So does this mean Elizabeth Warren is against gay marriage? Oh yeah that Native American thing with her was fake.

So if a Native American bakery refuses to bake a cake for a gay wedding they can refuse and tell the federal government where to shove it? It looks that way. I have a feeling we may start seeing alot of Native American/Christian businesses if word gets out.

There won't be any outrage from the left. They only get riled up about this kind of thing when it's white Christians.

The push for acceptance of gays is relatively new. This video now would be considered "homophobic" I am sure.

Maybe you needed to do a bit of research OP. It appears that there are people fighting for gay equal rights within the nations...

So it seems when those well intentioned missionaries beat Native American children for speaking their native tongues, they also forced their Christian bigotry down their throats as well

So what? Why should I care? Why is this newsworthy?

Why should I care what a bunch of natives do? They have their own government with their own laws, they can do whatever they want.

Why are you pushing this crap into my face all the time? I just don't care. I don't care what teh gheyz do or don't do. It just doesn't register on me one way or the other.

Except when they come whining to me about their rights, and I can clearly see they've just been beaten to a pulp - THEN I care. And if it's in my own country and I can do something about it, I will.

Other than that, man - how can I say this.... don't waste time bringing stuff to my attention that I can't do anything about. I'm powerless over the way Native Americans choose to run their lives, and raise their families, and organize their politics.

I say, let the ghey natives take care of their own issues. It's their battle, not mine. I have no influence over their government, there's nothing I can do, and therefore I'll keep my mouth shut lest someone thinks I'm trying to interfere.

The 'Two-Spirit' people of indigenous North Americans
    http://www.firstpeople.us/articles/the-two-spirit-people-of-indigenous-north-americans.html

Two-spirited people don’t all define themselves in the same way. Many say they embody both male and female characteristics, and that such a role was recognized and honored by their tribes before colonization. Others might identify as gay when they’re around outsiders.

Gay Native Americans Rediscover ‘Two-Spirit’ Identity

“Homophobia was taught to us as a component of Western education and religion,” Navajo anthropologist Wesley Thomas has written. “We were presented with an entirely new set of taboos, which did not correspond to our own models and which focused on sexual behavior rather than the intricate roles Two-Spirit people played. As a result of this misrepresentation, our nations no longer accepted us as they once had.”

Re-read my post quote and your own. Only a small number of "people fighting for gay equal rights within the nations". There are 3 reservation near where I live, they don't do "gay marriage".

There seems to be some changes going on within the tribes, just as there has been with many of the states. I'm not sure how this will play out over time. I have no problem with these tribes having their own rules (though I don't know how the tribes themselves might handle a gay couple married according to US law). I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be not much of an issue. Most of these tribal leaders seem pretty reasonable.

So Native Americans seem to be at about the same place as the rest of the country - some nations allow gay marriage, others do not. I imagine as the older generations die off it will become more accepted, just like other parts of the country.

Or because the impact of Native American cultures not recognizing gay marriage is slim to none and especially when compared to the prevalence of Christians businesses compared to Native American businesses. Plus, I believe a Native American's ability to discriminate is only applicable if we're talking about a same-sex marriage or a cake store on Native American territory in which case the "liberals" don't have the legal right to intervene, just like if we were talking about the laws of another country.

The bigger and more interesting point is the one that is made in the links in my previous posts. The Native Americans revered the tribal members that displayed tendencies that we now refer to as gay/homosexual up until the time the missionaries twisted their beliefs.

Here is a pretty comprehensive list of all tribes a good number allow SSM outright or make it legal in the tribe if its legally a marriage in the State or in a jurisdiction where the marriage is performed but the 11 Tribes are in fact the minority of all the tribes overall.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_under_United_States_tribal_jurisdictions

So I don't know why the homophobia of the minority of tribes should be considered an argument against SSM, and doing some checking with a friend of the family in Cherokee Nation, who is a Tribal Elder now stated contracts and documentation between the parties say for estate sharing and the like were upheld just jot marriage and no religious ceremony for same-gender couples is banned. In fact they can get indirectly all the same rights and be openly a couple as long as its not with a marriage certificate. But they do add a SSM performed outside the tribe would still apply to Federal and State laws that apply which was done also in several cases as in on a reservation they have various legal contracts legal on the land and the couple was also married under State law when legal and said marriage considered valid but not recognized by the tribe. Its quite complicated.

I've given enough links and history tells us that there have always been homosexuals. Not at all difficult to understand that the same missionaries that abused children when they spoke their native language, rammed their fanatical two cents into every aspect of the Native American culture and belief system.

Madeup nonsense from the LGBT propaganda machine.

    - - - Updated - - -

You haven't provided an iota of proof that Native Americans accepted it before Europeans arrived.

A tiny handful of people doesn't make a "movement" with NO total numbers given, not when the largest tribes reject gay marriage. Tail wagging the dog.

I find your post laughable and pathetic at the same time. Are you denying that there were Native American homosexuals or that they were readily accepted?

Trying to claim this is some how relevent... a waste of everyones times.

The tribes have the right to govern themselves. They are doing so.

Making this out to be a victory for the anti-gay movement is pretty pathetic. When the court rules in favor of same sex marriage the vast majority of the united states will have legal gay marriage.

And here's a clue for you. If these tribes people don't want to be under the rule of the tribal nations...they can leave and get citizenship under US law.

    So keep trying.

Not sure about the Europeans effect on it, but in most tribal cultures, the two-spirit were fully accepted. The tribal roles may have been different from the standard warrior, but they were not ostracized or cast out.

Exactly Native Americans are unique they all share dual citizenship as tribal peoples of a given indigenous nation and also of their States and Nation its complicated but in the end they all are Americans so they can always defer to the laws of the nation and their states regardless of the tribal bans. The article is right of course the Supreme Courts decision will have no effect on Tribal Laws when they conflict which will only effect a small minority of tribes, only eleven.
