In a rational world, the school and the police should be in jail, not the kid

Unless you live under a rock, you know the story of the Texas kid who brought a homemade clock to school

Despite being aware that this device was a clock, having diligently questioning the kid and his maintaining that it was a clock, despite his science teacher finding that it was a clock, it appeared to be a clock, a clock is not a prohibited item (many people wear them on their wrists and there are typically clocks on the wall of every classroom) and this kid is apparently an engineering student and has been learning about digital technology — you know, the bits and pieces that go into a clock — the school decided that his clock was “dangerous” and in fact might be a bomb so they both suspended him and reported to the cops that he had brought a possible bomb on campus.

    But wait…

They didn’t evacuate the school (as you would if you thought someone had a bomb; after all, if you think it’s a bomb you don’t want innocent people to get blown up and die, right?)

They didn’t take the suspected bomb away from the student (so he couldn’t set off said suspected “bomb.”)

They didn’t call the bomb squad (like, for instance, you would if you thought there was a bomb so it could be defused.)

They did put both him and the device in an office (which isn’t what you’d do if you thought it was a bomb.)

Then they waited with him for the cops to show up (which of course, you’d do if you think you’re about to be blown up.)

    Riiiiiiight.

From where I sit and the known facts of this incident it appears the ISD made what appears to be a knowing false report of a felony criminal act (claiming that they suspected the kid had a bomb), they caused him to be arrested, they suspended him for possessing a non-dangerous and non-banned item and then they sent home a letter ducking all of this instead of taking responsibility for their false report and apologizing.

Let’s be clear: It is against the law to make a false police report. It is also against the law to subject someone to arrest when you know, or have reason to know, that the alleged “crime” you accused them of never occurred.

Therefore, since the people who made that report had every reason to believe that the item the kid possessed was in fact a clock and not a bomb, such is evident from their actions, and yet they caused him to be arrested without cause (and incidentally, the cops refused to charge him as they had no reason to do so) I want to know why everyone involved in the report within that school is not right now under arrest for false imprisonment (of the kid) and filing a false police report.

The claim of the police is that they didn't know what it was, so be on the safe side the arrested the student. So it's official. The Irving police department absolutely does not think there is a need for probable cause before making an arrest.

Under their theory, they could arrest anyone for suspicion of burglary because they don't know the person didn't commit a burglary.

Yes, that is just about the way an unsupervised bureaucracy malfunctions. Take that same malfunction into all areas of government and you will find similar performance.

This is what happens when the public is disconnected, or disconnects from government in all ways except paying for it. It's not that the public does not want to be involved, it's that being involved is only on the terms of the default, dysfunctional structure that demands control.

That demand is based in a similar logic as your final conclusion in this particular instance, but it is instead based in a fear of not having control.

That basis was very likely the reason for disconnecting the people from the system of government by disconnecting the people from each other or their capacity to be unified adequately to control government.

It may be an improvement because in the past, when these conditions we're present, the authority in charge simply burned the questionable individual at stake.

I think the school was crazy to report the issue. I have no proof it was related to his ethnicity, but I have suspicions that I wont focus on.
The police, on the other hand, need to follow up reports in an unbiased manner. I'm unclear if they can make a judgement call; there may be nobody in the responding force who could "not prove" that it wasn't for a bomb after a report had been made.

if the kid said it was a science project, the first thing the teacher shoudl of done is called the science teacher to confirm

would of stopped this from getting so far out of hand

It's called zero tolerance Not I am Muslim and their picking on me. The clock was in a brief case, making it in the eyes of the zero tolerance crowd that currently dominates our public schools appear to be a fake bomb. In an age in which five year olds are sent home from school for pointing their fingers and saying bang bang this is just one more item in the long litany of zero tolerance insanities that have been inflicted on our society by leftist dillweeds and assorted other knuckleheads that are bound and determined to save us form ourselves.

By the way don't blame the cops for doing what they were instructed to do. Blame the jackasses that created this bizarre set of instructions.

The fact remains that the cops knew the device was not a bomb. They knew for a fact it was a clock as did the school. Therefore it was the cops and the school who committed a crime in that they violated the civil rights of the student knowing full well the student had done nothing wrong. This kid has a multi million dollar law suit against both the school and the police that are going to have top notch attorneys chomping at the bit to get a piece of. The stupidity of the so called authorities in this situation is apocalyptic.

Ummm, if you had read the story.... the science teacher was the first person the kid showed the clock to and he confirmed it was a clock. That did not stop the stupidity from reaching critical mass.

The science teacher told the kid he probably shouldn't show it to anyone else. Why do you think that was? And again it isn't the cops fault that fake bombs as well as real ones are illegal.

And most of you will be the first ones blaming the school and police once a kid does blow up his school building. Much better to hurt some feelings then to be picking up pieces of children off the playground.

What if this had actually been a bomb and they had dismissed their concerns because he said it was a clock? We'd be sitting here right now saying that they were idiots for trusting the terrorist.

A "suitcase" clock brought to school in 2015. (When Jihadists have been know to use children and women to ply their nefarious trade)

And yet the thread title: " In a rational world, the school and the police should be in jail, not the kid "

Rational as defined by whom: Charlie Manson?

It was not a fake bomb. It was a clock. The science teacher obviously realized he works with a bunch of idiots who would jump to the wrong conclusion for the wrong reason. The fact remains that everyone knew the clock was not a bomb, they knew it was not a fake bomb, they knew no one with more than a single digit IQ thought it was a bomb. The kid did nothing wrong. You can label any clock as a fake bomb if you are an idiot, but that does not make it so. This is just another stupid decisions by a bunch of government bureaucratic moron who know as little about the law as they apparently know about science and electronics. Its OK though because the stupid people of Texas will now be paying for the kids college education by way of the false arrest lawsuit that the idiot government employees have now made a certainty.

A suitcase clock? Who's ass do you pull this crap out of? The media has definitely done a amazing job of brain washing the half wits who are so afraid of their own shadows they are willing to get on their knees and kiss the boots of the police state just to indulge themselves in the fantasy that the incompetent idiots in government can protect them from the Muslim boogeyman. This would be hilarious if it were not so completely pathetic.

    Better safe than sorry.

The people of Texas are far from stupid.

    At least the legal ones.

Again dude had he oused in a clock casing instead of a BRIEFCASE there would have been no problem. If the kid is as smart as he appears to be he doesn't need a lawsuit to get his college paid for he'll like be a national merit scholar with a full boat scholarshi to the university of his choice.

Obviously. Would HAVE is correct. Would OF is nonsense. Please find out what words mean, and how they fit in sentences before you use them.
