Ryan just let BO peep know.....there will be no more of going behind closed doors, to cut a deal. Again they raised the debt ceiling. Giving BO peep his Military cuts and what he wanted. More money to spend. What say ye? Rep. Paul Ryan blasted Speaker John Boehner, Senate leadership and the White House for cutting a budget deal behind closed doors, saying the "process stinks." "This is not the way to do the people's business," the Wisconsin Republican said. "And under new management we are not going to do the people's business this way. We are up against a deadline - that's unfortunate. But going forward we can't do the people's business. As a conference we should've been meeting months ago to discuss these things to have a unified strategy going forward.".....snip~ http://www.politico.com/story/2015/...boehner-senate-white-house-budget-deal-215182
Defense spending caps raised... Pentagon Wins in Budget Deal with Higher Defense Spending Caps Oct 27, 2015 | The White House and Congress late Monday agreed to a budget deal that would provide financial relief to the Defense Department over two years by increasing defense spending caps.
Do you really think BO peep wanted give more spending to the Pentagon Walt? While using the fact he rejected it since they wouldn't close Gitmo. The rest of his explanation after that, is BS.
The United States already spends as much as the next nine highest spending countries combined. What really needs to be discussed is why America gets such mediocre results for it's massive military expenditures.
And? None of those Countries are using their Military all over the globe, helping others in disasters. We use AirCraft Carriers......like a floating city. Producing drinkable water and medical assistance. Able to get into areas others can't nor can make it in time, for less loss of life and less injured. Which is not to say that there isn't some things with the Military and IC that can be cut.
Mornin CJ. Not at all.....it does cost money to save others. Which doesn't even count those coming to the rescue who get injured or there is loss of life, while saving others. Each carrier must be protected at all times. Each deploys planes and helicopters. All of it adds up to operate in and around disasters. Including all radar tracking and searching for life. Which again.....none of those other countries can do the same.
So what percentage of our total military spending do you think actually goes toward helping during natural disasters? My guess is probably less than 5% at best.
Its not just Natural disasters......there is shipping, and other man made disasters or problems. Then there is security for the nation and our assets. Security for others. Takes quite bit to keep 11 carrier Fleets and or ships out on.....shall we say the 7 seas. Remember now, only good tasting tuna gets to be Starkist. Again, that's not to say that there aren't things that could be cut or reduced with the Military.
So why do you think America spends as much on defense as the next nine highest spending countries combined. For certain it isn't our charitable military activities. And your example of aircraft carriers is interesting. Is there really any rational reason we keep building and maintaining these floating dinosaurs.
Who delivers aid for weeks on end? Besides us? One reason is due to our assets all over the globe. In which we still cannot cover all we have. But we can get there quicker than any other countries. Having more to protect does increase our costs. Well we have built smaller carrier type ships. Again, they are like a floating city. Albeit on water. I already mentioned about producing drinkable water and the medical. They also can get electrical power to areas that have none. Communications up and going. Having the ability to take control of the skies from a carrier. Is an advantage other countries just don't have. We can't get Right to anything from our own shores. Nor can anyone else. Until we can put a ship in the Air and leave it there, able to launch aircraft from it. Have an actual floating city in the Sky. The next best option are floating cities on the Seas.
Yes it is.....but then planes can't carry as much as ships. Nor can they just fly from our shores to wherever. But they can from carriers, for whatever region of the planet they are covering.
I may be wrong but I don't think the big cargo planes can take off and land from an aircraft carrier. And we do have bases all over the world.
That doesn't mean aid in communications forms and CPS can't be sent by Helicopters. Or med units. All expensive tech too.
Not at all, and I did it with using some of the basics that many outside of the Military don't think of.....when it concerns the Military. Rand Paul tried using the argument about the next 9 or 10 countries. It didn't work out for him to much either.
Certainly the fastest way to deliver all that necessary technology in the event of a disaster is a floating dinasaur with a top speed of forty miles an hour. You are kidding, right?
Where are they going to deliver it from? Looks like Right now that is the reality of the situation. Until there is another way. That's all there is.
