    Was hoping for a 6-3 decision, but a simple majority will do. Congratulations America from the UK!!! We're just taking our last marriage equality hold out to court (Northern Ireland).

    Legal gay marriage in all fifty states!!

    Its a good day to be an american.

    Equality has been a long march over the decades. I have to admit I was skeptical of seeing it even in my life time as a near millennial. But it exploded over the last decade. So much progress. So many victories. But this one...this one is the one that counts. This one is the big one. So overjoyed. So happy. I can barely explain this feeling.

    Alabama (I think) was trying to pass a law that ONLY church marriages would be considered legal by the State.

    The problem they found was that

    1. It's un-Constitutional.

    2. All it would take is ONE church in Alabama to offer marriages to gay couples and the law would be rendered totally toothless....

    unless the State stepped in and declared that church "not a real church"...which means the Right attacking their own claim to "religious liberty."

    So the SCOTUS has order our society and species to encourage and support and sanction homosexuality.

    To what benefit as with heterosexuality? And now that marriage is a fundimental individual liberty which government cannot restrict what now?

    Rights don't have to have a 'benefit' to the majority, that's not the point. However this ruling CLEARLY benefits same sex couples and their children by offering them the stability that comes with a legally-recognised status.
