You make claims with no facts in evidence. Its is a child argument. Present your evidence or your claims are worthless. I could easily claim Admiral Nimitz told me personally that the bomb was unneeded. My claim would be as good as yours. LOL

What specific claim of mine are you asking for evidence of?

(It might be useful to cite my exact words, so I know just what claim you are asking about.)

"Each Fortress [B17] was loaded with ten 500-lb high-explosive bombs if its group was flying in the high or lead position or 16 250-lb incendiaries if in the low position..."

Quoted from The Battle of Hamburg, the firestorm raid, Martin Middlebrook, Cassell, London, 2002.

Over 120 B17 bombers were involved in this first USAAF raid on a German city on Sunday, July 25, 1943, all of which carried either HE or incendiary loads. Now please tell me that the USAAF "...didn't cause any firestorms in German cities" as you erroneously (yet again), claim.

The USAAF did not cause a single firestorm in any German city.

Every single firestorm that happened in a German city was caused, deliberately, by British bombers.

Your rhetoric is starting to sound pretty silly considering that you've not spotted a single error on my part.

Have you cited any evidence at all other than your opinion? No. Show me a statement by all the generals I showed you that said they were in favor of dropping the bomb during the war. I gave evidence for my statements.....you gave an unverified opinion

Probably at least 30% of Tokyo contained military targets. The rest of it was collateral damage. As you point out "pinpoint" accuracy was impossible.

It would also have been difficult to separate military from non-military because the Japanese, as the history has shown, were prepared to fight to the death.

Here are Winston Churchill's thoughts on the subject. http://www.nuclearfiles.org/menu/ke...shima-nagasaki/decision-opinion-churchill.htm

Japan was arming its women and children to attack any landing force. The A-bombs were barely enough to give the emperor grounds for ordering the surrender over the opposition of the military.

Well according to our military generals they were defeated and an invasion or the bomb was not going to be needed

Many of them opposed the bombing. They probably realized that conventional bombing could eventually produce the same result on the ground.

Do you actually bother to read the links you are provided with, or are you actually trolling? Not only I but several others have been at pains to point out your errors. I suggest you pick up a history book or two-perhaps those I have mentioned. Education is never a bad thing, and you are sorely in need of it! Read the following and learn something for a change; perhaps the mention of USAAF bombers being loaded with 40% incendiaries might give you a clue.

Right. Even after the first bombing they didn't quit. They also never realized they only had two. They expected more to be dropped. Some didn't quite fighting until the 1970's.

Hirohito finally chose the right course.

It depends on which one you quote. The leaders of Great Britain and the USA had more information available and they made the right decision..

Why are you guessing at history rather than reading some reliable sources?

And as I recall reviewing the history of the surrender years ago the Emperor, surprisingly, could not freely intrude into affairs of state. They apparently had some kind of protocol that required the high command to approach him first. The source suggested that Hirohito had been ready to surrender Japan after the Tokyo bombing but had to wait for an opening to order the surrender. It was a close thing. I do not have that cite handy. Will try to find it.

I have never read the details and background of the MacArthur and Eisenhower reactions to the bombings. And I can be rather lazy. I always hope someone else will do the research for me. ;-)

As I am sure you know - it can take a lot of time to get the whole story - even with the internet.

    The people were devastated
and here is some of the reaction from that time. Anyone who thinks the Japanese would have given up easily is a victim of anti American propaganda sites. They've certainly never heard this nonsense from the Japanese themselves. You may enjoy this. http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/20...g-impact-many-japanese-wars-end/#.V1sq1zVSTD1

It's worth reading if you enjoy history. Getting involved in a debate is also a good way to test your knowledge and challenge your opinions. It's a good idea to have some facts on hand though because there'll always be someone who challenges what you have to say. I think that's a good thing too, if you want to grow and develop as a person.

The raids to capture the Emperor, the surrender message recording, and the radio station are certainly not well known in America.

I am saving your sources. The Churchill url did not work for me - could you paste it again?

    - - - Updated - - -

As a result of this thread I wil have to do that. ;-)

Happily. http://www.nuclearfiles.org/menu/ke...shima-nagasaki/decision-opinion-churchill.htm If it doesn't work you might Google Churchill's response to Hiroshima.

The decision to drop the bomb was the wrong decision according to ALL the important military generals in the US as I have quoted them on this thread.

Note that facts are not opinion. I've offered facts.

And yes, I have provided cites to people who have asked for more information. I do not remember if it was in this thread. There have been several threads now.

Again, if there are any of my facts that you have a question about, feel free to ask. Remember to quote my actual comment so I know which fact you are asking me about.

    - - - Updated - - -

Posting facts that you dislike is hardly trolling.

Claiming that I've made an error when actually I am completely correct doesn't actually count as pointing out an error.

Says the guy who can't point out a single thing that I am wrong about.

Anyway, look, your shtick about hunting down imaginary errors is comical enough, but I think in the future if you offer a post that does nothing but talk about imaginary errors, I won't bother to respond to it.

I'll still address factual matters with you of course.

You again refuse to post any evidence. I asked you this directly

"Show me a statement by all the generals I showed you that said they were in favor of dropping the bomb during the war."

There it is clear as a bell and you are unable to provide any evidence for your claims. This is pointless. You have nothing. You have demonstrated that over and over

It really doesn't matter and their 'importance' is a matter of opinion. The only ones who matter are the real leaders and it as they who were in a position to make the decision and who eventually made the decision. Of course it was also the correct decision.

These Generals were not representing the people, were not elected by the people, did not have all the facts or understanding the actual leaders had, and were often involved in other areas of the war.

Why are you attaching so much importance to what some Generals say when it was Harry Truman and Winston Churchill who were really in charge?

No one knew more about the military capabilities of Japan than these generals. Certainly not Truman who was left in the dark by FDR while he was alive. These generals are the BEST source of what was going on at the time.
