."

"SAE" stands for Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. "Sign with" means join the fraternity.

"I was not only shocked and disappointed but disgusted by the outright display of racism displayed in the video," SAE National President Bradley Cohen said in a statement.

That in 2015 this type of vile racism is alive has no moral justification - nothing justifys this yuppie hate chant.

 

Good on the individual that captured & uploaded this. I only hope that we don't see any apologies from these young men in the near future. Own your actions... hell, defend them if you feel suitable. Time to stop hiding in the shadows while giving people the impression that you're merely a figment of people's imaginations.

 

These sick little jerks should be kicked out of school too. There is no place for that kind of behavior.

Oh for sure. That's a given. Bottom line- not a damn thing will happen to any of them. But at least people know who they are and what they are about.

They will just apologize and say they didn't mean it. You know that's what's going to happen. They'll say it was just a joke "taken out of context" like they always do.

 

I would hope that people would have a bit more common sense. This is pretty (*)(*)(*)(*)ing bad, not much room for interpretation... but im guessing a few members will surprise( or not) us with some lovely opinions.

 

It's probably in their best interest to keep quiet. It's not like we know their individuals names, or am I mistaken?

 

Sounds like the SAE national took care of the problem. I think shutting down the local chapter and suspending the members while investigating is reasonable.

 

A layer of it, yes.

 

Their webpage actually shows black members. But overall, they still uphold many of the old south mentality from where this frat formed.

 

The internet is pretty good at figuring that (*)(*)(*)(*) out , wont be long IMO. All one would have to do is start by looking at the pledge list for that frat in OU the last few years.

I would hope so too. But when is the last time there were any real consequences for things like this? The chapter will stay closed for a few months, there will be an "investigation", and it will quietly reopen. End of story.

yes, but the internet is also good at thinking they got it figured out and blaming the wrong person. For instance.... a frat member on the bus NOT chanting it..... a frat member who wasn't even on the bus....

they will all be treated the same by the internet....

It's amazing how desperate people are to make sure those evil white people are obeying the laws of political correctness. How dare they not embrace other races, even though other races are free not to embrace them in return. Oh the outrage!

 

While I don't agree with the fraternities alleged racist rant, I do get a kick out of liberal hypocrisy.

Liberals are the first ones to whine about their 1st amendment right of free speech when it fits their agenda.

It's free speech when they want to burn an American flag but not when it's something they don't want to hear.

 

They didn't check their privilege; it was checked for them.

But simply banning a fraternity isn't enough. Those jerks have no business being around decent people who want to learn in peace.

 

I agree, but that won't happen. It'll blow over and the chapter will quietly reopen. And it will all be spun as a big misunderstanding. Just wait- it's coming.

 

Have these young men been arrested for their chant? Why are you talking about free speech?
