This one is especially interesting for me, because I've been speculating for a good while now that Julian Castro would be on a short-list for VP. Reasons for this after the link...

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/15/us-usa-electon-clinton-idUSKCN0S92Q820151015

From the article:

Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton won the backing of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro on Thursday and said she would seriously consider making the rising Hispanic leader her running mate if she wins her party's nomination.
First, Castro was the keynote speaker to the DNC in 2012, where President Obama was re-nominated. And there is, I would say, not a steep tradition, but rather, a "sometimes" pattern of the DNC keynoter ending up on the presidential ticket four years later: Bill Clinton was Mike Dukakis' keynoter at the DNC in 1988. Barack Obama was John Kerry's keynoter at the DNC in 2004. Alben Barkley was the DNC keynoter in both 1932 and 1936, went on to be the VP on Truman's ticket in 1948.

On the Republican side, Warren Harding was the 1916 keynoter for Charles Hughes. He went on to win the Presidency in 1920 with the largest percent-margin of all time. So, it's less than a tradition, but somewhat of a pattern. And the list of keynoters is a veritable list of "they also rans" for the nomination of one party or the other.

Now, why do I think this information about Castro is important? Well, were he to get the nod (this is assuming that Hillary gets the nomination, which I am pretty sure she will), then he would be the first Latino on a presidential ticket ever, one with an impeccable record as Mayor and also as a cabinet member in the Obama administration. And with the Latino vote as the "sleeping giant" out there, with a guy like him on a presidential ticket, the chances that US- American Latino voter turnout would dramatically rise is pretty high. It would also rise were a candidate like Marco Rubio be on the GOP ticket as well.

And it's not surprise to me that Clinton picked San Antonio, TX, to make this statement.

So, I created this thread because the information is timely and it could be a big piece of news for the Democratic Party.

Feel free to discuss.

mertex - you were at the San Antonio rally, right?

How was it?

Makes sense.. Both his parents were activist.. Never married. He admits him and his brother got into Stamford because of AA and he is a LGBT supporter..

Interesting. Do you think it's bad or immoral or terrible that Julian Castro's parents did not marry? Are his parents the theme of this thread? I am confused as to why this appears to be an important point to you. Hmmm.. Also, I researched, and I don't think that Sec. Castro ever lived in "Stamford", which is a city in Connecticut. But he did got to Stanford University, if that is what you meant. Did you maybe mean "Stanford"?

I've been thinking of him as her running mate for awhile also. Him or his brother since I can't remember who's who.

Julian Castro is a brilliant and pragmatic choice for Vice President. A Clinton/Castro ticket is a dream ticket come true. Yes, the Latino vote is going to be very crucial during the 2016 election. Also, Julian is only 41, so, he will attract the Millennial vote, too. It's a win-win situation.

Seems like they know they came off as the Whites only club, so she wants people to see diversity in her maybe "considering" a hispanic. That'll get them back on track.

"Hey all, I know the Republicans appeared to be more diverse...but wait.. Im considering...."

Get that on the airwaves pronto!

I like Sanders and Clinton. If Clinton wins, it would be nice to see Sanders as VP; if Sanders wins, it would be nice to see Clinton as VP.

Biden may stir things up, though. Don't count him out.

Neither of them would help the other as VP. Castro could.

I really do think that when I created this thread, it was about Julian Castro, and not about his mother.

Interesting.....

Hmmmm, interesting.

So, Julian Castro is his mother and somehow a LaRaza, or what??

And btw, are you aware that there are TWO groups with the name LaRaza?

One is a gang, the other is a political action group.

I can see them arguing a lot -- in a good way. A VP shouldn't be a yes man. The VP should be a competent adviser, and both Sanders and Clinton seem ideal for an advisory role with their knowledge and willingness to voice their opinion.

I hear it's pretty difficult to get into Stamford, especially during five o'clock traffic. LOL! It's a beautiful city once you're in.

I think Castro would be a smart choice.

That's rarely how vps are chosen. They want someone who can help them win a state or demographic

Actually, Rubio and Fiorina is the dream ticket and the Hispanics will love to see the first Latino president, along with the first female vice president. I'm sure they will have your vote since race matters so much to you

Funny, I didn't see Alucard write that race matters so much to him. Hmmmm.
And this thread is not about alucard to begin with.

I do agree with you that a Rubio ticket could be a very strong GOP ticket. Not so sure about Fiorina, though.

But it's true and also a statistical fact. The Latino vote WILL be a critical factor in 2016. Stating the obvious does not mean that race means so much to a person.
Stating that the sky will be blue on a sunny day doesn't mean that I am obsessed with blue skies.
