So I guess that ends the "confusion" over his motive, right? Maybe Republicans can admit what we've known for days: the shooting wasn't a liberal attack on Christians, it was an act of right-wing domestic terror. Roof credits the Council of Conservative Citizens for his "awakening," and the hastily-typed diatribe features themes which sound remarkably similar to the comments section of mainstream conservative websites.

Seems the lefty narratives used in recent cases that stoked racial hatred and attacks on whites (From Chris Lane to cops to knockout game attacks) has triggered him. Doesn't change or excuse what he's done, but shouldn't be a total surprise some moron felt the need to square up. No doubt we'll see more.

Also, it seems strange to me that a person who did not finish school could write this stuff. Full sentences, good grammar, etc

Yeah he doesn't seem like an Elliot Rodgers manifesto writing type. Frankly, he seems like a dummy. I doubt he actually wrote anything more than forum rants.

Maybe he subscribed to "keep your friends close but your enemies closer". Maybe what I read was true...that some girl he liked pushed him aside for a black guy. And there's also the element of an unpopular guy obtaining notoriety by committing a heinous crime. Unlike many mass killers, this jerk did not turn the gun on himself, so just maybe there will be more answers.

"I hate the sight of the American flag." --- Dylann Roof

The left sure can't call this guy a TEA Party person. He sounds more like a lefty.

So let me get this straight.

Those on the "right" whatever that really means, are seemingly trying to blame
    a) drugs and or doctors (or quacks whatever)
    b) liberal conditioning and/or racial saber rattling?
    c) Obama? Lol maybe I just saw this once, probably not popular thought.

Those on the left want to blame:
    a)Guns
b)Racism and/or a real pathology that exists en mass in this country
    c) The influences developed out of the above pathology

Would it be fair to say you are all correct? That this doesn't happen because of one thing. That it takes the combination of all these things to develop a condition to mold this boy into what he is and to push him to do what he did.

Also, you are all wrong in singling out any of these reasons above any of the others.

But mostly, singling out any or even all of these reasons above the individual (who is in no doubt a combination of his genetics and influences and all individuals are).

Why is blame on anyone but this individual necessary in either direction.

Do those on the right think they are doing anything inherently different than those on the left are doing?

There are people on both sides of this argument that have some sense and blame the individual.

Attempting to reduce this to a political divide is just silly.

By turning this argument into what it is turning into, on both sides, many are just reinforcing the conditions that allow this sort of individual to become more common to begin with.

The conditions of blame, reinforce the conditions of hate, which reinforce the likelihood of an unstable individual to act out on developed ideology.

No more responsibility can be put on liberals than conservatives.

    Ideas are obviously dangerous.

Has anyone else noticed that with the reduction of national borders, state borders and Cold War power structure, we are reverting to a a very very old world structure of tribalism, religion based conflict and moral intrusion? And those things are not resigned to liberals or conservatives, but both sides are guilty of exasperating these conditions.

Want to blame something for these conditions? Blame the internet.

Nothing has been more causal in the disintegration of established world order.

The institutions that used to be responsible for minimizing irrational conflict are disappearing or at least taking a back seat to the free spread of ideas.

"order" is taking a back seat to "chaos" in the most frightening way.

Of course I am not suggesting reverting to a pre-internet world. I think there are certainly more positives than negatives in that regard.

But as the institutions of world order drastically change there is obviously going to be a long period of upheaval and ideological forces going head to head with one another in order to establish new systems of order.

All sides are to blame because all sides are responsible for creating the conditions that have developed individuals like this.

It was EXPECTED by academics and philosophers following the fall of the Soviet Union.

I don't think people really realized how important that "war" was in terms of maintaining world order. And that does not just mean in other places in the world but in the United States as well.

Where people's pride in being American might have overruled their pride in being from a particular state which might have overruled an individuals ideology which in tern might have overruled a persons religious beliefs, this is all no longer the case.

Of course the link between what I am talking about and this South Carolina incident are many steps removed from direct cause and effect, but the dominoes can certainly be traced in all directions as far as I am concerned.

Has anybody found it kind of strange that Dylann Roof's manifesto doesn't once mention Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Fox News, Republicans, GOP, NRA, gun, 2nd amendment, etc...

There is nothing that ties this crazed whacked out person to the right.

But what I find quit interesting is that under patriotism he says "I hate the sight of the American flag."

That sounds more like someone on the left who steps on or burns the American flag.

Why do you insist upon pushing such a ridiculous point? Do you think by doing so, you will make it true?

I think we can safely assume that we would be hard pressed to find Progressives or Liberals that have Confederate plates on their vehicles.

I have no idea which party this (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) supported, if any, but something tells me he did not vote for Obama.

The manifesto, whether or not it is from the killer, reads exactly like some rant from an addict of "Stormfront!"
Nothing in there that seems unusual from that sick blog site!
Roots may be nothing more than a brainwashed youth from a "storm front" kind of crazy "fraternity!"

It certainly wouldn't be the first time!

But what's the difference if it was about race? When you say race, what you are really discussing is culture anyway. And cultural divide becomes stronger when these incidence are blamed on opposing cultures.

There are 2 ways to remove "racism".

    a) By Fascist force (which really only controls and suppresses racism...ie see the fall of Yugoslavia)
    b) Time. Where in actions on both sides CHANGE, and and convince the opposing side that perhaps they were wrong.

Now, while I don't like fascism, I certainly sometimes feel like being a fascist. I sometimes feel like man, if only there were a really intelligent dictator, a Charlamaigne a Napoleon, just with compassion and you know, ideas based on truth and justice etc..

But of course I wouldn't really want to live in those conditions unless i was the Emperor. So yea...

Every time something like this happens, instead of both sides coming together, both sides attempt to blame the other, just reinforcing and worsening the hate and vitriol that one side feels towards the other.
