Marijuana wasn't introduced to the Americas until Colonial times--it was originally from Asia. Tobacco (which the tribes also sell) is an American plant. Marijuana isn't. It's an import that the white man brought over (primarily for use to make fiber as hemp).
You make an excellent point. I think Native Americans have been smoking to much of the white man's whacky weed. With so many Native American tribes jumping on the "reindigenous" movement, wanting to get back to their roots and abandoning the European white man ways, it's hypocrisy for the Native American to go hippie and go into the marijuana business. Indian tribes should stick to being Native Americans, just stay in the tax free cigarette smoke shops business.
