Really don't care. You've already admitted to being a racist and now you are supporting the Confederate flag. Put two and two together, bring the flag down. Represents nothing but hate and bigotry.

You don't care that you're supporting the governments right to unilaterally and unconstitutionally ignore, invalidate and change the constitution?

That says far more about you that it does about me. Don't cry when the government does it again.

And like I said we're ALL racist... including you.

The problem being, of course, that federalism is no issue with either territorial legislation or admission of new states per A4S3; so if there's any reason to believe Congress could not outlaw slavery in the territories and refuse to grant statehood to any territory inclined towards slavery, you have yet to provide it.

Typical authoritarian. Tell you what I'm going to go buy a confederate flag and fly it right under to my American flag, hell maybe I'll put it on top. There's a huge confederate flag flying over a battle field a few miles from my house. Confederate memorials are everywhere around here, and none of them are going anywhere.

The Supreme Court in the Dred Scott decision disagrees with your interpretation. So much so that it required a civil war and 2 amendments that were never constitutionally ratified to change it.

That happened like 100+ years ago and yes, I do not care as it turned out for the better. Now we need to put the Confederates in a museum like Obama said. Time to move on from that chapter of our history. Now all it does is represent bigotry, racism, and hate.

.... Well slavery happened even further back than that. So shouldn't we just move on?

And you can't support the ability of the government to do that when you agree with it and then get your panties in a wad when the government comes back and denies your right to free speech. They declare that free speech is dangerous and it causes more harm than good. So now you're not allowed to speak out against the government.

    Too bad you support it.

Naw, you're speaking crazy talk. Fight is over with, the Union and freedom won. The racist Confederates rightly loss. Now it's time to put that chapter to bed. If people want to display their racism as a private citizen that is fine, but it should not be supported by any federal or state governments on public land. It is a symbol of hate. The kind of message that people who shoot innocent old ladies in a Church use to promote their hatred and allegiance to white supremacy.

What the hell's that got to do with the Constitution?

Really? You think it took 13A and 14A to empower congress to prohibit slavery in the territories and refuse statehood to territories inclined towards slavery?

    Really?

Yeah they lost to the Union racists. A flag is not going to change the minds of anyone, it's just a scapegoat at this point.

Yep, put the confederate flag in a museum and viola, no more bigotry, racism or hate. We will all love each other. All of societies ills cured with the move of a flag into a museum.

It would be a start and an official stance on the flag and what it represents. Take it down!

Yes and the supreme court agreed.

And the reason it's relevant is because the supreme court is the ONLY body which has the power to declare actions taken as being unconstitutional.

They declared it unconstitutional and the federal government simply ignored them. Further they continued to refuse to send all of the slaves back south which is, again, unconstitutional.

Your continual parroting of the same line over and over again doesn't help your position. Especially when you ignore every point made to you because you're incapable of refuting it.

That is true, one make make any symbol into anything one wants to make it. But doing away with a symbol is not going to change what is one's heart. I am surprised at the number of people who think symbols or the lack of them solves a very deeply rooted problem in our society.

Life is so simple to them, if one flies a confederate flag, he is racist. If one does not fly a confederate flag, then he is no racist. Somehow that makes little sense to me. But I am an old southern boy from Georgia and I have the stars and bars on the wall of my living room, I must be a racist. There is no way around it.

That flag belonged to my grandpa who carried it to France during WWI, my dad had it in WWII on Okinawa, I had it in both Vietnam and Laos. What that flag represents is a family that fought for your right to call us racist. I am proud of that flag and where she has been, it is not coming down regardless of what anyone thinks.

No one has said it would solve the problem. That's your guys fallacious attempt to protect the flag. It would be a positive step in the right direction and an admittance by the country of the hatred and racism it represents. But please stop making up lies about our argument! Thanks

So if I take my flag down, racism ends. Can you guarantee that? Why is everyone so fixated on symbols and not root causes? I think one needs to dig deep into our society to find what are the root causes. But this notion of putting a flag in a museum will cure those ills is, well you can fill in the blank. This is like someone dying of cancer and the treatment is putting a bandaide over a mosquito bite. Symbolism at its best along with the fear what one might find as the cause or causes.

    - - - Updated - - -

I will take the flag down and fly it high until sundown in your honor.

You're making stuff up again. This would be another positive step in the right direction and a symbolic change to the countries stance on hatred and bigotry. Does not mean racism will stop.

That flag only represents what a person wants it to represent. It is like any symbol anywhere at anytime. All of this makes me wonder if anyone is interested in finding a solution to the root causes or just in symbolism. What the flag means to me is much more precious than what you think it means as a symbol to you.

Too bad you have no idea why you believe that.

Still looking for a reason to give a damn.

Which is of no constitutional moment whatsoever when the declaration in question is clearly fraudulent.

What's missing is a reason to believe such defiance was constitutionally problematic in this case.

It doesn't? Glory be and caffeine free. Well bless your soul. you mean taking the flag down will not solve the problem? I am humbled. But the attack on symbols will continue regardless. There is just way too much hate in a lot of peoples hearts. Too much stereotyping based on symbols and looks.

The problem is me taking my flag down may make you feel better and feel like you accomplished some big huge thing. But in the grand scheme of things, the problem will remain, untouched.

Look, everyone knows the flag represents a horrible time from our past. And during that time, that flag stood for keeping hundreds of thousands in bondage. That flag waved over the heads of people who never saw freedom in their life. It just sends a negative signal, that if given the power, some folks would repeat that history, all over again. How do I know that. Because I've lived around that kind all my life. And the confederate flag is just the thing for some, which keeps those sentiments alive.

There were six Confederate flags --
That Battle Flag was Beauregard's baby -- and the 13 stars represent the Confederate states --

"After lengthy consideration was given to various designs, Johnston and Quartermaster General William L. Cabell met with Beauregard at his headquarters in Virginia on September 1861 to finalize the design of the new battle flag. Johnston proposed a flag in the shape of an ellipse with a red field and a blue saltier (a diagonal cross, often called a St. Andrew's cross) containing a white star for each Confederate state.

Congressman Miles found Beauregard's color combination to be contrary to the laws of heraldry and suggested a blue saltier, with white stars, on a field of red. Deferring to Miles' knowledge of heraldry, Beauregard accepted his modifications and included them in his final proposal to Johnston and Cabell.[SUP]8[/SUP]"

and it represents those who fought in the name of White Supremacy, no matter which ways from Sunday you wish to twist it.

Sedition isn't an act of treason(technically speaking). Were the Colonists committing treason against Britain for revolting? No, they exercised their right to Self-Determination. Are we saying that same right applies for some, but not all? That may be what Lincoln said, but its hypocritical and by no means is honest.

Why not state the truth? The South was viewed as Northern Territory and therefore, the North wanted to own the South. No different than any other world power. And the North won, and the rest is history.

    Millions.

Nearly four million. The entire southern population was (including those slaves) a bit over 9 million.

Some slave states were majority slave population. Yes, more slaves than free.
