    It's a small rod perm

Yep.....I can attest that perming straight hair does not result into those consistent curly locks.

Actually, it is probably a stack perm, probably using blue rods, and her hair was blonde like many kids are, it will almost always turn dark as you age. Her hair if straightened would be just past her shoulders, and is mostly one length which accounts for the volume she can get on the top. Combine all that with a little back combing and that hair stands right up. (I have been a hairstylist for 41 years )

True about hair turning darker as you get older and I thought of that. I was not a hair stylist as long as you but to maintain it is the problem, not that it could not be done. A wig would be much easier. Where you might be right is how far back her hairline starts.

You make a good point. We're not quite sure yet if this person has 1/1000th of 'blackness' in her blood yet...but does this really make a difference in a world that 'accepts' changes in sex...other identity "realities"?
Geezus, we've accepted just about everything now, haven't we...how much more is there to go?

Aren't we lead to believe that 'white' people are supposed to (demanded??) completely understand the role, life and 'identity' of black people? NO? Really? Then she should be allowed to stay!!! Some white people might be qualified...right?

Well, President Clinton was proclaimed to be our first black President by Toni Morrison.

Exactly, wigs will cover more of a forehead like a cap. My wife and I are close to retirement. I'm setting it up now to sell my salons within the next two years

It's not as much about her claiming to be black, is that she very well have lied on her college applications to be accepted and receive federal assistance .
She could have easily done great work for black Americans by not having to lie. The first president of the NAACP was white and I believe the NAACP was formed by whites.

    I detest liars

Good for you. I had originally gone into it with my wife (at the time) around the same time you started with the same intent and could have made a lot of money as I was very good but circumstances change my course so now I code software for a global company and only do hair on the side for acquaintances.

I'm not seeing hysteria. Mostly laughter. I know I find this hilarious. And how could anyone NOT find it funny? Well, unless one is an Angry Black Guy. Or projecting.

What the heck does this even mean? Certainly it has little to do with the OP.

What we have here is a member of the leadership itself masquerading as something she is not. What this has to do with all Blacks is unknown, and certainly out of the scope of the OP. I mean, I see what you're trying to do here, divert the discussion by widening the circle, as it were, but it's not working.

So far, all your post has done is discuss - well, a lot of things. Except the OP. The OP is to Obama as Lindsay Lohan is to sobriety. That is to say, nothing.

Which is admirable, to be sure. I have zero problems with anyone of any race joining the NAACP. Nevertheless, there's three problems here that you're not addressing, and I suspect deliberately so:

    1) Some whackadoodle pretends to be something she's not in order to do what she's doing - especially disturbing when there's no reason for her to lie about it. Unless she thought that by assuming her new racial identity, she could climb the leadership ladder much higher than if she wasn't black. In any even, this woman who is obviously a close relative to Baron von Munchausen is delusional. And the leadership of the NAACP is going along with it, apparently.

    2) She's likely making up racial attacks on herself and her circle in order to build up her victim status. This rather hurts her cause.

    3) Her hairline is seriously messed up.

Try discussing the actual OP. I know you can post better than that.

No. I said there were some people who started hurling slurs against blacks (in general), NOT the women, even though the woman was the topic of the article. No one is defending her actions, no one is attempting to justify her actions. She lied and is suffering the repercussions. However, to use this topic as another springboard for more implied or implicit insults against blacks can be accurately described as racist, which is a favorite tactic of the right.

The woman appears to have mental issues. Nonetheless, she did an excellent job as president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP. No one can fault her tenure. To that extent, did the the end justifies the means? The only people here circling wagons are "whites" who will use any and every opportunity to denigrate blacks, in this case for accepting a person who says they are black, as being black.

I have no problem with any one wanting to adopt another culture than the one they was born in, and most on this thread that you are criticizing probably feels the same way
the problem is why does she feel the need to lie about her race to do so? does she feel she needed to so to be fully accepted into that adopted culture? what does that tell you about that culture that you have to be a certain race to be accepted into that culture?
does a black person need to lie about them being white to be accepted into white culture? would you call that culture racist if that was the case?

    The LGBT analogy appears to be another attempt to drag in something totally unrelated into the topic. I don't know what is worse here, the lady who lied or the Pavlovian effect such as incident has on the right? Now, as a matter of fact, the NAACP has responded to this incident, to wit;

I'm glad to see they are taking the "high road" (unlike the political right) on this issue considering they are the ones most affected by this.

Since the NAACP was founded by whites does it really make a difference whether she is black or white. I thought folks were judged by their works.

most if not all Transgenders don't lie about them being born a different sex than they wanted to be
Caitlyn/Bruce never lied that once he was a man so to be accepted as a women

I have two questions did her lying about being black helped her to get the positions she did at the NAACP and at the university?
and why did she feel the need to lie about her race to start with? did she feel she wouldn't be fully accepted and treated the same in her adopted culture if they knew she was white?

    - - - Updated - - -

why did she feel they need to lie about her race then? did she feel that she wouldn't be fully accepted if they knew she was white? did she use her ability to convince others she was black so to get positions in the NAACP and the University

That's a good question, but you will have to take that one up with her I can't answer it for her.

You are asking a question that none one here is qualified to answer, (other than an opinion) considering that this appears to be a mental health issue. However, you bring up a good point though, why all this sudden right wing concern about this incident? Is the right now tearing themselves apart because a person lied? (politicians lie all the time) Are they concerned about the woman's mental health issues? Are they concerned about the effect this has on the the NAACP, blacks and/or Spokane? I'm getting some severely mixed messages here.

If the real question here is who or what defines race and culture?, then come out with it.

    1) That would be your opinion. As you are hardly qualified as a psychologist and have no proof to back up your claim, I will reject it. Furthermore, I see this as your attempt to drag the transgender controversy into something completely unrelated.

    2) I only know what I have read. I am not a spokesperson for the NAACP or Howard University and will not hazard a guess without more facts, which is something lacking here.

reverse the roles lets pretend it was a black lady that claims she is white and gets a position and an predominately white organization and a job that predominately white people hold
you would use that as an indictment of that organization and the employer for the black lady to feel they need to lie about her race to fill those positions

Evidently baldfaced lying is now acceptable to the left. The woman is a serial liar, from the fake hate crimes to her son (brother) to her claims of living in Africa. She did hit all the buttons though, she was black, her parents and husband abused her, she was once raped by someone who was too rich to prosecute, the KKK and the Aryan Nation are out to get her, she was born in a teepee to a family that hunted with bows and arrows, hence the Native American element in her ancestry.

    The ends justify the means.
