Okay, I'll post another one . . . Another of my absolute FAVORITES (not to mention that Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan were two of the BEST guitarists in the whole world) Let's rock! Woot! I knew I could count on you to come through with some awesome tunage, TD! - - - Updated - - - I agree. I like the Clash version better too.
IMHO this is the greatest cover ever since this artist made it his signature song though he didn't write it. This is the song that made JMH the legend.
And I really like this Metallica cover too. Original . . . Whiskey in the Jar ~ Thin Lizzy Cover by Metallica - - - Updated - - - Who was the original artist, TD?
Love Buzz ~ Shocking Blue I think the cover is MUCH better. Love Buzz ~ Nirvana
Don't recall. I know Hendrix didn't write it: here is the wiki on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey_Joe
The wiki link says "The Leaves" did the earliest known recording . . . and here it is. It sounds a LOT different than Jimi's version. I like Jimi's much better.
My two favorite guitarists again. I really have a difficult time deciding between these two. Both were so great. Original . . . Little Wing ~ Jimi Cover . . . Little Wing ~ SRV
Really anything by Jubyphonic The original:
Jubyphonic is a youtaite, or a person that covers Japanese songs on youtube. She actually recently went "pro" in the sense that she's trying to raise money up to become a singer full time. I don't know much about Yim but I do like his songs.
Did you know that Jimi Hendrix and also The Beatles did covers to that one too? It's a great song. ^^^ It sounds like The Beatles were messing around a bit. Lol. I can't for the life of me figure out which of the Beatles is singing here. Is it Paul?
Well, even though I've never heard of them and I'm not very familiar with the Japanese music scene, I appreciate your participation and I'm always interested in hearing new music, so thanks.
No problem. I like it when these kinds of threads start up. It's a great way to meet people and talk to others about something other then politics. I hope your thread takes off.
House of the Rising Sun is a VERY old song apparently. After doing some research, although people think The Animals performed the original, that is not the case. Here is a recording from 1937 (yikes!) by a woman named Georgia Turner. Interesting, right? No music here, just singing.
One more before I have to get back to work. The original by Velvet Underground The cover by Cowboy Junkies . . . I think I like the cover better. Margo Timmins has a hauntingly beautiful voice.
Here is a really great cover. Cortez the Killer ~ Neil Young Cortez the Killer ~ Grace Potter and Joe Satriani (You MUST listen - this is SO good I adore this cover.)
White Rabbit ~ The original by Jefferson Airplane and Grace Slick . . . Cover by Grace Potter
Mississippi Queen Original by Mountain ~ Cover by Zakk Wylde ~
The Original Roger Daltrey's cover
These girls from Mexico are fantastic. Yes their voices are no match against the raw sound of the original however, at 3:29 the "prayer" in the song has a ingenious approach. The instrumentals on the other hand can not be discerned from the original, "Enter Sandman". AND, for being Spanish speakers, the mastery of the English language is phenomenal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1boUYB9LFJY&list=RD1boUYB9LFJY#t=55 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1boUYB9LFJY&feature=player_detailpage Trying to imbed but not working right . . .
